Part 1 - Cornwall - August '19 - Stopping part way down at the Ilminster CMC site - arrival and tour

After Dad on a Mission manages to finish work early we make a quick check for availability at the CMC's Ilminster site and hot foot it (staying within legal speed limits of course!) across the country to the Ilminster Caravan and Motorhome Club Site thus breaking our drive to Cornwall into 2 parts. It's Friday evening of the late August bank holiday though so it still takes us ~3 hours instead of the predicted 2h15mins but a wonderful warden forgives us and lets us onto site rather than blocking one of the late night arrivals pitches. Here's the very simple driving route and a quick tour around this small but perfectly formed site.

Caravan Chit Chat I was very pleasantly surprised, lovely site and super easy except for turning back out onto the A303 on an Aug bank holiday w/end! At least we turned left ;-) would save a 4am start..........

That’s one of our local sites. Never been there though. I know that road well! Have you ever stopped at Otter Valley Ice Cream?

Not yet but I really liked the site (other than turning back onto the A303 which was a bit of a nightmare) so I'm sure we'll be back :)

You have to go! Plenty of space for caravan. We got our twin axle in. They don’t mind you using up 3/4 spaces! I can’t wait to see what you got up to in Cornwall. I hope you went to Mount Edgcombe! We watched the Fireworks for there this year.

@@CaravanningwiththeCoxs good tip thanks. We did indeed go (hiked!) to Mt Edgecumbe though didn't quite work out as the boys hoped (I'll ruin the surprise of Pt 8 and say the ice cream shop was closed by the time we got there)!!!!!

☹️☹️ we went to the edgcombe arms on the Thursdays of the fireworks. All 18 of us. Brilliant meal. Really recommended!

Caravanning with the Coxs just checked out where you mean using google street view and I clearly remember driving past that lay-by as I thought what a brilliant place it would be to stop for a picnic now even better so will deffo stop next time :D
