  • Editing a multitrack on a Studer 820 MCH Tapemachine.
Outro is way too long, so we gonna shorten it up.

In the 1980's I was asked to edit some songs in my 2 inch studio. I can remember cranking up the Urei811s and rotating the tape by hand and marking my cuts. Always got it right but it certainly was a special skill.

In the 70s and 80s, I would get calls from a surrounding 100 mile radius to cut 2” tape. At first, I wondered if I was being played but finally saw other engineers looking at me like an alien when I routinely cut 2” tape. It’s quick, super accurate, and the easiest possible musical solution. I wore gloves because I have oily skin but a de-magged razor blade was all I needed to edit.
