and this is exactly the stress free, stupid content we're here for, history paired with VROOOM and jamble driving about making bad jokes
It's perfect
Finally, more gooder content
@@montruo000000007 It's weller content, I think.
less VROOOOM and more SWOOOOO

ah yes, the era of "what do you mean a cushion on the gastank isnt a seat?"
"I'm sitting on it, aren't I?"
A classic Jimmy Broadbent video, lapping the nordschleife, love it
A classic Jimmy Broadbent video; THICCCC brit pounds vacuum cleaner in germany
And crashing at Tiergarten, very classic indeed
Thank you for featuring our mod Jimmy ! It's always fun to see how peoples react to driving this car :)
There is a physics update coming in a few weeks, for the Renault (and also for the Nardi Bisiluro).
We reworked the rear suspensions and tyres data. It will be easier to throw it in the turns and will suffer less from terminal understeer.
This video cetainly made me seek the mod out. Really enjoyed the Bisiluro, can't wait to try this one out!
The Bisiluro is fun, though I noticed the steering on it is slightly off center. If I center my steering wheel, it leans slightly to the left.
@@Caddynars It is ? Will recheck that for the update. Thx for the report.
15:48 "It's like a big turbo"
My brother, it is literally a turbine
Make the turbo so big that you don't need the rest of the engine anymore
@@cricri7066 Supra owners wet dream.
A bunch of these racing around one of the big banked ovals in the world would probably be a lot of fun.
40 of these at Talladega Superspeedway.
Let's make it happen.
The Shed cries as its master has done another hot lap at the Nordshcleife without it.
In the 1970s someone took a gas-turbine-powered car to La Man's 24-hour race - when they had a race of champions/historic race someone raced it again - one big issue they found was it was a sitting duck when the yellow flags came out and then went to green - it took them half a lap or even more to get up to speed again
I think McLaren also dabbled with a turbine powered indycar
Rover-BRM. It still exists today
Wikipedia says one of the designers of this car died in the 90s. The other one unknown, but assuming he’s no longer with us. Really cool to see their work live on in a way they’d never have imagined.
Fun fact: my Great Great Uncle Ozzie was one of the people to retrieve Babs from Pendine Sands years later after it had been buried. My nan told me this and i don't think she quite realised the significance of that car/land speed record/Parry Thomas
Man, we've come a long way from the yellow-ball-behind-the-brake-pedal days.
John moza references always make me laugh
This is the Etoile Filante !
(pronounciation guide : hay-twahl fee-lante)
First time I see it in any simulation, always loved this car. By the way, the gas turbine in it (Turbomeca Turmo) was also used in the Puma helicopter, then in the TGV001 train prototype (before the TGV went electric), as well as several turbotrains that went into service.
How the hell did they boost this engine from 270hp in the little Renault to 1500hp in the Puma and Frelon.
@@kilianortmann9979 the one in the Etoile Filante was the first version (Turmo I) with very early technology, it was then improved with a twin-stage and higher pressure ratio for the Turmo II (560kw) in the 60s, and the Puma has two Turmo IIIs at 1150kw each.
It was then adapted for turbotrains.
If it's a turbo-shaft wouldn't it still need normal gearing and clutch?
@@malinmac1 I don't know the specifics of the transmission for this car, if anyone has info that would be nice !
1) 200mph in a 70 year old Renault? That's brave.
2) Imagine Monza T1 with 20 of these.
Jimmy!!! You should see how fast Hunt's title winning McLaren laps the Nords. Or maybe how fast Lauda's car laps the old nordschliefe. Or maybe that six wheeled Tyrell.
"Through Miss-Hit-Miss, I don't know what to do here" - the clue's in the name, Jimmer
Should try putting some modern tires under that turbine goblin, see what she can really do then.
How to Drive Turbine Cars:
1) Shift into first gear
2) Place brick of lead on throttle
3) Pray to God the brakes don't fail if you need them.
