I have poked around a bit there and never found a big enough bit of gold that could set off a metal detector. If you see white 'quartz-like' flakes in the bottom of your pan next to the black sands and it is hard to wash out, you have found a boron mineral ore which has a high in specific gravity.
@@GirlintheGarageDotStore I was wrong in calling the stuff boron it was in fact Barite an ore of Barium. Limited amount was minined there some time ago, it is not particulaly valueable. According to a descendant of the original mining operation this was because many of the workers were being paid wages (sounds like poor management to me).

@zacktoby I was getting coins lots of coins there. Hubby got a few flakes of gold
