Destiny 2 - Differences in Dialogue (New Account Vs. Veteran Account)

- The video only focuses on story mission dialog. I have 2 different accounts (Which is how i got the new player dialogs), but i didnt even know about the different dialogs until I was playing on my New account and noticed Shaxx didnt call me Saladin's Young Wolf.

By being a Veteran.
You can't go back in time when Destiny 1 was created so you can't be a Veteran.
There's Veteran character who play since Year One players, Average character who play since Year Two Taken King, Rookie character who play since Year Three Rise of Iron, and finally Noob character who play none of Destiny 1
And I say 'character' instead of 'player' because people who change console or account still won't get the message even being a higher ranking character

There is one strike when you need to push through the drills and when you arrive at the cabal bunkers The ghost says something along the lines of “Sir, there is a cabal battalion protecting the drills” then Zavala answers “a battalion? What is that to you who has slain Gods in the heart of the Black Garden” i still get chills every time.
Curious that that line is even in with newbie characters but they still couldn't include the rest of this dialogue.
I thought I was the only one that got chills from that line.

It's really strange the things they cut out. Why would they cut Rasputin out when they had the DLC planned? Why avoid calling the fallen eliksni when forsaken will use it again? Why remove oryx when he will be mentioned next DLC and be important for forsaken? It's like they didn't expect any new player to actually keep playing the game.
@@bengale9977 hey newlight player here. So this blew my mind but I think it was to prevent spoilers. Without context for most of the dialogue I can do nightwave missions without having the story spoiled, but if they are too specific about things you end up piecing together some key parts of the story.

Hated that and still hate that. It should be easy to create a database searching function that searches peoples linked accounts on bungie and if the veteran flag is marked on 1 account, it should auto be marked on all accounts linked to that bungie profile.

Thanks for posting all of these. I switched from Xbox One to PS4 for Destiny 2, and as a D1 veteran I was a bit offended when Ghost started treating me like I was stupid.

I think it remembers your progress if you connected your bungie account to your PSN or XBOX account and Your Bilzzard account for PC. They might have some rewards for veterans from the console version

For any PS4 Forsaken players there is veteran dialogue in the exclusive strike The Broodhold that changes if you're a new account;
New: "Every hive here on the Tangled Shore was probably born here, in this nest. If we kill that queen, we cut them off at their source."
Veteran: "I've never heard of a Broodqueen so close to the surface. Mission reports from the hellmouth on Luna don't even mention them."

We literally play on 3 moons in destiny 2:
Luna: Earths only moon
Io: one of Jupiters moons
Titan: one of Saturn's moons
So that's why it referred to as Luna, its actual name.

While playing the campaign, I was thinking to myself, "How is a noob going to know any of what is being told?". Now I know they didn't receive the same dialogue as us Vets. Thanks for the vid!
The_Noodle_Thief kind puts a tear in your eye, knowing that they did everything they could do so you wouldn't be forgotten. The veteran intro to the game that shows all your achievements in destiny actually made me tear up a lot and that's very rare. Bungie knows how to pull on the right heart strings.
I'm glad they added different dialogue because I bought the game for pc as well and none of my pc friends have ever played destiny. So this will make them jealous XD
Metalrain's gaming That veteran intro actually made me emotional as well. It put a big fat smile on my face after seeing all the dates and the fire teams I had to complete every end game activity. It's those experiences that keep me going on Destiny. No other game has managed to grasp my attention and focus like Destiny.
If you looked closely, not only does the art work show what class you played as, but you can see the weapons your character was using at the time. I finished the black garden with a rocket launcher and scout rifle and sure enough the art work showed my character holding a scout rifle and a rocket launcher on his back.

Makes me wish i played d1. I don’t own an Xbox or playstation, but I really enjoy D2, especially forsaken. I’m having a lot of fun grinding Gambit triumphs and The Drifter Oozes lore for every introduction of the match. as Shaxx would say, I love it.

Weirdo not only that I got some voiceline from zavala saying "what is that to you who has slain God's at the heart of the black garden" and some other veteran lines, weird
I've never played the first Destiny, but I still got the veteran dialogue.
On the starting mission for the MIDA quest, Hawthorne calls the Ghost little. If you're a veteran player, Ghost says, "What is it with hooded, independent individuals calling me little?" In reply. This is referring to the Exo Stranger calling the Ghost "Little Light" in the Vanilla D1 storyline. However, I don't know what he says if you're not a veteran player.
If you're a noob, he just says, "Don't call me little."

There was only one dialog difference that didn't get recorded for some reason on the mission "Payback"

For any wondering what Eliksni is/are. It's simply a different name for The Fallen and I believe it's their species . But either way it's a different name for them.

Man this is such a a shame i didnt get to experience the veteran dialog even though i played destiny 1 since it came out all the way up until rise of iron, started on Xbox 360 then moved to PC.

