Jesus I learnt half of this on guitar tabs but my hands moving way more. I could do most of it with keeping the hand in the same place! Of course the rifts are working off the chords. Thank you for giving me a mind blow moment
@@joshsendelbach2077 You're welcome! Still figuring out how to record this stuff, I have no idea how to edit anything so I have to do them all in one take.... Lol. But yeah man thank you for watching! And for the REquest! I just put up a lesson of Four Fingered Fisherman I'm super happy with. About to upload a shorter video of the strumming pattern for it becasue I don't think I did that very well in the video
Absolutely love that one. Thank you for the love!! I will try to get to that one! I've wanted to learn it before. I'll start making vids gain soon though!!
I love this tutorial thanks! But if you can help how do you get your amp to have like the echoy effect. I know how to play it, but mine doesn’t sound as good as yours
It’s a delay effect. You can get it using a delay pedal (which is what I’m using in the video). Echo would work too, pretty similar. You can also plug into a computer via an audio interface and then use a DAW like GarageBand or something and they have built in effects
Hey Ultima, I think I was using a boss blues driver (overdrive) pedal and just like you said, delay and just a touch of reverb. Any overdrive pedal will really work, just set the gain so that when you play hard, it is distorted, but when you play softly it is clean.
Am I retarded? I've been playing for a year and I can't follow along with these tutorials. Seems like every else gets it but I just can't keep up :/ There's parts (like at 4:12-4:30) where you just play a riff without showing what your playing and I think most people can follow along; but I can't track your right and left hand that fast...It's really frustrating because most tutorials on youtube are like this.
It's a bit tough to follow because Issacs guitar playing is very non traditional. You kind of have to go off the chords and listen for what to do in the song. You'll get the hang of it trust me I've been playing for less than a year and am starting to pick up on it rn just keep practicing and use your ears.
I'm realizing how bad I still am at guitar with this video. I'm completely lost with what you're doing after the bend and can't make sense of it even with the tab. Everyone else in the comments are doing great so I know it's not your explanation (which are always great). Just still not good enough to be able to figure it out and not have my hand held the whole time
It takes a lot of practice! What bend are you talking about? Is there a specific time stamp? If you point it out to me I can try to explain it further because I don't mind doing that at all. You can also just leave the bend out. The more important thing is getting your ring, middle, and pointer fingers comfortable resting in their positions on the 9th, 8th, and 7th frets. That diagonal shape
If you mean the bend at the very beginning, you can definitely leave it out. I explain it more in depth at like 2:38 in the video, but I usually don't even play it, I just did for this video and do when I feel like it. But yes, work on the rhythm (slowly) and build up speed but always go slow. I still try to learn things too fast constantly and have to make myself move my fingers 1/2 speed.
@@siddthekid5046 Sorry man. What I meant was just the basic chords/notes your picking after the bend. I'm not having issues with the bend, I'm just having issues finding out what exactly you're playing after that bend. I'm not musically inclined so it usually takes a bit for me to pick things up. Your video is great as usual, I just take longer to figure things out. And yeah, playing slow helps so much. Sometimes I try and play things fast and realize that if I just spend a few days playing it slow, that I "accidentally" can play it much better when playing faster.
@@dylanc2174 my ring and middle fingers are not moving from the 9th or 8th frets. Your pointer finger moves from them 7th fret on the A string to the 7th fret on the low E. Then you just alternate it back to the 7th on the A. And back to the E. Let me know if that helps! You're close and it will just click
I feel it was more the picking order I was having issues with but I'll figure it out. I haven't touched my guitar in a few days so haven't played with it again but will tonight
I'm starting to notice how simple yet awesome a lot of their songs are lol. Great vid.
They are! Thanks, Andon
Thank you man. My favorite Modest Mouse song.
These lessons are absolute gold! Seriously can't emphasize this enough, thank you man :)
Glad you like them! Thanks, Eric! What's been your favorite one?
Wow you killed that by far my fav instrumental by them

Can you do a tutorial for school bus by the band nouns?
Is this stardard tuning?
Yep! EADGBe

Sure, just standard tuning so EADGBe

I know nothing abt guitars I listened to modest mouse whole life and am tryna play guitar what kind of guitar is that
This is just a “Stratocaster style” guitar
what’s the picking pattern :/?
Why does this sound like nineteen by lil peep
Because Peep sampled the Modest Mouse song "Broke" :)

Still playing?! How's the guitar journey
What pedals are you using?
@@stinsoncal8393 pretty sure it was just a delay into an overdrive pedal
@@siddthekid5046 What brand of delay pedal? I have a Boss Delay, and I can't get the MM sound. I'm trying to figure what Isaac uses. Thanks!
@ can be any delay really, the boss delay should work great. I think Isaac used a dd-3 or 5 or 7
Idk but you just need a repeat or two
Not super long
What guitar are you using?
It's a Stratocaster style guitar with a humbucker in the bridge. "HSS" pickup configuration. Humbucker, single-coil, single-coil
