[MKWii] Countdown Online Races w/ Commentary (New Game Mode)

- In this commentary, I talk about how "Countdown" (the new game mode created by MrBean) works and how it's different from regular races! These are a lot of fun and a new, more aggressive way of playing MKW. In this video, I show 3 Nintendo tracks but you can also choose custom tracks while using this mode.
Custom servers will be used for CTGP Revolution when they are finished to replace Nintendo's dying wifi servers but I'm not exactly sure when that'll be. Hopefully soon!

9:23 The reason I say to use the bullet when you have like 1 second left because even though your time runs out, your bullet will still carry you positions until the results screen shows up so it's a really good strategy to use it right before you're out of time.

Nice video, Troy! Glad you're enjoying the mode. It's rather pleasing to see everything going so nicely, too, the service seems to be fairly popular. Here's hoping everyone else has a good time, too!
And, to think, you originally doubted anyone would find this enjoyable. It's so perfect for anyone who likes battle and racing, but can't stand MKWii's battle mode.

Hey Troy,
Just a few minutes ago, I was in a WiFi race. I saw this guy with around ~9400 VR, going by the name Sword. Can you confirm whether this was the actual guy? My name on the race was Kim. ;p

Once in a worldwide just racing, I raced against a fake sword from USA :/ I also caught him using Auto drift and that person did a horrible job making that Sword Mii
I've been trying to do Countdown Mode, but I can never find any opponents. At what time of day would I have the best chance of finding people?

Lovely races and commentary. :33 Bean's new mode is super fun but it gets really competitive! Always great to have new additions to the game though. Definitely try it out.

No Bowser Jr., but 7 Koopalings? How do you feel about that Troy?
It sucks. Diddy Kong or Bowser. Jr, (or even Birdo even though I hate her) aren't in the game but there are 7 Koopalings, 5 Babies, and 2, completely useless, retextured skins of the least used Mario Kart characters. What were they smoking?
Prefer the Koopalings over Bowser Jr. but then having eight of them will still be alright. Babies and pink gold peach are really useless alright..
I hate when they add new characters but remove old ones. Is it so hard to bring back all the old ones? It's not like you have to re-implement a tonne of fighting moves like in Super Smash Bros.

It's amazing that they managed to make an entire new game mode, especially since it originally ran on Nintendo's servers
I uploaded some CTGP races aswell with a 'Tom' in the room, but I doubt that was Sword.
Lol it's just like Mario kart 8's Battle mode! I can't believe Coin Runners isn't in mk8... I love Coin Runners. :/

I tried playing Countdown once. I went into the menu, waited about half an hour while doing other things, and got _one_ person to play with and played only two races. It's going to be terrible only having 5000 VR, especially after May 20th.
Also, this makes me wonder if VR modifiers are allowed in CTGPR.
SirLemons44 You can't do it inside the CTGP-R Channel itself, but if you modify the VR externally, I don't really mind. CTGP will automatically change it if you set it too high or low, though.

I feel so left out since my Wii and old DS could never connect to the internet :( This game mode looks like TONS of fun, but I can't play it. To think I will own a Wii and never have played a MK wii Custom Track or Wifi race, or SSBB Matches, or even not being able to connect my DS to get the the GTS in pokemon gen 4 and 5. I am REALLY hoping they might re-release classic wii games like this on the Wii U that run on their newer and better Wifi, which is the only one I can connect to...
Do you need CTGP to play this? Because I had CTGP until I sold my Wii....
Great video Troy! I was wondering, could you do a video describing your opinion on the new Mario Kart 8 Nitro Tracks? I think it would be very entertaining! However, no rush! You should enjoy Mario Kart Wii until it ends! Just a suggestion for a video :D

This reminds me of the battle mode in Mario Kart 8. In Mario Kart 8's Battle Mode, you have to go through race tracks that you actually race on (So no unique battle stages) and hit people for 1 to 5 minutes. The player with the most hits wins. Am still kind of disappointed that they didn't add Actual Battle Stages, am still fine with it.
countdown is something i rarely play. i never have good luck on this and when i get an axe.... still no good luck. have to rely on 1 second bullets. frontrunning: doesn't work. bagging: doesn't work. i rage like a madman when i play it

Troy, do you know that battle mode in Mario Kart 8 is countdown races, but without any of the items Bean thought of and the ones from MKWii
Well, sort of. MK8 Battle Mode's objective is to get points. And you drive on an actual MK8 racing track. But you will often see people driving backwards around the track and still winning. In countdown mode the points you earn lead to extra racing time, they're not just points, and going backwards is a bad idea normally.