Not gonna lie that's actually pretty cool how the game recognizes if you are Saladin's young wolf or not, or if the Ghosts knows what the Taken is or doesn't know who or what the Taken is and same goes for Oryx. If future DLC will have veteran/new dialogue oh boy since I've done everything in D1, you name it, I'm going to be hearing every single one of them if they do something like that in the DLCs.

I think by D3 all D1 stuff will just be general lore regardless of playing, we can expect 2-3 years until the next game, it would be unfair to players who went back, unless they re-opened D1 transfer at some point

I'm a level 30 in destiny two, (still waiting for some money to buy forsaken dlc lol) and all the time people think I didnt play D1 and it makes me so mad. Someone will try to explain the hive and how they can be summoned with rituals, so that's how shadowkeep happens and I stop them and talk about iron banner on ps3; sometimes they never even knew iron banner was a thing back then lol.

The farther we get into Destiny 2. The More i feel like the decision to have this "New Player Dialogue" actually creates some major continuity issues
no cause a new player would never have fought orix wouldn't have killed crota wouldn't have beaten the black garden so the dialouge changing would make since
I think the players that started with D2 are probably just Guardians that became Guardians after these events or just didn't fight Crota/Oryx and didn't bacame Iron Lord's.

I have not tried any strike(s) on my New account so I don't know, but I'm assuming lines like that are just not said at all.

I really like how they did veterans and new guardians it feels more immersive for new players and old players
It just shows how much thought and detail go into our game. If your a veteran of Destiny, you are treated with better dialogue. Small touches like this are absolutely tremendous.
I was so upset when the ghost started explaining everything to me and acting like he didnt know stuff. Thats what you get for moving to different consoles!!!! Wish bungie at least put an option to hear vet dialoge if you were a veteran guardian who switched consoles

They seem to know what DLC's you have played as well. I only completed the taken king dlc so I got all the dialogue related to the taken and anything from vanilla destiny but my ghost still didn't recognize the fallen sigil, vex mind fluid or was I referred to something else other than hunter at the beginning.

the fallen sigil and Veriks was shown in House of Wolves, before the Taken King. It's either a mistake or maybe he did mention it.
Maybe you had to do skolas and VoG to unlock those specific lines? I don't know if the OP did those.
did you switch from xbox to ps4 or the other way around?
I wouldn't be surprised if it does require you to do a few more specific "milestones" to get extra dialogue, considering it obviously was paying attention to when you first completed certain activities(HoW story, skolas, black garden, DB story, crota's end, regicide, KF, etc. etc. etc. all have the dates you completed them and even what fireteam you did them first with in your personal "legend".)

I love how it tells the same story with different dialogue at times.
It's weird, I mostly get the veteran lines, but there were a few where I got the noob lines.
McCbobbish had to beat the raida and events, when it shows the past achievements part when starting d2 if you dont have certakn ones it doesnt know if you ever beat it. Most likely the first two dlcs ur missing of eris and the fallen
It uses vet dialogue from your achievements from D1 meaning if you didn't defeat skolas you would for example not get the banner one
Skolos is at the prison of elders at the reef you can't miss him he's a big asshole by the way and I beat every DLC , Missions, strikes and Raids etc.
Triumphs, they tracked data among every activity you’ve completed and have yet to. Such as the first one, if you were a year 1 vet but never finished the Rise Of Iron, Shaxx would call you by your Class name, since technically, Saladin never called you a young wolf since you never play the campaign.
This may include completions of Raids(maybe for the Oryx one, not sure since I completed everything.) or Strikes.

Honestly, playing the game the first time, I was kinda thinking “isn’t this a sequel? Why do we not know anything?”, and I guess this is why. I never played D1, so I still needed catching up
in the beginning when shaxx calls the guardian young wolf he’s referring to the rise of iron dlc for d1 because the guardian in d1 defended against siva and killed there archon priest aksis.the part where caged asks the guardian if he’s ready to borrow the shit is referring to the taken king dlc of d1 in one of the missions the guardian had to borrow eris’ ship and use it to bored the dreadnought to wage war against the hive god oryx who is the father of a different hive god called Crota. The part where cayde references to eliskni is because that is what the “fallen’s” true name are before they got corrupted by the darkness.there is another part that is not in the video but during the curse of Osiris dlc when the ghost sees the vex he says “they look different” or something like that but for a veteran it says”these are the vex from the vault of glass” or something similar to that. The vault of glass is another dlc of d1 and those vex are the ones protecting the vault of glass which held atheon the “leader” of the vex who controlled the timeline until the guardians killed him.
Sorry if I miss spelled anything but I do hope what I wrote helps you understand the story of destiny more.

