Some years ago I was on a ski vacation at Snowmass, Coloeado. One morning I woke up with a sharp pain in my hip, so while my companions hit the slopes, I stayed in and listened to this piece on my Walkman. When it was over, my pain was gone, and I skied happily for the rest of the week. This piece has truly magical healing properties!

    Во второй части попадаешь...домой.
В пространство тайного Дома за сердцем.
И в начале её - удивительно точно построенный.
И какая же память пробуждается этим...
    Какие молодцы музыканты здесь!
    The door to immeasurable ocean...

I love how Richter always looks exasperated when playing. Not because he’s struggling or experiencing technical difficulties, no, as Richter had an enormous technical equipment that could handle anything, but because he’s so entirely involved in the emotional and psychological substance of the work at hand.

    • @gfweis
      @gfweis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I agree. What looks like effort is not the presence of any technical challenge, but an aim to give each phrase the the proper inflection, weight, and density.

This exquisite interpretation of an absolute unique chamber music masterwork brought to life almost unreal memories.....
I was only 16 when my older colleague and friend, Tudor Dumitrescu, - incredible Rumanian Pianist and composer, at that time only a few years older than myself - brought the music score and parts to me (Cello part) and my other three colleagues (two violinists and one viola player) with the enthusiastic:
“ Hey!!!! This is the piece worth living and dying for!!!!! Are you game?!”
    YES.!!!!!!! YEs!!!!!
We did practice like madmen every second day and our performance should have changed the course of music history, we all thought.
The oldest performer was 18, the youngest 15.... and Franck Quintett is for professionals hard enough.
But we never performed our concert.
On the 4th of March 1977, the devastating earthquake (7,3 on Richter Scale) took the life of our beloved Tudor Dumitrescu to the realm of perpetual bliss ....
And indeed, it is music to live and die for🙏🌈❤️

Richer and the quatuor Borodin are absolutely outstanding in this quartet which id=s full of romantism and passion. The strengh of Richter is imporessive. It is great to have such (ex) Soviat virto uosos playing this Franch music chambe masterwork.

Emotionally speaking this is white hot ! Franck fell for one of his students, Augusta Holmes, and this work was the result. His wife couldn't bear it, knowing it's origin. I've actually played it with four musician friends; just informally several years ago.

When Kopelman comes in to sing the leading motif so beautifully at 2:02, I would have sworn I was hearing Dubinsky. It's amazing how the group maintained their sound across changes in personel.

(Now this guy really has “Man hands!.”)
I am not enamored of this piece in spite of its excellence,
nor has Richter ever been a favorite of mine even though he was the first
pianist I ever saw live-with Chicago Symphony doing the Brahms 2nd on
his first Western tour in 1960, and which he later recorded for RCA, I think
his first recording-I still have the LP.
But this piece and his playing here are certainly perfectly
    suited.
Thank you for putting it up.

I love Richter and Borodin Quartet and I was expecting a lot from this performance, but I must admit I was somewhat disappointed. It sounds somewhat routine and emotionally unconvincing, in my humble opinion. There are at least three better performances on youtube of this great work.
