    Claudio, undoubtedly one of your best videos and also shows your deep love for each of the patches that you showed of this fantastic keyboard. Your face of happiness! I understand you perfectly because I had the D-50 many years ago. Now listening to it again, all that magic and melancholy came back for those great sounds designed by Eric Persing. Damn! @@SimonPiano42 One's too many because of the time you spend on the things, either sound designing, maintaining or repairing them in the case of some vintage synths. And because you only need one to act as the gateway drug for the next 40 (you're at 3, you'll get there!!!!) 🙂

    The sound of this synthesizer is highly appreciated in Chile and Latin America because many cumbia bands used it, especially the sound of the minute 9:54 I recommend listening to "mujeres y cerveza" from the band "alegria" there the D50 is used and I think the korgM1 too

    Years ago, my bargain hunting uncle was at a goodwill and saw them unload a keyboard and asked how much he could buy it for, they said 20 US dollars. He gets home, I see it and to my surprise I see he had brought home a Roland D-50 with no power cord. I could not believe my eyes, I always had wanted a synth. We quickly adapted a plug and turned it on, and it was blank, no sounds, no presets. By this time, I was savvy enough to know about MIDI and with quick research found out that I could load sounds via SysEx. We still have it to this day.

      "Shout" was actually first released as a single on November 23rd, 1984 and was then released as the opening track to Tears for Fears multi-platinum album _Songs from the Big Chair_ on February 25th, 1985. So it's originally from 1984, but didn't become well known until 1985.

    Had one of these since it came out in 1987.....if I'm being critical yes it's a little noisy and DSP effects have come a long way but at the end of the day wow can it sound good. It also helps to have someone go through all these sounds who can play! Still some of the best organ sounds out there and if you learn to program it from scratch it's still hugely capable and rewarding.

    15:00 --> that is actually a Wavestation-type of sound,
    but then three years before it's release. . .
    Never knew that was in there 🙂
    What I did know, was that Eric Persing used to play the D-50
    a year before its release on all kinds of gigs.
    .
    I remember a friend of mine had one and we made samples of it
    that we used in the AKAI S612 and later the Roland S10.
    Loved those sounds, especially the brass.

    D-50 is the catalyst of digital musicality. The music you'd might originally hear mellow, but when you play it on the D-50, the music would sound much better. If I really had this, I'd either rather video myself playing Genshin Impact OST on that synth or use it to make a stellar intro for a song. Love this.

      In their music video "Head over Heels" a Roland Jupiter-8 appears with keyboard player Ian Stanley looking stupidly at the librarian. In that era they used to show more of the band's instruments compared to today's videos. Id say as a wild guess in current music vids the only thing you'll see is a DJ with Pioneer setups, not many instruments, or less so than yesteryear.

    My mind is literally blown right now. I discovered a sound that was in the score for the film The 'Burbs with Tom Hanks completely by chance. I loaded New Man Studios soundbank and went to the patch Rhythm Synth Bass and, if you isolate two of the partials, you get the sound of the recurring spooky motif that plays throughout the film. It makes sense because the D-50 was still brand new in 1989 when this movie was filmed. And it was scored by Jerry Goldsmith to boot!

    If you want these sounds, there are a lot of options. Of course, you can get a vintage D-50 or D-550. You can also get a used D-05 Boutique. Personally, I have a V-Synth XT, which can boot into a perfect D-50 emulation. The System 8 also has a D-50 emulation. And finally, the Roland Cloud has a nearly perfect D-50 softsynth emulation. Many of these sounds are also in Zenology Pro, so can run as a VST from there. And the new Fantom and other Zen-core instruments get these sounds too. Finally, the Integra-7 has some D-50 patches.
    Incidentally, the "Horn Section" sound at 8:17 was used in Paula Abdul's "Straight Up".