Nurburgring reverse lap challenge with the car of your choice.. GO!
So I actually know the guy in the "no steering wheel" bit at the beginning. His name is Jeff Diehl and he's a nitro funny car driver. Really chill dude and mainly only does west coast NHRA races with a few mid-west events if he can.
Insane how he was able to keep the car controlled in that clip.
Keep up the amazing work Jimmy! Been watching from the shed and very happy to see you racing GT cars.
Miss this content Jimmer! Love seeing you enjoying your passion!
Fantastic video as always jimmy!
This thing is WILD and this kind of video is exactly why I subbed to you! More nords laps in cars you find cool and interesting please (and irl stuff obviously)
Love this type of content
That Stroll diss
Speaking about turbines, you should definitely try the Howmet TX, the first Turbine powered CanAm car, that was a true monster. Unfortunately, due to very costing development and reliability issues, the project got buried, but I guarantee it's worth a try.
Jimmer I just wanted to say your the only channel that makes me laugh and be happy. ROAD TO 1 MILLION!
Old skool cars really are a proper masterpiece, including those who were brave (or dumb depending on how you want to view it) enough to drive them
Big shoutout to editor! 🙌 Stellar work
"Let's see how fast a gas turbine land speed record car from the 1950s can lap the Nordschleife". This, ladies and gentleman, is Jimmy Broadbent.
Classic Jimmy entertainment!
Love my Moza R9 setup!!!
Imagine these on a NASCAR track, that would probably be entertaining
I just tried that in the rain at Monza yesterday :D. It's an experience.
Jimmy Broadbent: The man with the answer to a question nobody asked. (and we love him for it)
when you said making my way the first word I thought of after was Downtown and now that song is stuck in my head, thanks Jimmer lol
new era of Jimmy Broadbent?
Like the new editing
Hahaha the Lance Stroll shade! :D
Scarf and Goggles is a criminally underappreciated youtube channel that uploads some really cool documentaries on all the insane stories in land and water speed records. Definitely worth checking out if you're into that stuff.
Someone else who finally gets that channel ❤
Seeing quirky cars like this raced around the ring makes me wonder if the race for mental health needs a more meme-ish companion race. Maybe around one hour of wacky cars around some F1 ciruit
This video made me realize I would happily watch a boring documentary with Jimmy's voice-over. The world is missing a talent.
A Nords video?! Always love videos with this track!
Oh man time to sit on toilet and watch this banger
Reminds me of driving the bus the level of planning on how you're going to brake when there's a frail 80 year old woman standing in the aisle is unbelievable
Jimmy Broadbent - More fun than a General Election.
I knew as soon as he passed the bridge on the second lap and kept it pegged that he was going to rocket into the wall. Back when I played Project Cars 2 and drove the turbine indy car, you had to pretty much go on the brakes right around the crest and the bridge, and it could still be uncomfortably close.
Ha epic! Not a car I thought I'd ever see doing a Nords lap!
Vintage AC which is a quite well sized racing league actually did a race with those machines on the old 1966 spa which was very weird but extremely fun.
Big up John Moza
One of my favourite mods, only a matter of time before jimmy tried it.
i love how the roll cage on those old cars was just the drivers head.
Amazing! Honestly! Next time I would love to see you ride a T-Rex. I guess this is possible in AC ;)
A full online race in these would be something amazing xD
The absolute nerve not to have a pedal cam and robbing us of 15 minutes of twinkle-toes.
does the editor have a spotify playlist? great background music :)
That lap time was honestly pretty surprising
Really like how the design of this flat bullet predates the design of Prototype racecars we have today.
There were way more turbine-powered race cars than one might expect, like the Lotus 56, STP-Paxton Turbocar, and one that Shelby made which never raced.
