i did the airbox mod... but i have found that you need to cut the flap on the front of the box as well for it to be effective. because the flap blocks the air ducts on the frame.... thanks coppperdawg you rock dude...
I just bought a FZ1 yamaha year 2005 well maintained, excellent motorcycle (acabei de comprar uma FZ1 yamaha ano 2005 bem conservada ,excelente motocicleta)
Glad to see you are posting videos again. This has got to be one of the best video tutorials for the PC! Looking forward to seeing more videos! Keep them coming!
@chrissme333 , When I shot most of the shop footage shown in this sequence, it was before/during the flies mod since I did these mods together. Its just that when I need a certain shot to show the detail I am talking about, I use the best shot I have for that scene. In any case my bike still has the smaller flies.
@bfegraeus I do show gutting the cat and adding a slip on in another video but I did not show any further mods to the stock exhaust. I do know there are some guys that gut the second cat in the stock muffler but I have no plans to reinstall the stocker.
5:04 Blocking the AIS BTW, just wondering, what would happen if you didn't seal the airbox opening (at the end of the explanation on how to block the AIS)?
Nice video! I made pretty much all the mods available for the FZ1 (cat gut, Yoshi slip on, PC3, Airbox, filter mod, and Patrick's flies (Thanks dude!) I also blocked off the AIS by putting a bolt with a rubber cap on top. One thing, if you have a Japanes spec FZ1 like me, you will have to do one other big mod. Either change the ECU to a US spec (best solution) or get the magical racing speed limiter remover. Jp bike has been detuned :(
@@hards7yl3 Wow, its been 10 years since I had this bike! I used a power commander to change the bikes tuning. These days there should be other options. In my last bike (Ducati Diavel) I used a lap top connected to the ecu and I flashed different tunes onto the ecu directly. I would try to find something like that.
Depending on what mods you do, the FZ1 can go from around 123 HP stock, to 150HP or above. Airbox, PC3, Flies, Slip-on - or better yet a full exhaust - with a proper map and your gonna be in that range
I have a question, what hose must be blocked on the right side of the bike....I have blocked the hose on the back side of the air box....I hope the poping sound is gone now?! It's an vibration between the 4500 and 6000 rpm.
I'm wanting to do the Lars air box mod, install my Black Path block off plates and also remove my catalytic converter while I rebuild my 2011 Yamaha FZ8. I have a coffman's shorty slip-on and a K&N race filter. Should I do the mods on my FZ8 before I get the ecu flashed and power commander installed later down the road??? I like your video's and wish you had more on the FZ models. The way you present yourself and the knowledge is very nice and your voice helps me zone in more. ha
With a slip on, stock header with cat, modded flies, and a bmc filter would a pc be necessary? Would the bike be running too lean. I want to do some to get more air since I am at altitude but also don't want to drop the money right now for the pc.
Thanks for this very enlightening video! I would like to ask you the following: By just blocking the AIS air sucking hose from the airbox, will the AIS system have any problems? It will try to suck air from a blocked hose with no success. If you tried just this without removing the entire AIS, it is a nice and very easy mod. Please answer me so I can proceed with just the hose blockage. Thanks!
You don't have to get one with a flash but some guys do to get the most out of their bike. If you like the way the flash performs then I would say your fine.
I will definitely be doing these to my 11' FZ1 for sure. I am getting ready to throw a full Yoshi and PCV on it as well. Anyone have Iridium plugs installed on their FZ1?
Great video.........like your work. Air filter ........what's that ? 😃 Your air box was way easier than taking mine out of my FZ1 a few years ago. But after gutting the cat and removing the X-up n silencer she sounded Raw especially when wound open across the bridge headed to Tampa. ;)
Hi Jean , I have done the air box mod, flies , free low air filter , pcv and custom map and have a full Akrapovic, mean range is huge and 152 at the rear wheel , no problem keeping up with any sports bike.
hows it going. nice vids. im looking into modding the AIS with block off plates. i have acces to material and machinery to fabricate it . but dont have and cannot find the dimensions online. any chance you can relay that my way here. thanks.( 13' fz8)
I know this is an old video, but you seem to have a lot of knowledge on the FZ1 and can maybe help because I exhausted the search bottom already lol... I got an 06 Fz and after installing a Hurric slip on I noticed that when I'm trying to keep a steady speed let see around city all I hear is a terrible gargling sound and i have to give it more gas for it to go away is hard to explain, but even in natural if i slightly start rolling the throttle you can hear it and is driving me crazy and can find anything about this problem, i put a K&N filter, change the plugs and adjust the tps a little, but still happening im willing to make a video if you can help, thank you.
Yes already check them everything looks to be in order, but I may still buy a new set because i been dealing with this problem almost a year and no solution at full throttle she is perfect, but trying to cruise is when it starts happening
The airbox mod does nothing and has been proven in dyno. It gave 1hp at the top and slightly less tourqe at the low end, and it used a heck of a lot more fuel after tuning. its pointless.

Outstanding!! great presentation & explanation ! Thanks!

What is the hose on the right side of the air box for...and must that also be blocked off??
I m subscribed fo sho. My 06 fz1 has every thing else done to it except these mods. And suspension.
Why do you have the original flies on?
What is the cable that you have disconnected and isolated?

not on any of mine. all good.
1/4 - 20 x 2 Nylon bolt
Awesome turtorial. If i do the airbox mod. Do i have to retune my bike again?
Kunt U mij zeggen waar ik de map van ivan kan vinden,en kan ik die dan laden op mijn pc5?
What size is the bolt you used to block the airbox? I heard something by 2 inch... with a nylon nut. Great video!

Would plugging the line from the AIS to the Airbox accomplish the goal?
What is the dimension of the piece of wood you're using to prop the tank up?
Looks killer mang.
Bought an '07 FZ1 with the PC3. Will it be easy to see if the AIS has been modified? What should I look for?

I want some smaller flies how do I get some. Im in England
does blocking the ais increase the engine braking?
Hi, how much did you achieve with that mods on the FZ 1? I'd like to do the same!

The coils may be the problem, if you have acces to a manual there is a way to check the specs of each.

I would hold off on the Airbox mod until you get a PowerCommander
Thanks for the speedy reply. :)
With those mods you should be fine.
1min intro ? Are you feeling ok ?
Yeah I feel fine by todays standard, yeah it's too long. Got any videos you uploaded ten years ago for us to see?
Thank you.

JUST GOING TO ASK
Power commanders are a waste of time these days. You can just get the ecu flashed and make all the same, and more adjustments.
