- Portals! Every offroader and overlander loves them, but very few actually have them. In this video we install the first every set of portals designed and produced by 74 WELD for a brand new 2023 Toyota Tacoma with only 78 miles! These are still in development and changes are still being made but man is this a cool setup with crazy ground clearance.

Alright! Keep pushing Stellar Built. I’m watching you guys and I appreciate you guys sharing your work, experience and products with the Tacoma community. Thanks too 74 Weld.
Awesome!Great job guys! Love your channel!
74Weld has been advertising these for a little bit now. They're $20K.
The average person isn't going to purchase it.
Nice system but yeah, way too expensive.
Werewolf portals for 15,000
Outstanding! And what a nice crew!
SICK!!! completely rad!
That kit is amazing.. First time seeing anything like this... ALSO 1st time on the channel.. Love the vibe here!
I love how their is zero half assing. And holy im in love with that truck😍😍
Great vid. The truck looks sick and it’s crazy how well those tires fit… makes me jealous. I recently listened the the 74Weld interview on the Snail Trail 4x4 podcast and it was super informative. Quinn, the owner of 74Weld, covers a ton of information about their portals and all the design, engineering, and testing that has gone into them. They’re a really badass product.
Thanks. That was a fun conversation
Very nice kit👌
That looks wicked!!
Very cool. I had seen these on a Bronco. Also, the lift you get from them is lifting everything which gives you better ground clearance than a lift kit of the same height. A little more expensive than I thought.
Now you're thinking with portals!
That black 2nd gen in the beginning is sick
Clearance for days!
The development of new stuff for these trucks has been amazing over the years!
Hope to see a similar setup for the 5th Gen 4runner
What a time to be alive.
And be broke. Wish I had partners to help out with goodies. My partner tells me no, it’s too expensive.
Werewolf already has a portal kit that will work. Should be the same as their FJ or Prado kits.
This is solid!
😊 spectacular work on the toyota tacoma its distance from the ground the work of relocating the bases I hope at some point to do a job like this on my tacoma excellent video thanks friends
Awesomeness!!
Miss hanging out, love seeing you grow the brand. Its no surprise you guys are killing it.
Cheers mate 🤝
Rad as always boys
That truck looks great! Would love to see how 35's fit and whether you can avoid the body mount chop by using them.
I would like to know aswell
Very nice!
Hell Yeah... looks like it can dance
My Frontier needs these.
Beautiful. They should come stock/standard with those portals.
Tacoma 🌮 looks like a beast...😎💯🇺🇸
About time!
I think you guys should do a rear diff anti-wrap bar I imagine the stock Tacoma leaf springs and going to twist up and probably break over time
Beautiful kit! Would 35's fit without a CMC or other trimming?
Good lord at the orange peel down the side of that truck!! Them portals though. That is SICK!
Are there any concerns about axle wrap on those leaf springs? Might need a bar back there because of the portals' increased leverage?
How the rear axle wrap? Seems like it would put a lot of extra leverage on the leaf springs.
Looks so good. 👍 dream truck right there although I agree a straight axle up front would finish it.
Sweet!
Would be interested in knowing how well the rack n pinion would hold up long term due to the 37s
I would like to see this with 33" tires to see how few mods would be necessary.
Pretty sick! Curious to know what the tightest offset 17 or 18" wheel would fit, and if they'll be available for the 4runner?
We run a method 17x8.5 +35. Yes we have them for a 4Runner
@@74weldCan it be run with a 5th gen 4Runner with KDSS?
That's how all of them should come.
I want to try these on a 5th Gen 4Runner!!
I can't wait to see this truck offroad! I'm curious how strong those portal gears are under extreme conditions.
We raced them at KOH and have a year and a half with this same gear and bearing package in Jeeps with V8’s and 40’s. They are tested…
Portals are not a new concept. They are perfectly fine, if not stronger than normal OR components.
They are pretty strong in solid axles but a weaklink in independent suspensions.
@@evoemperor3776 Why are they a weak link in IFS?
No clue why a portal would be a weak link in a IFS??? Most of our experience is building them for IFS with very good success
O M G ...I would have THAT ! ! !
Any video of it flexed out or pictures how the tires clear full lock and full tuck?
Check out 74 weld TH-cam channel for more vids
Deletes the sway bar right? I don't think that was mentioned when talking about the handling post install
What size are those 37s in width? That being a 7 inch wide wheel is why i ask cause thats what i have and want to get 285s on them. Right now i have 275s.