You need to make “How fast can the *insert car* lap the nordschleife?” Into a series jimmer 🙏
The Myth The Man The Broadbent
2:09 cabo fiba!!! :D
Would love to see you try this series with more oddball cars or unique cars kinda like the Dodge little red express or the ram SRT 10 or potentially the Cummins diesel special Indy cars
That would be fun.
@@BubbaBearGames don’t worry I’m not picky when I say more oddball and unique cars. I don’t just mean the ones that I listed those were just the first that came to mind when thinking of a good example
under 1 minute is crazy!!
i miss your nordschleife hotlaps
Nordschleife in weird cars is finally back HECK YEAAAAAAAAAAAA
9:00 the situation combined with the soundeffect literly made me laugh for 5 minutes straight and repeating the scene like 15 times xD
18:28 the "this is the Kevin Estre line" was dark mate
if you wanna make kind of a series out of this you should try to lap the Mercedes-Benz T80 around the nordschleife, if there's a mod for this.
I kind of love the craziness of '50s and '60s turbine racers. Just the optimism of the jet age. Only motorsport these things stuck in was boat racing.
And of course maybe plane racing.
But it makes sense why they only stuck in boat and plane racing. Need to stay at high rpm for power.
@@callummclachlan4771 they don't really race turboprops in air racing that I know of, other than in the Sport class and point-to-point races. Most of the race planes you think of - pylon racers and the Red Bull aerobatic time trial thingy I don't know whether or not they do anymore - use piston engines, while there IS a pure jet (no propeller) class in what was once the Reno Air Races. But, yes, you can throw either a plane or (at least) a Hydroplane-type race boat into a corner at full - or at least constant - power and never lift, given the way the courses and vehicles are designed.
Doesn't look like anyone's mentioned the Howmet TX or the Rover BRM Gas Turbine cars. No mods for them as I can see but they're worth a look just to hear them run at Classic Lemans and the like!
I'd love to see a Chrysler Patriot mod. Turbine power *AND* a flywheel hybrid system!
0:05 rip bro got send
I think I saw that car at the museum at Le Mans back in '06.
i've always loved Trubine powered cars!!! Hopefully we will see a lap of the Chrysler Turbine car once it comes out! (Historic Sim Studios is working on it :) )
i want a sim rig so bad, oh my god you have no idea
Hell yeah
good video.
Its funny 😆 how the guys head is the roll cage
"this is a good line" 😑
😂🤣😂
car dont go vroom... car go zoom
There was the Lotus 56, a turbine powered race car, so if there's a mod for that, well could see how that goes. Granted given its from the 60s not sure how different it would be. Also I have how the car on cornering is like "Hit the apex? But the apex never did anything to me".
I assume this was suggested before but I think it would be really cool to see Jimmy trying out the Chaparral 2J around the Nordschleife if he can find a mod for it
Gas Turbine cars are so goddamn cool
More of these please! I feel like I'm watching a Shed video!!🏚
Missed opportunity to drive this with the new Moza flight stick
Would be awesome if you made a laptime list of all the cars you raced around Nordschleife, like top gear but for sim instead.
Land speed record cars aren't really cars, they're planes that have been convinced to stay on the ground.
For some reason, I would really like to see this car engineer's reaction to this video.
This thing with f1 tires? That would be interesting...
🤣
you need to take that thing around the daytona oval that would be insane!
Kevin Estre line ftw 😂
Real man’s turbo lag
Project Cars 2 has a Lotus 56 GP car. Good fun.
I did see an office chair mod for AC, haven't tried it yet but it looks proper jokes
The 2023 Kévin estre line 💀
I'd love to see this car with modern F1 slicks, I wonder how good this car could potentially be
Send it around the Avus.
Imagine these in a current day racing series. Modern brakes and tires and a roll cage maybe some downforce instead of slipforce. Would be so interesting but ig in wrecks there would be a problem w the turbine flying out the car and taking off in a random direction
moza give this man a new racing seat, his one is gettin a bit crusty haha
Campbell-Railton Blue Bird next :D
it looks like the villan speed racer cars
