You left out that the PlayStation 2 could play its games even after ejecting the game for a short time and could continue where you left of, so say a sibling accidentally hit eject button you had both time and continuation ability for the game you were playing
Master of spinjitsu Doom really, well ive never been into God of war so I apologize for that, however all games I had were able to do that, Dbz games, GTA games, THQ games, etc.

Also, I'll state it again on my own comment as I commented on someone's "who uses Linux" comment: if you have an Android device? You use Linux every time you use your device. +Rorik Simpson Most people consider the average consumer to be someone who doesn't know a lot about computers and just uses it for taxes and for their job. I use Linux on my Chromebook because Chrome OS is complete and utter garbage. But Windows on my main PC. Coding is something that most people don't take interest in as it is extremely complicated for the stuff they probably want to do. In terms of programming, it takes time and I doubt somebody has the patience to go through a bunch of TH-cam tutorials just to do one thing. Linux isn't a bad OS. The main reason why I feel Linux is average consumer friendly is any more it's less embraced the Android appearance and feel so really as long as someone can use a modern Android cell phone they can use modern Linux. Between the new App store, all instructibles included, and Google and TH-cam you don't have to have any programming experience or anything. I got my brother to try Linux, he's what would count as your "average consumer" and I didn't actually have to show him how to do anything. The Linux site explained perfectly how to install it 4 ways from Sunday and once installed it came with manuals that popped up and explained everything he needed to know. 20 minutes and a Google search later he was running Windows programs on his own, no programming, no setting tweaking, just open the app store, identify the app he needed, install, run.
I got a PS2 from my mother witch got it from my uncle who got the PS2 brand new as a present, and im still using it at my grandparents house. Reusing is fun!
What the heck i just read this comment then jumped from my chair to the ps2 and found the logo upside down i tried to turn it and i was like😱😱😱😱😲😲😲😲😲😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😨😨😨😨😨 and i almost swore good thing i was alone😂😂
I got mine as a hand-me-down WAY after they were cool, works like new, I have so many good games that probably no one knows about. It's my childhood and I still love it, I'm even still buying new games for it. ^ω^ Edit: although now that I got a Switch it looks much worse in comparison :/
^_^ For me, I used to have a PS1 and PSP. I still have a PS2 that my brother left for me. And I also have a PS4 (friend gave it to me for free as a hand-me-down) I played on two PS3s years back. One was at my brothers’ apartment and the other was at my dad’s house. I don’t own it. I remember playing games like Spider-Man, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Capcom vs SNK on PS1, Street Fighter EX3, KH, KH2, DBZ Games, Need For Speed 2, Kinetica, Guitar Hero Games, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, and more on PS2 when I was a kid in the 90’s and early and mid 2000’s. As an adult, I played Batman Arkham City, Skyrim, Uncharted, Alice Madness Returns, Persona and some more on PS3. And on my PS4, I played Outlast and Outlast Whistleblower and Kingdom Hearts series. I still need more games for my PS4. I never played Bully on the PS2 but I have played it on XBox 360 & Mobile. I’d like to play Bully on PS2 one day.
Yeah I also got the PS2 from my dad and whenever he'd come home from a long day at work I would catch him playing on it in my parents room. Socom 2 US Navy Seals, Midnight Club, Gran Turismo, Sonic Unleased and etc were such amazing games and the graphics still look so amazing even after all these years! I was around 6-8 when I started playing it (I was born the same year the PS2 came out) so much of the hype died down a little but ever since I've always had a PlayStation system always maintaining my loyalty with a PS2, PS3, PS4 and hopefully the new PS5 which is very hard to get these days. However I will admit that my loyalty has been tested as I ended up purchasing an Xbox Series X not because I was wanting to switch loyalties but because my friends either had the Xbox or had a PlayStation so I wanna be able to play on both since cross-play still needs to be in the works. Games like minecraft has it but that's really it.
@@johntracy72 the Xbox 360 had the same issue too, alongside the disk tray wearing out and not opening properly over time due to it standing vertically
Fact he didn't mention your PS2 could do. To get the best resolution possible in your PS2 console first connect it to a quality HD TV with either component cables or HDMI-PS2 adapter. Second, once you turn on your PS2 after the PS2 logo comes up press the triangle 🔺 and ❌ simultaneously to activate progressive scan mode. 😉👍
In my opinion, the PS2 has the most varied and interesting catalogue of games I've ever seen. And it was backwards compatible, so you could choose from the entire PS1 library too. I really wish Sony had continued to offer proper backwards compatibility, because despite its technical mishaps, the launch PS3 is probably the best system ever made, because it can play almost everything from three generations of consoles. The PS2 and PS1 both had catalogues exceeding 2000 games, so the tiny trickle of classics that get put on PSN (that you have to pay for again) is really underwhelming. Really I can't think of any excuse other than greed for not offering at least PS2/PS1 compatibility on the PS4, because the system is more than powerful enough to emulate both flawlessly. The problem with not offering BC on newer consoles is that eventually ageing hardware breaks down, especially if it has an optical drive. We may come to a point in a few decades where emulation is the only option. It's already happening with the Sega Saturn.
