    This interview remains one of the greatest driver interviews ever...Robin showing all his experience with his questions & at his finest, Fred very relaxed & talkative with Robin, it is a wonderful piece of journalism...& a tenderloin gag sign-off also...! We love you forever Robin ♥️

    Not going to lie here. I'm an european F1 and Alonso fan that never followed Indy before but I'll just say, not only I'll follow Indy races from now on but I also just subscribed to this channel because of this old fella named Robin Miller. What a passionate and cheerful man!

    • @GregBrownsWorldORacing
      @GregBrownsWorldORacing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Youtubax Robin will remain cheerful until you ask him about NASCAR, then his carmudegon side appears. I love those rants also. Miller was with the Indianapolis Star back when they invented the printing press. BTW do you play a Tubax?

      Why others like him is because he's absolutely genuine. He wears his heart on his sleeve and his love for motorsport is deeper than the pacific. Also in my opinion his interviewing skills are in another league.

      Yeah, I guess I've been overrun in general w too much pregame and commercials over past 2yrs is gotten out of hand. Also, I agree he has knowledge and good interview skills. I think there was a few situations years ago where he way overstepped..I'll have to recall what it was, but it reminded me of that dickhead Ted on BBC going around trolling drivers&staff for attention

    I don't follow Indycar (F1 guy here) and I've never seen Robin Miller before. MAN, he's a gem. What a great interview.
    Really a refreshing change from the stiff, boilerplate bullshit we see in F1.

    • @709mash
      @709mash 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree (same background here). He seems genuinely interested in Fred's F1 perspective on IndyCar. Hopefully he will try again, even though he's back with Renault now. You know he wants that triple crown.

    Best pilot since Senna. When has Hamiltion ever drove an awful car and challenged for World Drivers Championship?? Only when Hamiltion has a car 1 sec clear of field can he win. Fernando drove the wheels of an awful Ferrari and still beat Hamiltion hands down

    • @tomsriver2838
      @tomsriver2838 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lol you had to bring Hamilton here hmm ? The only way to compare two drivers is when they are team mates! In 2007 Alonso, 2x world champion couldn't beat Hamilton the rookie !!!

    • @stewartgrindlay9760
      @stewartgrindlay9760 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Toms River he had to beat Hamiltion and McLaren. One man against everyone in his team. As I say where was he 2009-2013. Fernando took the challenge to an all dominate Red Bull team in an awful set of Ferraris.

    • @wizkid01
      @wizkid01 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Stewart Grindlay I agree with that, Hamiltons mclaren was way faster than alonso's ferrari in each of those years and in 2012 the mclaren was quicker than the all conquering red bull.. and yet Hamilton was nowhere.

    • @wannabKsi
      @wannabKsi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      wizkid01 I don’t know if you remember but Hamilton had about 3 retirements from the lead in 2012. You can also say he had the best car that year but don’t mention Canada where he wins the race and his teammate, a fellow world champion finishes something like 12th and is lapped. Alonso is a fantastic driver, you don’t need to hate on Hamilton to believe that.

    I was just waiting to hear Robin catch up with Alonso. I was wondering how Alonso would react to his style of interviewing since no one interviews with such emotion in Formula 1 or keeps churning out facts about history while asking questions. But it seems Alonso totally loved it, and everyone loves Robin. I guess someone should interview him one day.

  • @rodentcafeteria
    @rodentcafeteria 7 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    In spite of his amazing credentials, I don't think Alonso is taking racing at Indy for granted. He knows there's a lot for him to wrap his head around in a very short period of time. But he's up for the challenge. I wish him all the best.

    • @praveentitus7193
      @praveentitus7193 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I always was, and still am, disappointed that Alonso could only win two world titles though he deserved at least 2 more titles. It's also anguishing to see his younger rivals Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton wrap up multiple titles while Alonso languishes at the back of the field. I hope he wins more world titles in F1, but if he pulls this Indy 500 off, that would partly make up for the absence of those world titles - he'll become an all-time great by having statistics to back up his already well known talent...

    • @rodentcafeteria
      @rodentcafeteria 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Agreed. He definitely should have had two more titles under his belt by now. Alonso AND Montoya at this year's Indy! It's almost too good to be true.

My motorcycle helmets, since I started riding in the 70's, my helmet graphics have always been a homemade - Graham Hill replica, till this very day. ahh... the magic of trying something new... you can see it in Fernando's smile... jajaja... he just can't control his happiness... I really glad for him... even if he doesn't come 1st, 2nd or 3rd... just watching him return to that place, filled with adrenaline, uncertanty and exitement... that place when you challenge yourself for the first time... it's priceless...
    and who knows... he is a gentleman and won't say it... but seriously, it seems McLaren/Honda won't give him the support he needs on F1, and I really dont see Fernando going back to Ferrari, or hired in Mercedes or Red Bull... Toro Rosso? maybe it's time to change lanes in motorsport for him...
    anyhow... if he stays on F1 or changes to IndyCar I will continue to follow him...
    cheers!

      @alexthorne6996 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SabuPtolemy I feel bad for him. he must of been promised alot from McLaren. they probably said "the car will be good soon, give it time". he must be so fed up. knowing he drives the wheels of any car. and to leave Ferrari and see them on an upward curve. What bad luck

    • @larrysmith6797
      @larrysmith6797 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can you honestly feel bad for anybody making 30 million Euros per year in salary,not to mention all the outside income? So he's driven a crap car for the last three years. Give me a tissue to wipe away my tears. He is one of the best drivers on the planet and holds two F1 World Championships. Better pass me the whole box of tissues.

