Hi Josh, passed my test back in the late 90s and motorbike in early 2000s. Watching your videos with my partner who did struggle with this roundabout, so thanks for explaining it really well. Bit of history on the Aldi/Black Friar lanes to South on the A34. About 15 years ago you used to be able to use the left and right lane exiting Southbound. I remember a lot of outrage at making this just a right lane entrance to the roundabout at the time. The Sentinel covered it a lot (when that was a thing). A very large number of Castle residents vowed never to adopt the new rule, so you probably have the knock on effect of an idiotic rule coming into play, and sticking for years (hence the stupid traffic jams in peak hours, which were never that bad). This is no good for new drivers, obviously, but thought i would explain the reason it happens, well more than likely!
This roundabout is very confusing especially when your not sure of the area, i have been driving around in my car to get use to it but you have explained it well (a liitle fast perhaps) i have my mod 2 coming up so i will take your advice on board thank you 👍🏻
Hi Josh, A good video with some easy to understand information. I have found using the term "right hand lane" instead of "right lane" a safer direction to give as some people use the word "right" instead of "correct". I've seen this happen numerous times whilst observing lessons. Although an easy mistake to make, it can also be easy to rectify by using clear directions/instructions. Personally I'm not a fan of the 12 o'clock rule for roundabouts. It seems a simple way of giving misinformation. The highway code has the easiest explanation: Unless signs or markings indicate otherwise, when turning left first exit use the left hand lane. When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, use the right hand lane. When talking any intermediate exit, use the most appropriate lane. I feel that this helps the pupil begin to think for themselves more and is a great way to get them anticipating and planning. Thank you for the content.
@@JoshRamwell indeed I have my test in 2 weeks so just looking at different roudabouts in the area this one and the MFI (Basford, showing my age there lol) one are terrible..
Hi Josh, from the road markings it looks like a spiral roundabout, so should i be changing to left line after the second exit without signal (towards Aldi) when i am coming from hospital side taking 3rd exit to bus station area...? i see a split of lane after second exit...
Rush I think you are a good driver I would like a driving test with you when I get my licence I live in Newcastle give me a light as I give you the like thank you

No worries!

Cheers Tommy some great feedback thank you and I agree that's a better term that I will adopt regarding the roundabouts and lanes. Thanks again 🙌
I have got full driving licence for 8 yrs but this roundabout is very confusing
all the times I've used this roundabout i never knew that was in the middle lol.. but that is a tough one to get to
grips with
It really is and doesn't help with half the drivers using the wrong lane.😁🙌

What lane do you take when entering the roundabout from Aldi and exiting onto the road to the hospital (3rd exit)
Always known that roundabout as the bear pit!
Hi I’ve did 30hours of driving lessons when will I be reversing as I haven’t did that yet?
If it was me you would do it when you asked. Ask your driving instructor if you can start it. See what they say
I hate this round about always scares me to death honestly 😢
I'd like to see less edits. But good work, lots of memories of being a denizen of the sunken roundabout.
