Where was he when JFK was blown away? Where was he when Lennon was cut down? Where was he when the tonight show was cancelled? Where was he, when Franz Ferdinand was shot?
Im listening to the Conan OBrien broadcast and its so interesting to see how this tall lanky 29 year old was put in the spotlight suddenly. Listen to his voice holy cow
Even better is when Letterman shows back up on Late Night a few months later, Letterman asks "how *did* you get this job? was it a theme writing contest?" to which Conan replies "yes, the subject was 'what would I do with a talk show.' I came in fourth." About as funny as late night talk has ever been right there.
Lorne Michaels’ will always have my respect for seeing what no one else did. Conan’s name should have gone down as a joke. His show along with the Chevy chases. A jeopardy question. Yet he turned out to be the funniest person ever on tv. Amazing.
Dave bristled at that remark too. Conan really was green here. Mentioning the Tonight Show was rubbing salt in the wound. Conan was taking over hosting duties from David Letterman because he quit his job at NBC due to the fact that the network gave the Tonight Show to Jay Leno following Johnny Carson's retirement. To this day Dave is still bitter about being stabbed in the back by NBC and his supposed "friend" Jay Leno.
Its possible that Dave didn't like Conan in the beginning. After all, Dave quit his esteemed late night show and here comes his replacement, an inexperienced young kid, this cheeky upstart, basically who's going to try his utmost to supplant David Letterman in the hearts of his loyal viewers. However, Conan quickly earned Dave's respect and admiration. He defended Conan against his longtime friend and rival, Jay Leno during the late-night war that started when Jay Leno agreed to vacate the role as host of the Tonight Show so Conan could take over, only to change his mind and fight to reclaim his former glory, an underhanded maneuver which he succeeded in completing. There may have been animus towards Conan at first, but there's no doubt in my mind that Dave is genuinely fond of Conan now, and has felt that way for years.
Absolutely wild that this guy became a comedy legend. In his form currently depicted, he could have disappeared in a year or two and have been forgotten. What's the lesson? That confidence brings success? I don't know, what do you think the lesson here is?
I'm not so sure he'll work well on television, but if they ever invent something called "pod-casting" he might succeed, especially if he works with an Armenian assistant.
If I had never heard or seen Colin before this interview I would watch it and think to myself “well this guy is awkward and has no chance of making it”
look it up. It has to do with an anti-polution commercial. Defiling the planet makes an Indian cry. That was too depressing though so he was replaced with the Energizer Bunny. Mankind is destroying the Earth but its ok because look at the cute bunny playing the drums.
I'm 1993 born 😅😂
Same
It's the new girl - look - it's the new girl.
Same
You have a chance
I'm 1986.7.7
Anyone out there watching please remember: _don’t blame Conan_ .
"And I said...no one is blaming Conan...."
Conan has a job, Jay has a job, Dave has a job, and what's his name? Lonnie Donegan? What's his name?
So you're saying this is vintage Jay.

@@mjfan653what does those things have to do with anything?
The new guy became the best to ever do it. Thank you for amazing 28 years of Late Night, COCO! See you on your next show
The 2 best ever hosts, with apologies to Carson!
Conan is the Greatest Talk Show host of all time. There's no one currently on TV that comes close to him.

I literally just googled this after hearing the podcast episode with Jeff Ross
Letterman couldn't have been any more gracious, welcoming and supportive in that interview!
"They all failed miserably and now I'm getting this."
perfect joke

@@USALeonHeart oh indeed. I almost spit my drink the first time I ever heard that joke.
Look at this sweet anxious mess
Lol perfectly stated 🤙🏻
Yea 😂
How does this not have more views? This is the beginning of a legend.
For the same reason the first moon landing doesn't a lot of viewings on certain channels. This isn't Conan's channel.
Props to Paul and the band playing "New Kid In Town" as Conan came out.

he looks like such a teenager here. LOL He was 30 here. I can't believe he is 61 now!
The very next day, Andy said "How about putting your hair...... up?"
That was the day he became Marge Simpson
Baby Conan! Floppy hair Conan!
This was the youngest we’ve seen Conan but he was 30 at this time, there was a video where Conan was 14 interviewing some girl in school
@@RaniaBhattithat was him interviewing all his siblings actually
Young Conan so handsome 😭💕
Conan in the beginning really looked liked he wasn't going to make it. The patience shown to him probably would happen in today's landscape!
It would?
love the new kid in town, great touch
Foreshadowing when he said “I tried it out on the Tonight Show set”

30 years later the man is the same just less nervous 😊😊
Most amazing and funniest talk show host for my generation
"The network would probably like to see you in a tie. They'd like to see me in a cab." -- David Letterman
Already with the quick humour. He's clearly relatively inexperienced and nervous, but still makes a good impression I think.
His laugh fucking kills me, wish he kept it
What's interesting about this interview is that if Conan failed we look at this Interview under a different light.. A sad light.. He's really the king
i remember watching this when i was 12
he's so cute and handsome and anxious here. he must've been a nervous wreck
"The crying Indian guy"????..
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i love Conan
Dave’s laugh reminds me of how someone who doesn’t like the person they’re talking to laughs

The real #MayTheFourth celebration.
conan really had a high pitched voice back then 😅
Only time Conan was a guest in his old Studio 6A.
Conan: when I first started I was known as the new guy. now Im the "I though you died 6 years ago" guy
Gretzky must be part of Wayne's World episode

Close your eyes and listen to Conan's voice- he sounds a lot like Quinten Tarrantino?
Young Conan sounds a little like Woody Allen
i am missing that word ? is he saying SIDE KICK or his PSYCHIC? ?
look at this little girl
He was funnier here than on the early shows.
1993 was 10 years before I was born

Funny how he was about to unload on lorne michaels which if he did we would never know conan as we do now lol...
Hard to believe I’m 30 in 2023
Lucky you, I'm 32
Today is Conan’s 60th birthday 😮
He seems nervous
