Man I been really tryna master the art of midi clock. How do you get them to sync? Do you record the patterns on them both separately, then connect them both? How is it done? Please help me out with this!
I connected the Midi Out from the RD8 with the Midi In from the SP404. You have to set midi sync mode from the sp404 to 'auto' or 'tempo'. You can set this by pressing FUNC and Pad10, then turn the CTRL 3 knob to change the midi sync mode. I recorded a simple loop with the sp404 internal sequencer. To trigger the playback of the sequence in sync with the rd8, you have to press pattern select, then keep pressing the hold button and select the pad for the sequence that you want to playback. Now every time you press play/stop on the rd8, the selected sequence from the sp404 will get played or stopped. Hope this helps
Thanks so much for sharing this vid. Because of you, our church purchased an RD-8 and SP-404 to run back loops for our service. If you get this message.. Lets collaborate!! We will master any of your beats for free..
Yo bro does this machine produce cool trap kicks? I feel like from what I’ve heard there’s too much top end.. I just want that soft thumping yet hard kick
The RD-8 aims at recreating the original sound from the Roland 808. Today's Trap Beats mostly use post produced kick samples, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. I used the RD-8 couple of times for my Hip-Hop/Trap beats and the Kick really makes for a good base. But to get more out of it you need to use Effects on it like EQs Compression and so on
Yes they are from the RD-8. Its possible to program those note repeats. In my tutorial on Basslines with the RD-8, you can see how to program note repeats: th-cam.com/video/-eOMHOfahbU/w-d-xo.html

You can turn the decay lower on the kick to get a softer and deeper thump
