I’ve been binge watching these Group C and Group B videos for the past few days. When I was a kid in the 80’s/90’s they rarely broadcasted any of these races here in NY. Watching all the great drivers and imo the most beautiful race cars ever produced is just fantastic. I’m in awe watching all the great footage on TH-cam.
I got to see most of these cars when my brother and I went to the 24 Hours of Daytona. The SilkCut and Castrol Jags were one of my favorites. We would camp out in the infield where they came out of the bus stop chicane and went onto the banking in turn 3. I could tell how good of a lap it was by hearing the shift points going around the banking towards turn 4!! Ahhh memories!! Miss you Bro!!
That must be something to cherish. I'm a bit moved by the fact that our video brought back such fond memories for you. Thank you for sharing that story!
when i first played gt5, and i first saw the minolta toyota 88cv, i fell in love with group c, puegot 905, mazda 787b, sauber mercedes c9, jaguar xjr 9, nissan r89c all of them fantastic cars, and fall of group c is still one of the saddest story of motorsport
man i've had one of the worst days ever, and at 00:54 am this video made me forget everything and just smile for a bit, thanks for sharing this footage
Fantastic! Thank you. I thought they only ever ran the Mazda on exhibition runs, but glad to see it here running hard on track. Also love the C-9 and the Jags as well as the Peugeot! Well done video.
Aaaah, music to my ears! I so miss group C with the beautiful, aerodynamic bodies that still have aesthetic beauty to them, unlike the ugly sign boards on them. We will never see the likes of these racers again. Soon it will be electric cars and their quiet.
Just watching the first minute was better than a lot of other channels whole video!!! Thank you for not adding any stupid, stupid music, you too appreciate the motor musica.
As a patriot I love the Big Jags and their V12 scream but the noise I like best is the Merc rumble, like a NASCAR which attended a Swiss finishing school. Mellow but with that distinct 90' V8 burble mixed in with some turbo whine.
@@IamSnehan I think that was the great part about group C. Different cars with different power plants. I hate how everything is almost identical now. And don’t get me started on the stupid ass electric cars. Who wants to watch that? They make almost no sound at all. Part of racing is hearing the car and feeling that rumble.
@@yankees29 I fucking feel you, man. Racing has indeed started feeling generic compared to older days with over-regulated and poorly executed shit like BoP, and electric series that have no fucking soul to them.
@@IamSnehan I’m American but I hate NASCAR. I was always super interested in rally since back in the 80’s when they would show clips of some races on ESPN sometimes. Also I had a buddy that had a Volkswagen Corrado with the VR-6. I don’t know much about cars but I helped him install some custom parts he machined himself. That car was a beast. Eventually he put a supercharger on it with 18 pounds of boost. It was like a rocket ship.🤣 I with him when he raced a Corvette and smoked the guy. He made us pull over and insisted my buddy show him what was under the hood. Basically I was always in awe of the fast European sports cars. Well at least we have these videos we can watch on TH-cam of when racing was really racing.
In 1988, a specially prepared Peugeot race car set the fastest speed on the un-chicaned Mulsanne Straight (breaking the 17-year-old record set by a Porsche 917L in 1971). After that, two chicanes were added (in my personal opinion, mainly to keep anyone from breaking the French race car's speed record; national pride ... sigh).
@@IamSnehan I don't know which model of Peugeot it was. I just know it was a Peugeot race car and it was designed especially to beat (and keep) the top speed record on the Mulsanne Straight (because soon after, two chicanes were added -- supposedly for safety reasons -- I think that they were added to prevent anyone from breaking the Peugeot's speed record). Of course, the lap records have been falling, a few years ago to Porsche, and currently, I think, to Toyota. So keeping speeds down on the Mulsanne Straight were a lesson in futility (and, no doubt, an expression of French national pride, since Le Mans is a French race track and the French should be the best there in their eyes).
Since the "From The Archives" series looks back at the best of what we filmed in the past 6 years a lot of these clips have been used in older videos of ours, so what you are saying might very well be correct! This is the first time, however, we really brought thousands of hours of footage together to form one big video about one specific topic, like Group C in this case :)
Technically, the car that produces the lowest frequencies at the highest amplitude is the loudest, which are probably the Mercedes C9/C11 with their huge V8s. But human hearing means we perceive higher pitched sounds as louder, so the 787B/767B would be the "loudest". It should be noted that turbos do suppress sound, so NA engines would be even louder. Idk most of the cars in this video, so it's probably the car with the big wing on back that is super loud, but has a NA engine.
In the first few weeks, with the lockdown in our country due to the coronavirus, we were all home and were able to monitor everything as the premiere was playing. However, in the past few weeks, things have been starting up again and we might have other responibilities when the video goes live. Because of that, a premiere is harder to do and we chose to just let the video go live. We have been doing it like that for the past few videos as well :)
"Which car sounds the best?"
"Definitely the one with 4 tires and a wing!"
The one which has the most unique engine
Man the thunder from the Merc V8 is unmistakable.
The thunder of hell. 😎
5.0 liter m119 turbo v8 from hell
Well you need to here the Aston Martin AMR1 then
Exaclty ! Or the 797b that sounds like a 600cc on steroids 😎 🤤
I was once standing beside the car when they started it up. Now I know how an earthquake must feel like…..
A golden age of days gone by. Same with Group B

Yes! Group C!
My favorite racing cars of all times, unmatchable ! 😍

They wont

For me the sound of the Mazda 787B is absolutely amazing!
It's too high pitch
Group C. Some of the best sounding cars and they make it hard to ignore that 787B. Can’t look past that screaming 4 Rotor.
This C9 Mercedes’ is from another World what a Beast
im glad these dont just sit in a museum!
Rock on fellow dead head/ gear head! 😂
Man I miss this era. The cars were beautiful and sounded fantastic. Thank you for this video!
Starting to build a group c replica at the moment. Can't wait to race it!

Everyone is Gangsta until the C11 roars around the corner
That is very true! That car is a beast
I would say to Aston Martin AMR-1
@@kierenboimufc5940 yep! That's another awesome beast!
When you think they all sounds equally amazing and a Mazda passing by.
More like when a Mercedes passes by.

The electro cars are soooo ghey. They are destroying racing as we knew it!

The Mazda sounds awesome, but the Merc sounds like the god of thunder.
Awesome
Época de ouro do automobilismo.
Thanks for this video again... 👍❗🏎️🏁🤓🇨🇵
I ran out of hand lotion and paper towels
Now imagine these with more power, more revs and where the gearshifts dont take 15 seconds
They should really do that and bring those back to Le Mans lol
"Golden Era" :")
1:45 judd power!!!!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Sharp looking cars
Old times always better than today.
Thanks for this videos friend, i really apreciatte ;)
Glad you enjoyed watching!
How did they change the back tire for that purple jag if it had wheel covers or did it flip up??
They could take those off, I think they're only held in place by a few screws!
@@Retroschaft They have 3-4 Zeus nuts holding them on, that are removed with a 1/4 turn.
35:09 😍 gorgeous
Wouldn't mind seeing that in my own garage ;)
I'm still a simple guy. I see Mazda rotary, I click like. It's not difficult, folks.
For me, I see the Sauber C11, I click like. I'm more of a V8 fan

What engine is in the Momo car? It almost sounds like an American pushrod V8.
That is a 1992 Gebhardt C91 with a Cosworth DFR V8. It's naturally aspirated and has around 580bhp. Really cool car!