Just like the PS2 was the cheaper DVD player when it came out, so was the PS3 for BluRay when IT came out. Thanks SONY for giving us the cheaper option, which also meant that the big names had to drop their prices to compete. lol
Borgking79 In a business standpoint, they were very generous and the cost to manufacture PS3s was very expensive. Sony practically lost money for every console sold until the release of the PS3 Slim.
+Justin VanHeusen before hdmi, there were a set of cables called multi component cables that plugged into a ps2 like normal but instead of the standard 3 connectors they had 5. They’re necessary for 1080i on ps2, I’ve been meaning to buy some for gt4
Final Fantasy XII and, I think, Rogue Galaxy (the latter of which I am currently playing, as well as making a Strategy Guide for, as well as its PS4 re-release) are also HDMI compatible, Adam Ray. I certainly know that the PS4 is so, as is in HD, and it looks even BETTER on the PS4, though the PS2 original port is no slouch, even in the modern era.
Lol I never stopped playing mine haha..refurbished remotes two memory cards and a shitload of games from spyro too crash..but nfs2 underground will always be king..only reason I just watched this vid was im about to play mine haha..
I have mine and works just fine, it's the slim version though, the first one that I had burned along with my collection of games, comics and figures on a house fire.
The PS2 is/was the best system put out in the past 20 years. I know the 3, the 4 and other x boxes are more powerful, but no other system in that time span was pushed to its limits like it was.
conflict desert Storm 1 and conflict desert Storm 2 back to Baghdad resident evil 4 red alert retaliation ATV off-road fury 2 and 3 guitar heros and Star wars battlefront 2 and Star wars battlefront and many more
As the ps3 came, i was wondering why no one made advertisings mention that it was the cheapest blu ray player at that time, so they could sell more consols...
the reason was because Sony got super cocky after the ps2 sold super well and very vaguely advertised it with disturbing confusing commercials thinking “well they all liked ps2 so much so they’ll have to buy this.” it sold poorly at first and later on to save it then they started taking marketing it seriously but it definitely gave Xbox 360 a huge head start for the generation
@Shyammont its such a versatile game for its time! Another ps2 game that is still amazing and far ahead of its time, is Jak And Daxter: the precoursors legacy. The next 2 werent too good imo.
Great video! Let's not forget the fact that the PS2 is also backwards compatible, an added bonus for people who still own PS1 games. I'm still rockin' my PS2 and buying games for it. Timesplitters 2 & 3 are great to play with friends. I still have some old PS1 games too. I love MDK for it's weirdness, originality and fun gameplay, and I still play Twisted Metal World Tour when friends come over.
I always like seeing towers on the PlayStation 2 startup screen because that's what makes it very unique and creative, unlike many other video game consoles. I have the North American NTSC SCPH-30001 PlayStation 2. Good job!
As I saw this Video I thought ,,Why is he telling me things I already know" then I looked at the date and I thought ,,Hmm, maybe Kids or Oldies didn't knew that" but I'm Still using my PS2 ;)
I have an OG PS2.. can't play it on it's side anymore. I have to lay it flat, turn it on, let it run for about 5-10 minutes to I guess warm up, then it finally reads the disc and plays fine. 20+ year old PSX plays perfectly fine, colors faded like a SNES. My fat PS3 broke, trying to re-connect the chips on the board worked for like a month and I had to ebay a slim for 100 bucks. Totally have the memory card at 9:35 too.
Although it’s 2019, I’m gonna get a PlayStation 2 again. I had 2 throughout my childhood but never played them properly because I was really crap at games but now that I’m older I’d love to replay some of the games I had growing up including the mainstream ones I never got to experience.
Bullshit! To sell something massiv, than its all about marketing! Better comperable products might easly stands behind, because they are not in everybodys mind,to expensive... There were way better consoles back in time
It depends on what Console you prefer. I feel more comfortable with PlayStation, but, I would be willing to play an Xbox. I also choose a console by how many games it has that like, and PlayStation usually wins out. But there are some games on Xbox that I would love to play, but not enough to warrant me to buy one.
The title should be called 2 Things You Never Knew Your PS2 Could Do, that 2 things are using it as a pc and the loading screen (Im excluding that ps2 can stand vertically because we already knew that). This guy obviusly wanted to extend a 2 min. video to 10 minutes.
How about the fact that the PS2 was the first home console to have USB ports. While most people never used them, you could hook up a keyboard, mouse, or even a usb headset to the console and it would work just fine.
I miss my ps2, My dad sold it or gave it to a Friend. I don’t know if I said I was fine with it or not but I sure do miss it and wish that we never did give it away. That ps2 was practically my hole child-childhood ( ?-9 )
I'm guessing one of those things I didn't know my ps2 could do was not recognize a blueray disk as it enters the disc tray. Brilliant thumbnail Baity McBaiterson
All versions of ps2 (original and slim) are backwards compatible and can run ps1 discs, with graphics smoothing and fast disc loading options. Maybe you're thinking of the ps3? Only the early phat ps3 could play ps1 and ps2 discs, but not the slim versions, which lack ps2 emulation but can still play ps1 discs (although some ps2 titles are playable through PSN store.)
PS1 - PLAYSTATION ONE CLASSIC MINI is coming soon! Sony is relaunching this amazing console once again!

