I'm alcoholic. Got the gene without a doubt. It's in my dad's side of the family. I developed liver disease in 2004 and had to go through detox and all that. Horrible withdrawals without medication. Apart from a two-month relapse hell in 2008 I've not drank since. I've said elsewhere...tea and weed for me now:))
Yes its bad when it runs in the family as ive seen some good friends family .It must be bad for ex drunks when everywhere its accepted nearly normal well not the effect .But weekend or dayends couple of pints weekends or 'big bottle whiskie' .Christmas more -(more violence ) new years eve maybe not as much violence as people trying solve their mistakes .ect
Hearing Paul talk about his addiction to heroin has made me feel less ashamed of the struggle I’m having at the moment I’m going to try na and therapy basically I’m going to ask for help now rip Paul thanx
Never be ashamed. It's a disease, not any moral weakness. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Definitely find an NA meeting and if you'd like me to connect you with someone locally who goes and has gone through what you're going through, just let me know - plenty of support out there xxxx
i've been an on off heroin and now crack addict since 97 when i was a daft 17 year old kid....... I looked to Shaun, Paul, Doherty as legends not cos of the music ability but cos they justified me fucking myself up.......I would far FAR rather be a struggling heroin addict than an alcoholic, i've seen what both do, the drink is far far worse RIP Paul, your legacy will live on, thank you for the music it's incredible what you and your kid done, you are missed Thanks for these Angela
You make a good point. Dangerous lifestyle. Shaun with his drugs and Liam Gallagher with fags and booze, heavy influence on a young man in love with music. I became addicted myself, died twice and resuscitated. I respect Paul for what he’s done for recovery world, a lot more than Shaun and Gallagher still got a bad attitude towards cigs and alcohol. Don’t do it kids. It’s great when your straight…yeah
Quite creepy reading this as im same, round down to the year!! Good luck pushing forward mate, keep fighting, its always worth it. Good luck in the future ❤🎉

What a lovely lad Paul was. I never met him but we moved in similar circles before the Mondays started. Angela, you did a great job with this series. Just so very sad watching it now.
@@glisteningstories Best wishes Angela. I hope Paul’s family is comforted by an awareness of the joy his music brought to millions. The Mondays made me feel proud to come from Salford.
Very interesting. I am really enjoying these podcast episodes. As a musician I was always a fan of the Mondays. Great band with an amazing rhythm section.
@@glisteningstories it really is an amazing series. I am watching every episode while I am at work. My old band once played a festival with the Mondays. We were lucky enough to be the band that played right before the Mondays played. It was 2012. Sadly I didn’t meet Paul. But I met Bez. He was hilarious. He was running his political party at the time. The Mondays played great. I still have a poster of the gig and the acts that played. Amazing band with true northern charm. 🙌🏼
ive been into music(enjoyed but unsuccessful) and addiction all my adult life.sometimes ive been clean for upto year but ive always relapsed as ive always done it on my own.ive taken some true inspiration from these tapes.i appreciate the great times ive had in the past, and the people ive met along the way.ive started making music again after a 6 year break and for the first time ive decided to seek some sort of therapy to have another crack at the other side.paul seemed a genuinely decent person,he was lucky to find someone as supportive as you Angela.all the best for the future, joe
Joe that is so good to hear. Comments like this make it all worthwhile. I really hope you get the help you need. We're looking at the idea of setting up some sort of trust in Paul's name to help people who are in the throes of addiction so please keep in touch with us. Sending you my very best wishes ❤️❤️❤️
Angela that must’ve been such a difficult episode for you to discuss with Paul about the cheating and then watching it back since his passing. I was squirming& got a sweat on when you said those fateful words that you “didn’t want your kids brought up in a broken home”I’ve heard that sentence said to me before sadly I didn’t learn myself but so glad the both of you got that chance to discuss &laugh about it! Talk about airing the laundry😢🥺😉 Angela you are an absolute star woman!x So pleased chico is getting on so well and pursuing a career in erb’Botany, talk about perfect fit!¿ God I’m in tears now listening to gaz say “he was my hero” RIP HORSE
Thank you Angela & Family for this wonderful series. Very emotional insight.ive loved every episode. Wish i could of met Paul he seems such a wonderful down to earth person. You should feel very proud of the legacy you have helped maintained. You also come across as incredible to. Much love to you all. Thank you so much.❤
It just keeps giving, truth with a purity. The ups, the many downs but love shines through. Only his (ex) wife could record this. It is a tale worth telling, a lesson for everyone. Addiction is an illness, we MUST show compassion, empathy and understanding.
It's a shame this series is coming to an end. Angela, how about setting up a Paul Ryder trust, and continuing to do interviews about drink and drug abuse, and therapy awareness. Far from being a pro-drugs channel, it would be about support. btw, I saw an interview the other week on youtube, with Paul and Frank Sidebotton, and all Paul said was 'flashbacks'.
That sounds amazing. You could also do a little music festival get hooky and mani and Ian brown involved. You could have a great gig. Wishing you success ❤❤
Hi there, no it's not the end! Next week is another bonus interview episode - this time with Paul's mum Linda then the following week is the grande finale of the main series. But after that there will be plenty more bonus episodes to come!
Ha yea I can see how you thought that but he's more of a Buddhist I think - you know I'm not sure so I'll ask him and let you know! xx@@factoryfactory7142

Didn’t Shaun do Stars in Their Eyes as Johnny Rotten on TFI Friday?
