- The Lamy Vista is an affordable fountain pen that I recommend to beginners who want to draw or write. Previously, I had made a mistake calling this the Lamy Safari.

Thank you for this review! It helped me decide which pen to start with!
....you reviews really help some of us make better choices on tools for sketching and painting, saves alot of trial and error, not to mention $$...... thanks.....
+Rick L Thanks! Check out my blog too ( parkablogs.com ) where I feature more artbooks. WARNING: It could help you save money, but also help you spend money. LOL.
Thank you for helping me in the right decision with your video. I just have bought this Lamy Safari fountain pen and it's fantastic for sketching. Keep up the good work!
Another great review! Here's so more feedback on these pens: I have two of these--the Lamy Vista like you showed here in a fine point and a Lamy Safari in a extra fine point. I have not noticed much difference in the line on them. The F is more like a medium and the EF is almost a fine point--but not quite. For a really fine point I had to go to the Kuretake Carbon Black desk pen.
This made my buy it as my first fountain pen! Thank you, Have a great day!
You need to do a tutorial on how to draw that guy on the scooter!

You're showing us incredible supplies. Thank U very much.
+Don't Be Sad Thanks!
I am seriously thinking of trying my first fountain for sketching and the Lamy Safari looks like the one for me. I see that you can not only buy fine or medium nibs but there’s also a Left Handed nib option. I am left-handed but wonder if there is any advantage to getting that nib???
Just ordered it I’ve got a few safaris I want a maroon or deep red model!
Thank you for your review, Teoh. I just purchased this pen today and it's great.
+Jacopo Moruzzi Thanks!
I love my Lamy pens. I currently have the new neon lime Safari which I carry when I go outside to write in my A6 Rhodia webnotebook and a dark purple Al-star that I use to write with at home.
+WAT Neon? Is that very bright?
Do i need to buy the ink converter to refill using the ink that you showed.
It is recommended so that you can refill with ink bottle. Saves money in the long run.
@@teohyc thanks
Interesting that the clear plastic scratches easily. Since the other bodies have an ink window as well, they would be an alternative if this bothers anyone. I will be getting one of these because of their interchangable nibs and the many types of nibs. Lamy nibs are reported to be good performers and the one Lamy I own supports this. Thanks!
+James Jacocks Some people take really good care of their fountain pens. If it's expensive, then I'll pay more attention. But if it's not that expensive a pen, I won't stress out about a few scratches. Lamy is good. I have them for a few years and still working fine.
Very good job Man. Thanks for teaching and sharing. I wish you all the best.
+Vecchia Guardia Stilografica Thanksh :-)
what nib size are you using to draw the scooter
Can't really remember. That was too long ago
i just wanted to say that, the pen you was showing was the LAMY vista not the LAMY safari. Great video by the way, i'm definitly going to purchase it.
ALBERTO VILLARROEL Lamy vista used to be Lamy safari clear version, it was just a clear version of Lamy safari, only later Lamy safari clear became a separate product Lamy vista
Thanks. I like Lamy EF nib. I am thinking about buying TWSBI which nib should be purchase?
Thank you. Very helpful avoiding time wasted. Which other fountain pen would you recommend for Noodlers permanent inks?
Noodlers ink is more fluid and less viscous compared to carbon based pigment ink. You can use them in any fountain pen.
Now I have the choice to get a Lamy Safari with a F-nib (fine?) or EF-nib (extra fine?). If would like to sketch with the fountain pen and write some notices (70% draw/sketch, 30% write). And it may be that the sketchbook paper sometimes is cold pressed with a little texture. Which nib do you prefer, F or EF?
+Eric Sareyka The difference between them actually is not too big. It really depends on what kind of lines you like. I personally like thicker ones so I will go with thick.
WOW I didn't know the ink converter came separately 💖👍
Thank YOU~!
makes me appreciate my pen even more, because I got mine off of eBay and it did come with a converter ❤️❤️👍❤️❤️ THANK YOU AMANDA~!
Teoh I know your name is not Amanda hahaha just to clear up any confusion Amanda was the young lady who sold me the pen 🙃
Oh my god Teoh, did you review an entire stationary store from all around the world? xD Thanks for the review.
I want to. 😂
informative review. I didn't quite catch what kind of ink you said you were using at 2:30?
+Architectural Aesthetics Noodlers Bulletproof black
Thank you for prompt reply. I will certainly go as per your advice.
Hello,
What's the waterproof ink called? 2:27
Can't remember. Check out these inks instead www.parkablogs.com/content/waterproof-fountain-pen-inks-drawing