@Andy Fennell LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂
I wish my mother was a witch. I had to teach mySELF magick... it took forever! Ugh...
I'm quite surprised they didn't add that you can turn the logo around on the console
Michael Bell i actually came here for that and that makes me sad
What the heck i just read this comment then jumped from my chair to the ps2 and found the logo upside down i tried to turn it and i was like😱😱😱😱😲😲😲😲😲😵😵😵😵😵😵😵😨😨😨😨😨 and i almost swore good thing i was alone😂😂
I didn't know about that for 15 years
I forgot you can do that, when my logo was side ways, I thought my sister broke it
I did that a few years ago with my PS2 Slim.
I loved my ps2, but recently my mom forced me to get rid of it, I didn’t want to but my mom said we didn’t have enough “space” but i had plenty
Damn that hurts. Should not have forced you to do that
Just get one when you leave home and get your own place.
Your mom has problems
One thing you guys left out is that you can also play ps1 games on a ps2
You can also use ps1 memory cards in a ps2 . however you cant save ps2 games on it.
Everyone knows that.
Ps2 cords also work on a ps1 and ps3
because its a standardized cord that was not designed by sony
Yea but everyone knows it can do that, which defeats the point of the video really
Is there really anyone who didn't know that you could place the PS2 on its side? As far as I remember it was mostly advetised that way.
Maybe not, but did you know you could twist the logo on the front to match the console's orientation?
Every elementary schooler probably clicked this because of the thumbnail
People who actually owned the console clicked to find out what they were unaware of. The secrets.. all of the things they his from us hahahah
@@bunnyfluff6579 Ikr I don't get what type of games 4 or 5 year olds like these days

Same here.
Same here.
I have a PS2 Slim since 3 months
isaiah and jonah kluever and I still play on
Me too.
I got mine as a hand-me-down WAY after they were cool, works like new, I have so many good games that probably no one knows about. It's my childhood and I still love it, I'm even still buying new games for it. ^ω^
Edit: although now that I got a Switch it looks much worse in comparison :/
awesome! keep it up! I personally never had the ps2, i had the 1, and the 3 lol so at this rate, i buy one, skip one - so i'm ready for the 5
^_^
For me, I used to have a PS1 and PSP. I still have a PS2 that my brother left for me. And I also have a PS4 (friend gave it to me for free as a hand-me-down)
I played on two PS3s years back.
I got one also
Yeah I also got the PS2 from my dad and whenever he'd come home from a long day at work I would catch him playing on it in my parents room.
Standing your PS2 vertically as an option is literally known by anyone who has ever looked at one in a shop.
darkSorceror It's also known to anyone who saw an add for the ps2 since justabout all of them showed the system standing vertically.
Only thing is that discs are more likely to get scratched by the disc reader if stood vertically.
@@johntracy72 the Xbox 360 had the same issue too, alongside the disk tray wearing out and not opening properly over time due to it standing vertically
BUT! Did you know that the little PS2 symbol on the console can rotate 90 degrees so it can look better standing
Will progressive scan work for all HDtv's?
5 commercials in 10 minutes you’re killing it...
Mr Fiction I didn't get any of them lol

