Thanks so much for this video. I've just hit the £3k threshold. I used it for every day spending and bought grocery gift cards in advance. I also used the card to pay for my citizenship application which will be almost £500 less because of this. This has been a massive help!!!
When did you convert it to the free card Chris? So I've just got my 70,000 AVIOS after 2.5 months. Can I convert it to the free card now, or do I have to wait for the AVIOS to reach my BA account first? Or wait 3 months, etc? Thx👍🏻
Hi Richard. I hit the threshold early in month 2 and had to wait for the avios point to show up later in the month. I then converted the avios late in month 2 and now in month 3 waiting for the nectar points to reflect. After that I will close my card, hopefully by the end of month 3.
@@St0ffel thx 👍🏻 it looks like my points get transferred to the BA account every 2nd of the month, which means 2nd May before I’m able to convert them to nectar. Hmm. So I could be in month 4 before I’m able to convert them and close the card.
This doesn’t seem to be available anymore? I am logged into my BA account but it is only referring to the 35,000 points not the 70,000. Can anyone help?

Thank you for your video Andy - super useful. I am looking to travel on a long-haul flight to Asia in the coming months, hence like to apply and use it to purchase flights and build up the points. However it seems many users complained online that they hit 3k spending and only credited 35k points with no helps from either AMEX or BA to fix this, apparently no 70k written confirmation during the actual application, and AMEX/BA blame each other..would be much appreciated that if anyone could confirm whether indeed they have been credited 70k points as per advertised without any issues? many thanks
I've just applied and been accepted for this account today and am equally nervous about only receiving the 35,000.. I have Twitter PMs from both BA and Amex confirming that the 70,000 offer will be honoured. A few people seem to suggest BA will credit the extra 35,000 into your Executive Club account AFTER the initial 35,000 are credited by Amex... Fingers crossed - I've applied today. Maybe Andy has some more info about this?..
Hi Andy, I’m looking to get this for my first card with Amex but wondering if I would be eligible for the gold card after the 3 months is up and I have spent £3k, so I can generate more points? Also be able to pull away from the £250 fee that this card comes with?. Thanks for the video 🙂

Amazing video! Can I use the Halifax Reward card to pay the balance on my BA American Express Premium Plus Card, would that qualify under the requirement of spending £500 on my debit card?
Hey Andy, thanks for your video. I want to ask if there is a minimum spend for Amex Gold Card or Amex Birtsh Airway Card? Like I have to spend that amount every month otherwise will be charged?

Looking at taking this out as first AMEX but my main monthly expenditure goes as a standing order to a joint account which in turn pays for the house bills. With that in mind, thinking the initial £3K might be hard to hit. Whats the most common things to be regulalry paying for on AMEX, just food shops/petrol etc? Guessing you cannot pay direct debits via AMEX? Thanks!
You could try to make a manual payment with the card for things like energy, mobile etc though it’s unlikely you’ll be able to pay Council Tax. It’ll all come down to the individual provider/Council
You could always buy something like Amazon vouchers (that don't have an expiry date) or other vouchers (for food shops etc, just make sure they have a long expiry date and don't forget about them and also make sure the company will be around for a long time)
I have a friend referral link for the BA AMEX credit card (not the premium). Can I use the same link to apply for a different AMEX card (e.g. platinum cashback CC) as I’d want my friend to get the points too?
Thanks Andy, quick question I do not currently have any form of Amex card, if I apply for this one will I be able to apply for say the Amex Gold or Platinum card (if they have a great new member offer) without having to wait any time period?
Hi Andy, if you don't spend £3000 in 3 months, is there a way to move money to give that spend, what counts as a purchase? I have the money somewhere else but it's going to be hard to have £1000 a month to go out of the account on food, etc. Rent is a standing order so wouldn't count I assume!?