Holy sht that thing is badass!
you had me a MADE IN AMERICA
I bet the full production units will be close to 30k.
After seeing 74Weld Portals compete at KOH, and talking to them and seeing their products up close, I have zero concerns with the quality of their products.
Nope. 20K and we are working on getting that down
@@74weld That’s impressive!
So it looks like you got the TRD OR Premium trim.
I put 35’s on my 4runner and I had to do some cutting that was the fun part 😂
You guys know where I can get portals for a Mazda b-series ranger?
Thats awesome. Show us a comparison to a lifted taco on 37s and compare the diff clearance ❤
Since a traditional lift raises the frame from the axles, it does not change the diff clearance. The step up in tire size does that. So if both vehicles are on the same size tire, the diff clearance difference will be the amount of lift from the portal itself which is 3.88" The fact that the entire belly side of the truck gets an extra nearly 4" of clearance is the most appealing benefits of portals.
@@stellarbuilt oh nice thanks for the info. Really cool
@@stellarbuiltwell it's more like 7 inches when you add in the natural 3inch lift from 37s from the factory 31-32 inch tires. Your going from 9-10 inches of full belly clearance to almost 17, hence why you guys showed it being able to clear a 5 gallon bucket. If this setup was closer to 10k I'd be all over it, but 20 is a hard pill.
What’s the MPG ?
Ayee Apache
what does this package cost installed?
Props to whoever is editing lol
How different could have been the clearance issue, with 35" tires?
Much easier to fit 35s. Likely no trimming or cutting required.
Did you guys beef up those cam tabs?
Not yet. But will eventually address that along w steering
Are they 1-1 gearing?
Seems like if the tire size was determined you could re- gear inside of the planetary units instead of doing a full regear..
They are a 1.22 gear reduction, designed to work with a 35-37" tire
Do guys sell the kits?
BARADAHHHH i got my 2023 TRD Offroad kitted out with everything for $39k just 3 Months ago 😂. Dat build with 37s is nutzooo
Wild how many modifications it takes to run 37's
Those portals are amazing. Learned all about them on the Snail Trail podcast the other day.
They are truly beautiful works of engineered art!
Portals have been around for awhile, they are more popular in Europe and Russia. Mercedes has been using them on their G wagons for years.
What does a 2020 4runner look like with these portals and 35s. Can't purchase until I see what it would look like.
Stay tuned for part 2
Didn't know I had a puddle slapping fetish until today. Thanks!
Fk yeah!! Portals FTW! 🤘
Is this a kit they are offering and how much? This is amazing lol
Perfect for tall skinny tires
You’re running 12.5” 37’s on 7” wheels???
Would love to see Portals on an LX570
Where do I get mine?
Great job .
$20k
Bad Ass Taco build!!!does 74Weld make portals for 5th gen 4Runner? Thanks
Yes
Yes, kit for 4runner coming
Wonder if u guys upgraded that front left inner axel bearing
You mean clamshell bushing?
Needle bearing, if that's the other name to it then yes?
Yeah and to get 4 portals are as much as the truck, then installing charge!
Weird FYI the bald eagle sound that is used in the overlay is actually a Red-Tailed Hawk call. The Red-Tailed Hawk call is what is usually used when the Bald Eagle sound is used. In real life, they sound crazy.
Will this conversion kit affect craw control?
It shouldn't in so far that crawl control uses brake vectoring to control tire spin and torque. Since it keeps the factory ABS it should keep all crawl control functions. The unsprung mass is where your going to see issues on the front axles and tie rods.
Damn. I put my wife’s Jeep 4XE on 37s stock and they rubbed a tiny bit, so I out a 2” puck lift on it. Oh and it has disc brakes in the rear lol
wonder how much this whole thing cost would be nice to do
Bought my Tacoma online during Covid craziness and thought it was a 4x4 … had trd, and looked like a 4x4 but wasn’t 🤦🏻♂️ oh well… signed the papers while it was in the shop getting a small dent repair… got it a week later and was surprised to see no 4x4 button inside 😂😂😂 I was like ghaaaaaa wtf!
Awesome video, cool system... 'Murican engineering! Likely need steering rack upgrade for reliable life expectancy on 37s, so true cost is quite a bit more than 20k for kit plus body mount mod, and trim/tuck. Dat stance tho
Can't wait to see it flexed on the trails
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Im not a Rich but This Video said Save up for this Thanks for Sharing 😂😂😂
I wonder how the steering rack and tie rods will do with heavy wheeling with the extra weight on the wheel. I know they are already pretty weak with bigger tires. Good stuff though I can't wait to see more tested in the dirt.