good review thank you.. im a writer but also a artist.. some times drawing just gets the ink flowing enough to get the ideas flowing.. ..... like shaving. i get good ideas shaving to. but drawing is more fun..
Thanks for the review! What kind of paper did you use for the demonstration? Also, what is the best size nib for general sketching?
+Sharon Nolfi The paper is just some cheap cartridge paper. Best nib... Personally I like the F or M nib. It really depends on whether you like thick or thin lines.
+Teoh Yi Chie Thanks. I'm wondering how it performs on cold press and hot press watercolor paper, as in you journals.
+Sharon Nolfi It works well on coldpress and hotpress paper.
Do I need the ink converter for this to use other inks? Please explain... Thank you!
+Chris Yes, you need to buy ink convertor as it is not included.
Yep or you can refill normal cartridges :3
Please suggest which brand of Lamy as well as of TWSBI is best suitable for long hours of writing eg - for lawyers, university students etc. Requirements for a good fountain pen - - fatigue free and butter smooth writing, easy to carry and clean, big volume ink capacity, sturdy, easy to refill, light weight.
I'll probably recommend TWSBI over Lamy because TWSBI can hold a lot more ink than Lamy. They write equally well. TWSBI also looks better.
Do you have any idea why every Lamy Vista pen I buy skip? It doesnt feed properly and it fades very quickly. Ive tried a lot of types of paper and always use the Lamy ink...
Not sure why
Hi Theo, I have a question for you. Would you prefer a Lamy Safari or a Tswbi eco to draw with RK Sketchink? I'm using a Lamy F nib with the RK Sketchink, but I don't get good results from it, at the beginning the ink was much more fluid and much lovely to write with it, and I try to draw/write with it almost everyday.
So, would you recommend me another permanent ink? Or it's better to try with another fountain pen with the sketchink that I have at the moment? In that case I would buy the Twsbi if you think that is a good option.
Thanks!!!!
Personally I prefer TWSBI for the design. As long the nib is a standard typical nib, it should perform more or less the same. Ink, how thick it is, will affect ink flow. But pen nibs should be smooth on paper, unless it's EF nib.
@@teohyc the nib in my Lamy is F, but it doesn't seem to be smooth when I write with it. What may I change for writing better, fountain pen or ink?
Hi Theo, I've just received my first Lamy Safari today, I'm using it with the skethink, I grab the pen correctly but I'm having problems with the fluidness of the ink, it cost me to write and draw, have you any advice? I thought I won't need to do as much pressure as whit the regular pens... Thank you very much.
What ink are you using?
@@teohyc skethink thea
Hey Teoh, nice video. I have a question for you.
I am an experienced artist using ink products(technical pens, dip pens, brush pens). But I have never used a fountain pen and I want to so I've been doing some research and I am stuck between the lamy safari demonstrator and the duke fountain pen with a fude nib. I have an Amazon gift card for $50 so it would have to be lower price then that including ink, and a converter. Thanks!
+Artseytips You can get Lamy Safari for $25, the ink converter for $5, Noodler's ink for $20. The Duke fude nib pen you can buy on eBay on a later date. It cost around $10-15 only.
+Teoh Yi Chie thanks!
Really good video :) i have a question, is there any difference between this Lamy Vista and the Lamy Safari? or is only the name? thank you.
+Lorena Baz Lamy Safari is the model of the pen. Vista is the specific demonstrator model with transparent body. But it is still shaped like a normal Safari pen.
Teoh Yi Chie oh, thank you for the acclaration, it was a bit confusing, and thank you for the amazing videos!
Would you say fine nib is .35 something like that?
what paper is good to use for this pen :) please and thank you so much your videos help so much, also you are majorly talented
Thank i was wondering between EF and F
How do you maintain it so that the ink does not dry at the tip? i never use a fountain pen before, thank u
If you keep writing the ink will keep flowing and not dry
When I bought my pen from their outlet in China (which turned out to be a mistake because it ended up being twice as expensive as if I bought locally, which I did not know at the time), the sales rep recommended not to use carbon ink in the pen as it will "poison" the feed. My Chinese isn't stellar but I assumed she means it will clog it up and given that I don't think you can remove the feed to clean it in this pen, I doubt it is a good idea to use pigmented or Baystate inks in it. I'm no expert though, only been into fountain pens the past 3 months or so.
+Tom TeaYH There are pigmented ink made specially for fountain pens, such as the Platinum Carbon and Sailor KiwaGuro. With pigmented ink, it's best to clean the pen monthly.