Just got accepted for this. I was wondering how do they know the difference between the 35000 deal and the 70000 deal?
If you clicked through from the BA executive club link and enter your BA Executive club membership it should track on the 70,000 points
@@BeCleverWithYourCash do you think there's a chance they just won't honour it Andy? Did you contact them at all? Thanks for your help
Hi Andy. I passed the application, card is coming. I'm going to pay off my EDF Energy account next week. Do you know how long I have to wait before switching to the free card? Also, do we know when Amex will pay out the 70k points?
You can downgrade once you’ve triggered and received the bonus and the points are in your Avios account. I think it’s pretty fast.
Hi, I'm planning to do the same (big EDF top up..) - card is on the way. Did it go through ok? How long did Amex take to pay out the points? Thanks!
107.7 apr though? I'm confused why you appear to be recommending this with such a high Apr? Just curious as to why?
The representative Apr is because of the annual fee. He's recommending it because you should be paying off each month so not be paying any interest.
He's recommending it purely for the welcome bonus and makes a clear point to make sure you pay the card off every month.
As Jamie and Richard say! Do check out my video on the rules for credit cards too
Btw Andy on your site you say its potentially worth 73,000 i would be worth 74,500 as mentioned in this vid!
Yeah realised it’s 1.5 points per £1 so updated it on the blog
Isn't that worth a business class flight to the middle east?
Yeah potentially - though you need to factor in the taxes and fees
@@BeCleverWithYourCash hi Andy, would really be helpful if you could do a video for us how to book business class flights with points and best way to do it. Thanks !
Can you top up a GIA with the credit card and then withdraw the money ?
Not without extra charges
Thanks. So new laptop then :)
When is deadline for the Amex offer?
As mentioned in the video it’s 21 Feb, though of course it’s not impossible they pull it earlier
@@BeCleverWithYourCash ah yes sorry I forgot you mentioned it. Do you know if you can also get this welcome bonus AND be referred by a friend to get an extra 9k points?
How do you downgrade to the free card?
Live chat in app or phone
@@wills5434 thanks for that 🙂. Where could I find it within the app?
I’m guessing they will just do it for you and then just send you out the free version?
@@TheEduboy14 in the app top right button and just ask in the chat, when they change it the the refund is pro rata so I ended up only paying £22 for the fee
the only offer I can see is 35000 points not 70000
Yeah the difference is explained in the video. Watch again and you’ll see why there are two offers and how to find the increased deal
it's not for me but thank you
Yeah, not worth it if you’re not confident with managing the cards
Massive deal
It really is
I'm watching but thinking I will not be applicable to this
Yeah it’s vital you don’t spend money you don’t have to trigger the bonus
Defo not 3k in 3 months
Yeah if you can’t spend that then definitely avoid! Maybe consider the £1,000 in three months option
I am 18 can I do it
It’s unlikely you’d get accepted, but you can check eligibility on the Amex website to see what your chances are
@@BeCleverWithYourCash I just turned 18 what do you think the best credit card is to go for
I applied as a student and got £1200 limit!
Andy will buying amazon/love2shop or asda gift cards count towards this? Also spending abroad? I barely spend anything but am keen to get gift cards to secure the rest of my 2023 as ive already bought gift cards from monese! Plus the bonus is worth it!
Yep will do, just be careful with the gift cards. If you lose them or they expire you lose the money
@@BeCleverWithYourCash on beermoney one said book a vrbo and then refund it!!
@@BeCleverWithYourCash Will I still get the bonus if I have had Barclaycard Avios?
Zilch cashback is a lot better than you're saying.
Thousands of sites pay 2% cashback (including Amazon) and a few are now paying up to 5%.
The 0.5% you mentioned is if you select "spend anywhere", if you go to the app before purchase and select the site you are buying from you'll get the 2-5% so with Chase 3-6%
It used to be 2% on 'spend anywhere', so it's a big downgrade. Effectively means you can now only get 2% plus cashback on online purchases.
@@robertmills4591 correct, but in the vid only mentioned 0.5%, not the 2-5%.
