Fun fact, in Scots dialect of English, "Yay" is yes, and "Nay" is no; so a very common expression in English if you ask your friend a question, one might say something like, "So do you want to go or not....yay or nay?" This is quite funny, because those sounds in Korean, you are just saying "yes or yes"....like the Twice song. Also, do people every say 옙? Because in English we actually say "Yep".

I don't want to offend your text book. But the sentence you gave me was unnatural.
김치찌개가 안 맵지 않아요? has double negative, 안, -지 않아요.
Korean people don't use this double negative.
The correct sentence would be
김치찌개가 맵지 않아요?
Isn't Kimchi chige spicy?
or
김치찌개가 안 매워요?
Isn't Kimchi chige spicy?
If it is spicy, you would say
네, 정말 매워요.
Yes. It is very spicy.
If it is not spicy, you would say
아니요, 안 매워요.
No, it's not spicy.
