    I've been doing embedded firmware for 25 years and for a long time I've been concerned that we don't get a lot of "new blood" in the field. I'm glad you made this video. I love the field and hope more young people enter the field.

      @iffyrules As a Comp Sci new grad, what projects do you suggest I try out in order to figure out if I'll love Embedded Systems. I definitely like Software Engineering. I liked taking an Embedded Systems course in 4th year. I liked the theory but I'm not sure how in love I'll be with the hardware, but I don't want this to stop me. Any suggestions please?
      Also what do you think of the book:
      Making Embedded Systems: Design Patterns for Great Software

      I started as in web dev and now is a jr full stack but embedded system is where I want to go. I am acquiring as much information as I need before going in the journey. I probably have to retake math and physics but with the new logic I developed with programming, I feel like it won't be as bad as I think it would.

      @@pyzziie6712 BRO IM THE SAME I'm 24 currently as a front end and have a startup in web dev I enjoy developing and designing but embbeded engineering is where I want to go because I really like the idea of interacting with hardware and programming software it's like doing UI ux and development all in one.
      Currently doing a post bacc in computer engineering.

      You can do embedded with almost any language you want. C and C++ are probably the most common, but you can now buy microcontroller boards for which Python implementations exist... if you are willing to live with the performance hit. If you want to "go tribal", FORTH and assembly language are fine. They are easier than you think, even for fairly large projects.

  • @lepidoptera9337

    No, you won't. You will be working long hours, the bosses will be breathing down your neck and you will be paid half as much as a chip designer. ;-)

    • @ArvinTR-tx1ew
      @ArvinTR-tx1ew 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      First world problems.
      You live in a country that designs chips in the first place.
      On the under hand, second and third world countries don't have privilege of having VLSI as job listing but embedded developers are at the top of electrical engineering hierarchy.

    • @lepidoptera9337
      @lepidoptera9337 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ArvinTR-tx1ew That other countries need to catch up in chip design is true, but that the embedded guy is at the top is total bullshit. You will morel likely find a physicist, mechanical engineer, software architect or even an MBA as the manager in many projects. Trust me, kids, microcontroller stuff is child's play and it is being treated as such in the hierarchy. If you can't do better, you deserve to be at the bottom of the food chain. ;-)

      if one knows microcontrollers (and more advanced stuff) and they let likes of theology majors and programming bachelors be their project managers, the problem is with themselves not the profession.
      ah, yes, there is a lofty skill threshold where non-replaceability of electrical engineers begins and one get to drive a hard bargain.

      What point you want to demonstrate? Embedded engineering is redundant?
      Of course in order to design a sufficiently complex system one needs a team of engineers and scientists from various specialties, but what makes an embedded enginee lesser of the team?
      And of course you missed my point almost entirely. Blinking a LED using an Arduino connected to a desktop PC is a hobby endeavor, not 'serious' engineering. If your definition of embedded engineering is in a way that even a child can know the microcontroller PORTION of embedded design, then, it won't be wonder that engineers of such skill-levels are low-paid and are easily replaceable.