Just like the PS2 was the cheaper DVD player when it came out, so was the PS3 for BluRay when IT came out. Thanks SONY for giving us the cheaper option, which also meant that the big names had to drop their prices to compete. lol
Borgking79 In a business standpoint, they were very generous and the cost to manufacture PS3s was very expensive. Sony practically lost money for every console sold until the release of the PS3 Slim.
@Fantasy Certainly beats many of the few Blu-Ray players that were introduced in 2006, with prices going up more than $1000.
That was intentional marketing. Sony wanted people buying a gaming console, not just a Blu-ray player so they would keep buying games.
The PS3 was 500 dollars when it came out. A Blu-ray player was 200

The last generation to have FULL/complete & tested games on disc! Then DLC happened..
Gran Turismo 4 was another 1080i capable game! I remember that :P
I stil play Gran Turismo
Quick question, how would a ps2 have 1080 capabilities without a hdmi?? im really confused now.
+Justin VanHeusen before hdmi, there were a set of cables called multi component cables that plugged into a ps2 like normal but instead of the standard 3 connectors they had 5. They’re necessary for 1080i on ps2, I’ve been meaning to buy some for gt4
Thanks Adam, that cleared alot of questions up
Final Fantasy XII and, I think, Rogue Galaxy (the latter of which I am currently playing, as well as making a Strategy Guide for, as well as its PS4 re-release) are also HDMI compatible, Adam Ray. I certainly know that the PS4 is so, as is in HD, and it looks even BETTER on the PS4, though the PS2 original port is no slouch, even in the modern era.
Guess I'll wipe the dust off and try a few things

The PS2 is/was the best system put out in the past 20 years. I know the 3, the 4 and other x boxes are more powerful, but no other system in that time span was pushed to its limits like it was.

Time to go buy a PS2
DEADPOOL VS DEATH STROKE SPIDER-MAN I am about to do that
As the ps3 came, i was wondering why no one made advertisings mention that it was the cheapest blu ray player at that time, so they could sell more consols...
Because it's price was 600 dollars at the time
Yep and the price for a blue ray player was 900 - 1,1 k, the ps 3 was much cheaper.
But still PS3 was expensive at that time. Not everyone could buy it for such a price.
the reason was because Sony got super cocky after the ps2 sold super well and very vaguely advertised it with disturbing confusing commercials thinking “well they all liked ps2 so much so they’ll have to buy this.” it sold poorly at first and later on to save it then they started taking marketing it seriously but it definitely gave Xbox 360 a huge head start for the generation
perkypears Nope, they were very expensive to make. Sony lost money for every console sold, so I'd say they were a bit generous though still expensive.
Sly cooper was a great series
@Shyammont i don't know you. but i already like you
@Shyammont same :)

Why do the rendered polygons look so smooth in this video? They look better here than I remember. Especially GTA San Andreas.
And Dark Souls...
Or maybe PCSX2
I always like seeing towers on the PlayStation 2 startup screen because that's what makes it very unique and creative, unlike many other video game consoles. I have the North American NTSC SCPH-30001 PlayStation 2. Good job!

Why dident u mention that the ps icon turns

It sold the most because it is the greatest console of all time

No sorry ps3 is way better
Newer console after ps2 are all worthless. Too many stuff that ruin what makes console gaming great to even list here.

I have a PS2! And I don't want all of the newest consoles. I'm saving up for a PS3, I also want a Wii U and Switch.
Gage Petas xboxs suck playstation is better hands down
It depends on what Console you prefer. I feel more comfortable with PlayStation, but, I would be willing to play an Xbox. I also choose a console by how many games it has that like, and PlayStation usually wins out. But there are some games on Xbox that I would love to play, but not enough to warrant me to buy one.
I'm more into more light hearted games and fanchises like Sonic, Rachet and Clank, Crash Banicoot, UnderTale, Splatoon, Legend of Zelda, and Portal.
A lot of Wii U games are on the switch though
Gage Petas oh stfu you console peasant

How about the fact that the PS2 was the first home console to have USB ports. While most people never used them, you could hook up a keyboard, mouse, or even a usb headset to the console and it would work just fine.

So, one of the things I can do is look at it and see it looked like some scrapped atari console?
your forgot that in early versions of ps2 you could run ps1 games
All versions of ps2 (original and slim) are backwards compatible and can run ps1 discs, with graphics smoothing and fast disc loading options. Maybe you're thinking of the ps3? Only the early phat ps3 could play ps1 and ps2 discs, but not the slim versions, which lack ps2 emulation but can still play ps1 discs (although some ps2 titles are playable through PSN store.)
