I like the video. I have an 89 Javlen that I want to extend the front deck on. Gave me some great ideas. Here's a tip on carpet. If doing all new you want to make sure the carpet knap lays all in the same direction and towards the drains. If adding a section just make sure it lays the same as the existing. It will help the water drain and will dry faster and match better.
The lack of storage can be thanked by how tournaments were and tackle storage was back in the day. Made the decks that way so the tackle box the pros used could be at the edge of the deck opened up and they only ever really used 2 maybe 3 rods back then and they were never really longer than 6’
how much room do you have between the lid & deck, to allow for the carpet? I will be building a deck soon with a compartment & looking for tips to cutting out the lid. How did you cut out the lid? Thanks
I cut the lid out using a plunge-cut technique with a circular saw. Then, using a table saw, I trimmed 3/16” off of 1 short side and 1 long side to allow space for carpet.

I would probably use L brackets, fasten them to each leg with stainless or galvanized wood screws, and fasten them to the floor of the boat using the same screws.
Hey man! Cool idea with the additional storage. But how did you cut out the storage compartment lid? Skilsaw? Jigsaw? I didn't see any starter holes for a jigsaw. I'm racking my brain on this. Thanks for your ideas!
M. B. Oh and you’ll want to make the door about a 1/4 inch smaller than the opening so you’ll have room to wrap the carpet around the door and have it still fit.
That's a great idea, but you used the wrong plywood. Once that wood gets wet it will delaminate. A suggestion for next time use treated plywood or mdo.
Has to be the early skeeters man . My 89 sx150 has zero storage . It sucks . I literally have nowhere to put my tackle bags . I shove them under my console . That how i found this video lol. Looking for ideas to add storage to my 89 skeeter .
+ALEX A very serious lack of storage, and the one big storage compartment that it does come with is kind of a pain to get into if you have a backseat angler with you. This particular boat also didn’t come with any rod storage, so I made a video on how I solved that issue also, check it out if you have the same problem. Blazinxtreme I usually use 1/2" or 5/8"...the thinner the plywood the more support you'll need underneath...if I know that I'm going to have a large storage compartment with a big lid, then I'll use thicker plywood.

Dave Northwest when you measured how high the legs needed to be did you just measure up to the stock deck height and leave a half inch for the plywood deck?
If i were building something that was going to be constantly exposed to the elements I would absolutely use a resin rather than paint. But my boat is always covered when not in use, so a resin would have just been overkill and extra work.

You should be using treated wood and galvanized or stainless steal screws.

Plunge cut with a skilsaw. I used to use a jigsaw but I cut much straighter with a skilsaw. You can get it done with either, but I prefer skilsaw.

why not use fiberglass resin instead of the waterproof paint

Mine works too. I used woodprix plans and build it without any problems.
