    I went to Alcoholics Anonymous for years. I stopped going about a year ago I was tired of feeling judged for saying my higher power is Jesus Christ my Lord and savior. I’m still sober and have freed up about 10 extra hours a week to spend at church, in prayer or with my family. I have met others that it works for I guess it’s ok if you want a door knob or a seagull as your higher power. I will always continue to pray for and help others who are struggling with addiction. Amen

      I call 🐴💩 on this comment. I have been to hundreds of AA and NA meetings. No one was EVER reviled for acknowledging Jesus as their higher power, nor were they lokked down upon in the least. On the contrary, addicts are some of the most tolerant and accepting people on the planet. Xtians are NOT persecuted in the US.

    My mom was in "the program." I attended hundreds of meanings by the time i was an adult. Although there is a lot of talk of higher power and serenity, there is no such thing as victory in recovery. Its 100% a cult. The biggest difference is that instead of promising heaven, it promises sobreity. I think it's great that it helps people stay sober, but it's tragic that it keeps people from knowing the one true living God.

    • @janefrericks8488
      @janefrericks8488 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Statistically it doesn't help people stay sober. It's a place people who have already decided on their own to be sober go and give something else the credit

      @janefrericks8488 good point. Like I said I went to meeting for years and I saw people come and go and come and go like a revolving door. Yet they insist that it works if you work it.

      @dmt02459 AA is following a religion made up by Bill and Bob. Most religions are voluntary. The only difference between it and typical cults is that it has no living leaders. But it has its own holy book, it's own creed (though it says it doesn't), it's own prophets, punishment for those that leave (ostracized as being "in denial" that they're a dry drunk with no evidence for this). Challenging the authority of the group and it's doctrine is not tolerated thus it's authoritarian. It victim shames and makes scape goats "if you are disturbed it is your fault". Typical cult automaton stuff

    • @squidvis
      @squidvis 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@dmt02459 How is water wet?
      What could be described as wet is merely a measure of surface tension.
      When water is exposed to a temperature below 32 degrees fahrenheit or 0 degrees celsius it is no longer wet.
      So why would we describe water as wet if the conditions to meet said wetness aren't universal?
      Also on planets much cooler than ours the water never has a chance to achieve this wetness and in fact the majority of all water in the universe is not wet.
      Therefore water is not "wet" at all and "wetness" as a whole seems to be some sort of arbitrary social construct designed by primitive man.

    This is 110% a cult. When I was battling a heroin addiction, at one point I found myself in a rehabilitation center run by this outfit. There were a few alcoholics there, but 8/10 were opiate abusers like myself. They take your phone, seems sensible enough. It gets weird when you learn you're entitled to no books, no reading material, not even THE BIBLE! just the weird, creepy 12 step program story.. this was ALL you were allowed to read. In meetings, as a heroin addict, you were required to introduce yourself not as such, but as a 'cross addicted alcoholic', this was some weird, sacred rule.. it was all bad. By the grace of God I quickly realized I would leave worse off than I arrived and demanded to be let go. They isolate you at this point, still holding your phone, and dump you at the nearest bus station before returning your belongings. It was Jesus Christ, who finally cured me when I turned to him for help. The worst part was hearing these weirdos call God, " good orderly direction," unabashed blasphemy.

    I did not expect this video to come across my feed this morning , and such a gift of freedom it brings after Soooo many years .
    I am 38 years sober and I only have the first 15 years to that ' program '
    * gave .
    after those 15 years if I didn't plant my britches in a church basement three times each day every day I was told I'm not doing my ' program ' , I do not believe I need to sit with people who crab about what they can't do bc they are an alcoholic , and I refuse to engage or even hear gossip as well I don't share private information , mine or anyone else's .
    Indeed I did discover that AA is a cult after 15 years . some did as I have and found a faith based group of other much kinder folks .. we are sober by God's grace and He is my higher power .
    for some reason I carry shame that I've been ostracized and shunned by people I've known for many years , some my close acquaintances for many years .
    I know I did the appropriate thing for my self by choosing to call my higher power God .
    thank you for this video today , it's just what I needed .. God works in mysterious ways .

