Building a MASTERPIECE For MY Wife

  • This table is worth $6000 or more, but I'm giving it to my family. Is a glass river table better than epoxy? I'll show you how to build this live edge river dining table with glass inlay for my wife. I could sell this table easily for $6000, but I'm keeping this one. I made this dining table out of two cottonwood live edge slabs with a blue tinted glass inlay and a welded steel mid century modern style table base. I built this live edge glass river dining table for my wife to have in our formal dining room. This live edge glass river dining table was built over the course of 8 months.

    I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.

    This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

    The fist video of yours I’ve watched was the one where you made your wife the cheese board. Thought I was super sweet and turned out beautiful. Say this video next and love these kinds io in depth videos for this type of table. Then I freaked out when you mentioned OKC, because that’s where I live too. I love finding and supporting TH-camrs from Oklahoma. Keep up the good work!!

    I built my first computer desk for my daughter with 2 x 6’s but ordered the legs online. Pretty much the first thing I’ve built from scratch with wood it looks great and better still my daughter had tears when I took it down to her room and installed it. That was worth it’s weight in gold, now I see her using it everyday to draw on and do her school work for college. Nothing makes me happier than to see her using it everyday 👍👍👍 awesome table build and I agree 2020 was a stinker and 2021 wasn’t much better here’s a toast to 2022 being a good recovery for everyone!!!!!

    Saw the bark on the slabs and immediately went wait is someone finally using cottonwood?! Awesome I use that all the time as it is real common where I am in Montana. If you are looking at more of it be careful for thickness of the bark. The thicker it is the more "wind checked" the wood is. This causes a bunch of micro cracking weakening the wood and normally for how fast they grow that is why they come down within about 30ish years

    I would like to see this with a plate bridging the gap underneath and then the gap filled with varnished river stones under the glass. I'm not sure about seeng the
    metal support through the glass. But what an enjoyable video with the process of the glass cutting and bow tie fitting. Quite a stunning table.

    • @Martin-se3ij
      @Martin-se3ij 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikemcdonald4813 The glass would be tempered I guess. Another thought would be again a plate underneath then a ribbon of LED lights and then a layer of the broken glass you'd get from a car windscreen. It could look all sparkly and undulating if the light had some movement with it. Wish I had a workshop, I'm so jealous of this man.

    I just watched that from start to finish! I’m a fan of using the cottonwood slabs, because most people just consider that a “trash tree.” You were able to prove that the build quality has more to do with the treatment of the material, than simply using the most expensive wood. Then multiple materials were combined (soft wood, hard wood, glass, and metal) in such a cohesive design. Amazing work!

      Ok the bow ties is way to much of different color..but it still leaves a crack that's not filled plus at the ends of the table the glass just sits in a groove looks like it's little below the surface plus the ends the glass may be to sharp might cut someone if not tapered some

  • @kensmith5694

    You need to invest in a jack plane and a joiner plane. They are bigger than the block plane and the blade is angled for working along the grain. A block plane is designed for easy working on end grain. The joiner plane is a long thing that makes it much easier to make wood very straight