I wouldn’t trust it…which is why we are going to be building a billet rack and forging our own tie rods 😮
@@74weld Hell yeah, can't wait to see it. Let me know if you need any real world testing done. 😉
Man I'm so jealous that Toyota and jeep get all the cool off-road gear. And going from like a 30" tire to a 37" is RIDICULOUS!!!
Great stuff, but I will have to do 37's the old fashioned way, lift kit, 5.29's and a lot of cutting.....lol
Same.. it took a lot for 37’s on my tundra with a level but im thinking i can fit bigger 😗
No shame in that man.
Bonkers
The first!
Can I send my 2017 SR 4x2 DCSB to you guys to SAS w/Atlas 3-spd and portals (plus an upgraded steering system)
Will the portals fit a 9” rear (like TAV installs on Stage 3)?
Send it over.
Shoot us an email sales@stellarbuilt.com
@@stellarbuilt let me win the Lotto first 🤣🤣🤣
I’ll have to save up for a few years. I’ll hit you up in a while.
11:15 Was that a New Zealdand accent I hear?
Ah-Z boy!
my other question would be can it be used for daily use and to be able to walk on freeways too
Absolutely. 74 Weld puts these through the most vigorous testing available on planet Earth. If you would like to know the nitty gritty specs of these as well as some insight into the company that produces them, I highly recommend watching the video attached when you have a moment to kick back and tune in th-cam.com/video/osEautx-Y4E/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=74Weld
Why have the rear caliper so low? Looks like it would hold dirt/water when deep river crossing or snow/rain
Pretty bad ass! Too bad most folks won’t swing 20k. Get it to 10k maybe!
Mostly for packaging and mounting reasons. Final version will be using a different caliper.
My 2014 I bought new and it’s a full on Lemon POS
Just like the dealerShit that I bought it from.
I’ve got 8 Lug wheels on it now
Dang this is sick but it makes Marlins RCLT kit look affordable.
😮you said" reduction in gearing, they drive better when re geared." I agree however, you finished the statement with "You'll get the benefit of just bolting on the portals and get the difference of better gearing." Say what!? Lol I knew what ya meant but thats what customers are gonna hold ya to that. The kit looks sick!
Correct, the kit has a 1.22 gear reduction within the portals.
@@stellarbuilt idk how I missed that. Ty
Mega Like
Tacomog? Unicoma? Very niiice
Lifted trucks already tipsy. Would be great for a trail rig but I don't think I could commit to a portal setup on any overlander - especially with ASB removed.
Abs is fully functional
Have you guys done any Ford Ranger builds or are you guys stuck on the gutless v6 taco’s?
I want one…
You should have measured Ground Clearance stock and then with portals on stock tires. Traction, gearing and clearance, is what's needed for off road. Running the stock tires and gearing is about all you would need. 25 grand for parts, plus the tires and wheels. Labor, your in for 30 grand. Show us a comparison of stock tires and wheels 🛞 then 37 with new gearing, another 2,500 for the gears. 74 weld has great products, check out who runs them at King of the Hammers.
We’ll be doing a thorough test on the Rubicon
Stock clearance on the 31-32" tires is about 9 1/2". The portals add about 4" taking you to 13-14" then the tires that they put on give about another 3" taking it to almost 17" of clearance on the diffs which is amazing. Thats how they show it clearing the 5 gallon bucket in that one pic near the end. Those are usually about 15" tall and it had a couple inches over that.
This is a rad set up, but they cost as much as I paid for my 2.5 gen TRD OR. That's pretty brutal.
They aren't cheap, but nice things never are. Considering the machine hours + man hours + materials to make these, it makes sense.
@@stellarbuilt I'm not necessarily saying it's overpriced, it's just flat out crazy expensive. I imagine the cost will stay stable just because of the time and material cost to produce them combined with the small customer base at the price. Trust me, if I was rich I'd drop the cash on it, not trying to dog on it.
I'd buy it if it was 10k. Hard to justify spending 20k when you can literally buy a side by side for that kind of money, a designated off road machine.
If I had to money I'd drop it in a heartbeat though.
74 weld sholud team up wth TRD and and sell a factory portal option.
