    Potting the black of the break and "Losing" stems from all the old pool machines, where it was not possible to simply re-rack, as you had to put another pound in to get all the balls out. This is an old pub rule that people sort of adopted. The official rules is a re-rack.

      @AD-kv9kj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On these kinds of pool tables the white ball is smaller (coin operated). This can actually throw off your angle aiming quite a bit when you're used to playing with a cueball that's the same size as the object balls. Also, the balls look terrible quality and will have chips and scuffs of them that cause a lot of bad contacts. If they both practiced on this table for a few days before playing, rather than just having a quick casual knockabout like this, they'd be playing very differently.
      Remember, snooker players only get into top tournaments by spending years practicing really hard on the exact same type of tables. Even the best in the world suddenly start losing badly after a few months without properly focused practice.

      I think a lot of confusion is due to pool having three main rule sets (Old EPA, Official EPA and IPA Blackball rules) but interestingly despite all being different the rule in this case is the same regardless of which set of rules you play.
      It should be re-rack with the same player breaking - even if a foul shot is committed otherwise. Bit of a weird one if you ask me.

      Depends on rule set. International rules that’s a rerack. The old English rules (can’t remember the abbreviation) it’s a loss. On a golden break rule set, it’s a win. All just depends on which rules they were playing to- and it’s pretty clear that they didn’t agree beforehand to one rule set

    2nd game in, I've seen no end of arguments on this one when on break you plot the black, Official Rules are re-rack but on coin op being it's so hard to pot the Black we played it as a win, other places played it at a loss, or those who wanted to play by the official rules risked breaking or dislocating their fingers by trying stop the black from dropping in, have seen plenty of big Irish builders managing to grab the ball whilst it went in the pocket but couldn't get their hand back out cause their hands were so big.
    Have seen and been part of some big old barnies due to various rules in different places, So before playing establish your rules saves a whole lot of trouble.
