Hunter S Thompson interview with Keith Richard (insane).
This interview between Hunter S. Thompson and Keith Richards from 1993 is a whirlwind of bizarre. Commissioned by ABC, negotiations for the interview begin with a handwritten fax from Richards and may or may not include the exchange of cash before the two meet in a hotel room.
What comes next is, well, not very clear. The two discuss the afterlife (including the possible reincarnation of J. Edgar Hoover), the role of The Beatles in popularizing the Rolling Stones, the intricacies of various art mediums (“A painter’s got a canvas, but there’s got to be a frame around it. Somewhere. The writer’s got reams of empty paper which he’s supposed to fill with words and brilliantly put together. And a musician has silence.”), and more in what can best be described as a drug-induced fever dream.
The best we can assume is that these two titans on ingenuity ingested some of the same substances and connected on a neural level we won’t be able to fully comprehend.

The most interesting thing about this is that they both seem to understand what the other one is saying.

The problem is that the Grateful Dead had absolutely nothing to do with security at Altamont. They did not even suggest or ever mention Hell's Angels in any way having to do with Altamont. This according to Jerry Garcia and Rock Scully. The Rolling Stones dictated who, what and where with regards to organizational structure at that show. The tragedy itself is due to a complex set of circumstances, and I'm not trying to blame any one entity. BUT to blame it on the Grateful Dead is erroneous.

Nobody can imagine what it would be like to be one of the Rolling Stones. From the stance of being so extremely fucked up all the time, to the fans, to the travel, to the deprivation of anything that resembles "reality"... the drugs... the travel, the wear-and-tear... the longevity and endurance these guys must have. To me, it's mind-boggling... and yeah, they used the word "inimitable" and I thank God for that. I wouldn't want to imitate any one of them in any way, shape or form, other than having their money. The Stones have to have such a different perspective on this world and the people in it than anyone else in this world. They've been everywhere, they've seen everything... theyv'e lived their lives in a dream. I can't even fathom that type of life-style. I may be able to relate to certain things on a much smaller level, but the status that the Stones carry in this world truly is mind-boggling. Too bad I can't even understand what this iconic figure is fucking saying....or referencing to....

The Altamont situation wasn't quite as simplistic as he describes it. There's a whole dark and sinister side to that event that most people would never accept or acknowledge even if the band members admitted to it. People have their limits and when shit is too real, people seem to just dismiss whatever makes them too uncomfortable or unpleasant.