But, there isn't a disease doing push-ups in the parking lot. Some choose to stay away from it, some choose to go back, some choose to moderate. Ok...this is WEIRD! Just the other day, I walked to the store, and along the way I was thinking about stopping ALL beer drinking for health reasons...That got me thinking about AA...In the past, around 2002, I started going to AA because I was required to do so in order to live in supportive living (I was a recovering heroin addict at the time...Fyi, been clean since August 2003...These people are nuts! I got hit on all the time, and the experience was just terrible. I tried so many different groups, but they were pretty much all the same...I even told my family that AA was definitely a cult... Also, these people are sick...they gossip, take newcomers back out ...Of course, there were friends made at times, but overall, this group IS a cult...

    I spent 2 decades working in live events, music festivals & concerts. They had AA meetings on site in the artist compound which I found very strange & inappropriate. There is a whole world of AA in music production. People were literally drinking & doing drugs a few feet away from the meetings. Also many people in that biz still end up with serious addiction problems & even end up losing their lives sometimes sadly despite the meetings. The very corporate companies in volved run non-profits where they offer "help" to those in the industry & have AA meetings for people which is all it takes to look legit, then then sell tickets to benefit shows for artists who are gone from their own addictions. I know of very few people who got any real help from any of it.

      This is a move towards humility, atheistic or not, a suggestion to step away from self will. "The root cause of our alcoholism was our inability to form a true partnership with another human being" "Self will run riot"

    • @ancientpathstv
      @ancientpathstv  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      I agree that it can help some people get sober, but the recovery rate without the 12 steps is about the same. In spite of this, AA claims it's your only hope to get and stay sober.
      My biggest issue is that addiction is a symptom of a deeper problem that AA ignores - - we need to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ.

    • @TylerDavis-d9m
      @TylerDavis-d9m 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ancientpathstv i agree with that 100% I'm on probation and in a sober house so I have mandatory meetings, luckily they don't force me to have a sponsor or work the steps and acknowledge that other routes work just as well and often for just as many people. Groups vary as drastically as ideologies and denominations, and many of the people I'm around in recovery claim Jesus alone saved them and the meetings are just a check in/reminder to stay on track. But several times in the past I've tried and this isn't the normal standard. I've had many groups and many people leave bad tastes in my mouth from their zealot borderline nazi beliefs. They usually seem like they're miserable and often times relapse. No surprise there. Some people find Jesus through anonymous groups, so it can't be all bad. It is, after all, a spiritual disease.

It's nightmarish stuff where the shiny people are upstairs, the addicts in the basement stuck in every manner of vice besides being drunk literally going around in circles for years with no word from those upstairs which would be a word end their endless circling around ie truth that actually sets you free instead confines you to the rest of your life to a church basement of filth. It's horrendous for church buildings to be used for AA as it would be for Freemason meetings or similar. Everyone is compromised. Children from the church are put at risk. The church ignoring the mission field in its own basement is problematic. They probably think AA helps people.

    I participate in the program. I'm an atheist, but there are other parts of the program I find valuable, mainly the fellowship. Can I stay sober without the group? Maybe. But I like the meetings and feel they help me stay sober. Hearing others reminds me I'm not alone. Also, the book has a lot of value, especially the chapter "The Doctors Opinion".

      @ancientpathstv Thanks, I'll check it out. To me, the chapter really describes what happens to me when I drink. It's happened so many times in my life. When I read that chapter, I thought, "Yes! That's what happens to me." I've done tons of research, and nothing nailed my experience like that did. I also see many others go through the exact same thing.

      @bradenglass4753 im no AA apologist but been to enough meetings to know that they dont suggest a door knob as a higher power. Most people joke about it and tell you not to do that. And I did watch the whole video and your whole argument hinges on the fact thst they tried distance themselves from the Oxford group. Your video is a perfect example of why the early group decided to do that. Because they knew that non-critical thinkers from the church would persecute them. I don't know who died and left you Arbiter of Truth. I don't recall reading anything about it in the Bible.