    • @alexthorne6996
      @alexthorne6996 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry Smith well, I can't really reply to that! that's a justified perspective, but you could say that about anyone who has been gifted with riches like most sport stars who have gone to the top of their game. you can say you dont give a damn about any of them. But if you looked at it in context he's a good f1 driver, in my opinion and he drives a crap car. But hey who cares about anyone who's well off. fuck them all aye?

    Great 'one of a kind' interview, Robin! I think FA will be an exciting addition, and I'm so glad he is allowed to spread his wings like this. Honda does not want to lose him, nor Maclaren. (and I can't believe what they pay him!)

I got to watch Rossi (who i met in Austin in 2013) take the win last year and now i get to see Alonso dip his feet in. Both sports have major issues to overcome in order to increase viewership and competitiveness, but at heart i just love motorsport and its great to see this crossover of worlds.

    • @BeanDip96_
      @BeanDip96_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He's definitely not wrong. The most elite road guys tend to love the ovals, while the most elite oval guys take a lot more time to develop their road racing skills. Nigel Mansell and Emerson Fittipaldi (as mentioned), JPM, Scott Dixon, etc. are all examples of genuine world class road racers who became very successful on the ovals.

    • @FPV-wi8fw
      @FPV-wi8fw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brandon Ryan did Alex Rossi do many ovals before his indy500 win?

    • @xtlm
      @xtlm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No offense to Rossi, but he got extremely lucky on a fuel strategy.
      JPM couldn't hang with the NASCAR boys at oval racing but I know that's a completely different beast.
      But it was a weird statement, becasue while there are less examples for Oval -> Road they can be found.
      The elite of the elite drivers can usually drive anything.
      I think he just said it to try and boost Alonso's confidence

    • @Shark2497
      @Shark2497 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rossi wasn't going to win on flat out pace, but if I remember correctly he was running around tenth on pace earlier on in the race. Also, he looked as if he could win Pocono later in the year.
      As far as JPM and NASCAR, I don't think there's anyway to compare to two. NASCAR is racing big bulky cars and IndyCar and F1 are racing specifically designed sleek racing machines.

    Everything is so sanitized in F1 now, including interviews and press conferences. Its refreshing to see Fernando act like a human being again and... smile. It's has to be a bit of a culture shock jumping into a team that has an annual budget of what Mclaren spends in one race weekend. I hope he loves it and decides to stay.

  • @andis9076
    @andis9076 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Main difference between F1 and Indy500 (beside the car) is wheel to wheel racing. F1 driver only has one close racing, at the start, that's it. After that is all lonely or 1:1 . Indy500 is crowded with 3-4 line trying into a corner and only 3 cars fit in. It's like being squeezed in the middle at very high-speed corner and see who will give up the place. It's a nerve-wrecking. The risk of death and serious injury/parralize is much higher in Indy500 than F1. The pit stops also a big difference. It's big chaos in Indy500.

    Alonso can sometimes be categorized as a primadona and a whiner but he has really shown a personal side in ALL the Indy 500 interviews he's done. He's in WAY better spirits under this subject than on just how bad Honda pooped the F1 Bed. I follow F1 very closely and 20 years ago was a die-hard Cart fan. I'm going to be glued to the TV for this Indy. I think he has a better chance than most of winning. In F1 circles he's still in the Top 3 for driving talent. Anyone that can get that Pig of a McLaren into Q2 has to be.

    • @paulomarinho1963
      @paulomarinho1963 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JASON D
      With Fernando's luck, I'm guessing that McLaren will dominate the weekend, first line on the grid with pole and victory for Button (in his car), second for Bottas (in the car he wanted to grab... I mean... drive this year) and Vettel third (in the car he could be driving, but rejected).
      And Vandoorne, having been involved in a first lap incident and crossed the line dead last, will put McLaren's overwhelming dominance to good use in a impressive recovery to finish fourth.
      Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, Alonso's engine will die, in a puff of smoke, on the way to the grid.
      Then McLaren will be back to "normality" for the remaining of the season and will not score any points again.
      Best driver in F1 for more than one decade and one of the greatest ever, 3 titles lost by a aggregate of 8 points and only 2 crowns to show after 15 years of F1, the only other case that I can remember of such contrast between talent and results, it is Sir Stirling Moss, who should be, at least, triple champion and doesn't have any title with his name on it.

    • @jasond696
      @jasond696 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      HAHAHA I agree. There are too many other factors involved to say one driver is the best but he is defiantly in the top 3. Its really hard to watch such a great talent wasting away at McLaren. But come on two McLarens finishing a race, that is really a stretch. I know it would be considered a demotion but I would rather they let him stay in the Indy series for the rest of the season. At least then his talent wouldn't be going to waste. But like you said with his luck McLaren would then all of a sudden be on top.

    Is Robin not on any networks anymore?? I really like him because he's a straight shooter. I know it gets him in trouble sometimes. Maybe that's why he's not on a network. He does a great Gridwalk too. Fernando seems totally excited. He's in such a mess at McLaren. So it's nice to see him energized. Go Fernando!

      Ah, okay - good. But they never do the 500 - usually ABC. Unless, they have the rights now?

      unfortunately no. We are stuck with ABC. NBCSN does broadcast Carb Day the Friday of the 500 weekend.

      Copy that - no Robin. Well, I'll be watching if I'm not going. Should be interesting.

    I might acc start watching Indy Car now. Seems kinda exciting and they have a lot of crashes. Unlike F1 where pretty much every third race is boring af.

    Indy is kind of a lotery. Alonso could do much better on a road course.

    The only thing about indy cars that interests me is Robin Miller. He's a great guy with a lot of knowledge about racing in days gone by. The glory days.