This actually cleared things up for me. I played the majority of D1 on Xbox 360 and when D2 came out I played on my XB1. I kept getting pissed at Bungie for not keeping continuity. Turns out, it was me who wasn’t keeping continuity
Yeah I got lucky I bought it digitally on 360 and they gave it to me for free on Xbox one and all my characters and gear transferred over
I started playing Destiny in 2016 and Destiny 2 in 2018. I remeber that at the end of a mission, my ghost was arguing with osiris's ghost about the taken, oryx and the infinite garden. At one point she says "you guys know that oryx is dead, right?" Like no bitch we were just the ones who murdered him.
Think it was the “bug in the system” adventure.
You have to appreciate the effort put into establishing background for new players, and the further effort put into new dialogues for vets

I thought I was going crazy when I was running missions. I kept telling my friends that they changed the dialogue. Never occurred to me until now, it changes depending on your history as a guardian

I got all the dialogues but the fallen banner. I’m a veteran but never played during house of wolves. Pretty neat how they know what you did. Wish more games did this
Already seen this video when it was first uploaded. Rewatching it and it reminded me that even though my account is d1 year 1 account some of the dialogues were not veteran dialogues, was kinda bummed out but got over it since it was just a couple like the radiolaria one

Destiny veterans will know SIVA and all the Fallen houses but I kinda feel sorry for the newcomers they don't know any of this stuff maybe they could watch let's play or but a console or read books on destiny to help them know.

So, I was a veteran of the first game on XBOne, but bought Destiny 2 on PC- there was no option for the veteran voice lines, so I'm sitting here answering my own Ghost's questions:
-"This is a Fallen sigil. I don't recognise it though."
~"It's fucking House Judgement, Variks and that, you mong."
It's quite annoying because I feel as though my Guardian, who is exactly the same physically, isn't the same person as my first :c
The fact that they change the dialogue is just so cool to me. I love it when they make references to the first game
I know I am late to the party. But it is pretty cool how they did this. I actually never knew of this until today watching a TH-cam short. I got all the Veteran dialogue due to my legacy accounts but it’s pretty dope they did that for new players too.
I thought all the veterans dialog was the normal thank you for putting in all the work

Feels good to be a vet in this game, what really gets me the most and feels so great is in the beginning where shaxx calls you saladin’s young wolf idk why but it just touching to me when I heard that.

You know, I was so excited to become an Iron Lord in Rise of Iron. And when I learned that our achievements in D1 would be referenced in D2, it made me so proud I did just about everything there was to be done. And what was my reward as an Iron Lord? Shaxx called me “Saladin’s Young Wolf.” That’s it. Talk about disappointing.
I felt proud of myself, to be called Saladin's Young Wolf. Coming from Shaxx, that's some nice praise.

As someone who played thousands of hours on xbox and will soon be playing on destiny 2 on pc, I'm super sad ill never hear the veteran dialogue in-game. :(
Blazko They really need to give PC players the option to hear all the veteran content if they want, since it wasn't exactly possible to complete Destiny 1 content on PC. This is going to be a huge issue, maybe not super important, but extremely common.
I 100% agree. Just a simple option in the settings menu would be great.

To me it matters more then an emblem because dialogue changes the way you receive the story. It also makes it seem like your character is on a much more personal level with the vanguard and other characters. It makes your character feel more attached to the events of the game instead of feeling like some random guardian that showed up out of nowhere.
I thought you can connect your microsoft account? Anyway I'm not making the jump i'm sticking to console.
It makes me mad that PC players cannot claim their veteran status despite being linked on Bungie.net and Battle.net.

Omg I played Destiny 1 on PS4 and I played Destiny 2 on PC and I was so confused like why are you explaining everything to me now I now that it would be different, that's kinda cool
I'm at D1 player from day 1 to the last before D2. But I went to PC so I didn't get ant of those cool little details, I was wondering why my ghost didn't know the Taken, House Judgement or the great Rasputin. Oh well now I know.

I may have gripes with destiny, but this is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a game or rather games. It’s a cool way to say thanks to your fans
Problem is, I played destiny 1 for 200+ hours and all the dlcs but they were on a different account than the one I used to play destiny 2, and I'm not into doing it again
Is there any way to manually turn on the veteran lines? I'm moving from Xbox to PC for D2 and I'd rather not get the New Character voice lines

This is interesting! As someone who never played Destiny DLC 1 or 2 but played TTK the dialong switches between the two regularly!
I’m a D1 veteran, and had all the veteran lines excluding taken king. Is it cause I didn’t complete the raid or something?

Not the raid but the TTK campaign. I never did KF and got the vet’s lines.
I never played the raid, & my ghost said "Oryx is supposed to be dead".

Odd I can’t remember Shazam calling me young wolf but I did do everything for rise of iron. Maybe I just missed it.
