This was awesome, thank you ladies. Day 71 with no alcohol today, going to AA for the first time since my sober date and just figuring it all out. I loved the quote about having a problem with someone else's God - that really spoke to me because I don't follow any religion and much prefer to take responsibility for my actions instead of handing it over to someone else I've never met. I have a higher power that I've begun to speak to, which has been helpful the past couple days. This conversation added so much more to my recovery process!! Much love to you both.
@LelaStrika thank you!! 89 days today and feeling better than I ever thought I could. My higher power is my mother, she passed a couple years ago and also went to AA. Another higher power is myself, the part of me that is whole and healed.
AA is terrifying to me ... religious dogma... I love lifering group support (secular). Nobody is called a negative name like "alcoholic" my brothers won't geet help because they think AA is the only way and they were Catholisized as a young child so AA is Triggering for us all. It's going to "fade away" because young people reject religion
That's the point of the book, it's to dispel misconceptions like the idea that AA is religious. It's not. It's also to say that you can work the 12 steps that side steps spirituality (which is just acknowledging energy) and do the steps through SMART recovery. The end goal is the same. Sobriety.
Well that’s good except the word isn’t getting out it’s stuck in its own rules large institutions have a difficult time changing with the times…. The big book needs to be revised as well because its old world writing techniques are outdated and young people don’t relate it at all.
@@micksmedia9766 the Big Book was just revised. I've heard they have changed some words to help the young people understand it better. I don't like labels and didn't want to identify as an alcoholic. I don't see the word as negative, I see it for it's definition - if you put one drink in your body and you can't stop at one then you have a physical allergy and if your mind is obsessing over when to have the next drink then you are most definitely alcoholic. Not negative, just what's true. And once someone faces what's true it becomes easier to take the next steps in recovery. AA saved my life and I am not religious at all!! I see the steps as a guide to the inner work needed to become sober. Take care. ✨