Wonderful review ... If you could draw with any fountain pen out there what would it be ?? Do you have grail pen ? And nib ? In another words what would your ideal drawing tool be ? Thanks for your time !! Your doing a wonderful job
+A Red Falcon I would say the Sailor Cross Music or Cross Emperor. I'll put out a video review for them in the future. Text reviews are below:

www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-sailor-cross-emperor-nib-fountain-pen
If you ask me that question any month, it might be a different answer. Currently, I like using the Pelikan M200
www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-pelikan-m200-fountain-pen
I have this from years and I just yesterday realized why my was scratchy... I bought it with LH nib, which is for left handed people, but I write with my right hand... Anyway, its also usable.
I just can't remove the feed with my hand, although I'm strong, it's super stuck there. I will never use pliers. Anyway, it is cleaned also good with soaking and water flushing without removing the feed.
Use something to push the feed from the converter side, use something that not only fits but almost fill the space, i use a pen usually...
All pens are like that the first time, but one you dissasemble them once the next time its verybeasy to do with your hands
Do you think the Safari or Joy is better for drawing? Assuming you use an appropriate nib
Safari is better. Lamy Joy has a long body which I personally don't like.
Amazing pen, but do not buy medium nib, buy the fine. I have given my medium away to a family member and got another one with fine nib, purely because fine draws out less ink and I am a slow writer.
Medium for me is not so pretty for my writing style.
Hi Teoh, would you recommend using rotring isograph waterproof ink with Lamy Safari?
It may clog so better not. You can use Noodlers Bulletproof Black, Sailor KiwaGuro or De Atramentis Document/Archive Black. Those are waterproof inks made for fountain pen use.
@@teohyc Have you tried SketchINK in Lotte? I've seen you recommend SketchINK for people who want waterproof colored inks, so I'm wondering how the black ink in that line is. Thanks! :)
I am new to drawing, and am using Micron and Snowman pens right now. Why are fountain pens so popular with artists? What do they do which marker-type pens don't?
+Amy Samin You can refill them easily so it is cheaper in the long run. And you can use whatever ink you want.
Teoh Yi Chie I see. Thank you so much for your quick reply! Your videos are wonderful.
2 Questions:
Q: 1) Why do some people call them Demonstrators?
Q: 2) Which is the smoothest pen as far as writing?
+Sylvia Catalano Perhaps they are called that because they demonstrate how fountain pens work. Lol.
Smoothest pen I used is small Kaweco fountain pens. There should be a lot of smooth pens available.
Since recording this video have you experienced any problems with that ink in the Lamy?
No problem
thank you
Hi,Theo!
How about quality for fake Lamy from Aliexpress?
Some rewies and blogs says, that fake has a good quality, but not the bright ink-color in use. But they use this pen for writing, not for sketch. How about sketchin with fake Lamy?
I ask this, becouse price 5$ vs 30$ its interesting. And fake Lamy has free ink converter in pack.
+fred flint It's not good to support people who steal other people's product. Besides, the Lamy fountain pen is not that expensive. If you want cheaper fountain pens, just get Duke or Hero fountain pens.
Thanks, Theo!Of Couse you right! You mean Duke 209 or another model? How about Jinhao?
Or Caliarts?

fred flint I have not heard of that brand before. You could get it and make a review to help others.
Thaks for your help,Theo!
I may buy one of these. I had it in my amazon cart and took it out because I got the pentel metropolitan instead.
lamy vista vs twsbi ECO ? which one you recommend and why ?
The twsbi looks nicer in my opinion. It's a personal preference. Both should write well.
What do you think about a Jinhao x750?
+artgapelove I've actually not used the x750 before. The one that I have is modified with a Zebra nip. But it's worth trying because it's an extremely affordable fountain pen. Get it from eBay for the cheapest price.
hello, thanks for the nice video. I am interested in buying the Lamy Vista, but I have the doubt that the transparent plastic can scratch, crack or turn yellow over time. Did yours do it?
So is the Lamy Vista the transparent version of Safari?
Vista
The difference between f and ef is noticeable. I changed from f to ef.
Louis Xu I don’t understand if in the minutes 2:55 he used F or EF
Does this pen work on cheap printer paper?
Yes
@@teohyc Thanks!!! Your video helped me a lot!!!
Does it work in reverse/upside down?
+katherine324211 Like using the reverse side of the nib? It will give a very thin line.
@@teohyc Hi! Thanks for another wonderfully informative video. Is the triangular grip still comfortable when you use the reverse side of the nib?
@@SmasherBunny The triangle grip is not going to be comfortable if you flip the nib in reverse. After all the body is not designed to be held that way.
Actually, they're not Lamy Safari; those pens are Lamy Vista
+Celina Tran Oops.
Lamy vista is a clear version of Safari, it used to be a colorway of Safari, the clear version, but later became its own separate product
2:55 please I don’t understand what size is the nib used here? :(
Fine and Extra Fine
That's Vista Sir, not safari
realised that on a Vista the ink "windows" are a bit useless as you can already see your ink level through the whole pen...🤣🤣🤣
LAMY isn’t waterproof 😩
You need to use waterproof ink. E.g. Noodlers Bulletproof Black, De Atramentis, Sailor KiwaGuro
And Also PLATINUM Carbon black
