- There are plenty of relaxing, cozy games out there. Games about building stuff, packing stuff, designing stuff, managing stuff. But none of them are like Anno. And that's why I love it so, so much.
Have fun!

Thank you everyone for watching! I'm totally overwhelmed by this video's success ♥️ I love reading your comments and ideas.

The sum of all Anno games is always 9... 1404=9 1602=9 1800=9
haha.. ok.. i need to listen better 😛. But I do like your video a lot. Big like from me
@@lucymul1449 thank you 😊
by chance, have you played this other old game called "stronghold"?
@@maggyfrog maybe, I don't really remember
Back in the day my whole family played Anno 1602. You could walk around in our apartment and hear the music and the sounds coming from every room.
That's so wholesome. I remember many of my friend's dads playing it back then
@@FWSeba yeah it got so far that we told our parents what we needed on the shopping list in the style of Anno. "Your people require Cocoa!"
Ah...Greensleeves.
Good memories. I still love this game til this day.
adopt me pls
"your people are staving" is still seared into my mind from that game
It's relaxing to see someone describe how much they like a game like this, thank you.
No, thank you!
as a kid, my first anno game was 1503, i kept going bankrupt as a kid. i kept comming back but i kept losing. then 6 years later i found a copy of anno 1404. bought it and once again kept going bankrupt. dozens of failed city states later i finaly, FINALY started making enough gold too survive, and this little city of particans and mud roads became my gateway into a new world.
and my favorate game ever :)
Sounds a lot like my story..🥹
Anno 2070, to me, is the best of the series. I guess I have a lot of nostalgia for the game because it got me through a tough break up over 10 years ago. I still remember playing coop with 2 other friends and building the end-game monument. It was able to calm and de-stress me. I also completed Anno 1800 several times coop with a friend. I’ll always be a fan of this series.
Anno 2070 is indeed one of the best imo, but I understand when people say they like their Anno to be set in a historical setting.
I was sad when they finally pulled the plug on 1800. I particularly wanted a South-East Asia instance - the Princess would have made an ideal introductory character to it. Some tips for anyone new to the franchise: The best way to learn how 1800 works is to play 1404. In 1800, get to Enbesa as soon as possible, obtain a white flag and start trading watches from Archie to Ketema - thereafter money is no problem. Get hold of Costume Designers from Eli - no need to ship cotton (until you get into really fancy stuff later.) In the opposite direction don't bother shipping sewing machines until you're ready to colonise Manola. In the Arctic you can buy most of your regional needs from the Inuit camp. Old Nate gives you enough gas to construct two airships - do it and ignore the rest of the quest until you've used them to claim all the gas plateaux. The AI characters will have airships by other means but only you will be able to power cities without oil. Isobel sells aluminium - enough for all your postal needs. Set up a New World hacienda farm solely to produce fertiliser to ship across the globe (put in a sell order at the harbour to get rid of the alpaca wool).
playing anno is like putting on a warm jumper, eating a bowl of delicious ramen and drinking a hot cup of tea on a cold winters night
Exactly.
And you managed to make a video that feels as warm and cozy as Anno, great work!
Thank you 😭😭
I'm also long fan of Anno series, since Anno 1602. IMHO Anno 1800 is the best.
For the next Anno I would like something like Ancient Rome/Greek or back to roots Portugal exploration era. Building an Portugal empire with Anno 1800 settings would be so good.
You start with Portugal map building your main town/capitol, you start to explore new maps in atlantic ocean, coast of Africa, South America(Brazil), India, China, Japan. And every new map bring new resources and expantion od production line. And then you move all the diferent products and resorces from all over the world back to your main city.
Spending hours and hours together and my man is shitting on my musical taste :D
Thank you for making this! I played 1800 on the free weekend recently, and you totally summarized my feelings
What a great video! You articulated every feeling I get playing the game that I myself couldn't describe it as well. I love love love playing 1404, and I play pretty much with your exact gamestyle. You've convinced me to load up my continuous save file.
Glad you enjoyed the vid, have fun in 1404!
Your summary of all the games, and then can't pick between 1404 and 1800.. I agree 100%!! :D
I'd never played another Anno before, found this and it sat on Steam for a couple of years. Then I finally played it and it became one of my favorite games of all time. I've put more time into it than I would admit, and look forward to something else from these brilliant developers that scratches my itch for more. I'll try it in German next for a change up! Nice video.
Thanks a lot, glad you like the game!
I've only played Anno 1701 and 1800 but I love them both so much
Thanks for the video! Should definitely try the series. For some reason, I never payed attention to it, even though the game of my childhood was Caesar 3, so I totally understand your nostalgic feelings and vibes.
I'm going to have to try this now. I've been looking for a game for so long. And the way you described this, it sounds like something perfect for me
Glad I could help!
A month from now, you're gonna be like "I'm 937 hours into my 3rd playthrough....."
Dude.. I feel EXACTLY the same about the series. Like. Exactly! Down to hating German dubs and this being the only game I play in German. My partner is English, so almost all of my media is in English. I didn't play the future ones. 1404 was my fave. I was hyped for 1800. I play slow, don't build pretty, don't build huge - just relax. Literally everything you say I agree with completely!
Einfach gemütlich. Und dann sind Stunden einfach weg.
Scheint, dass ich einen Anno-Zwilling irgendwo habe 😂
@@FWSeba Das dachte ich mir genau auch so XD
Having never played Anno before, I recently grabbed 1880 in a sale and then 1404 soon after. So glad I did. I was surprised by just how chilled out they were. They closest thing I can compare to them is Banished, but that is quite stressful.
I'm a bit of a digital hoarder, always buying games knowing I will never have the time to play them. I do take time to try games that are relaxing and can be played in short sessions. You've inspired me to try Anno 1404, thank you for sharing your opinion!
You're welcome, glad I motivated you to try it!
that intro from 1602 was and will ever be one of my favourite key moments in childhood. (in par with the sunflowers logo)
It's pure nostalgia, right?
Your video captures what ANNO meant and means to me so eloquently and perfectly! Gut gemacht, Herr Seba :)
Dankeschön, Herr Robert!
Thanks for your awesome video. I love city builders but have been on the fence about Anno. You've convinced me to give it a try. Calmness is a good thing!
Glad you like the video! And you'll love Anno!
about 15 years ago or so I tried Anno, played it fair bit. it stuck inside me, went for different games but everytime I see Anno title in store I get some nostalgia
Exactly. I just enjoy playing it. Thank you :)
Living in the moment isn't cringe. Fuck this modern internet where sentimental and healthy human behavior is "cringe". No wonder depression is so ubiquitous. Great vid--Anno is amazing.
Thank you!
I remember playing 1602 AD, Age of Empires, and Civilization IV as a kid. Good times
anno is such an amazing series i remember my cousin giving me the 1602 disk.
I have never played any of the Anno games, but I did buy the new one in the Steam sale and will definitely get around to playing it now. And this, FWSeba, was the best game review I have ever seen on TH-cam. Thank you.
No, thank you 🥹😭
great review and insights, really well put together. Never played the game but I'm delighted it has such good memories for you.
Thank you!
I started this series on 2070 after having never heard of Anno before. Guess it is still kinda niche. I went in expecting some kind of strategy/management but was blown away immediately by the piano music and the opening screen. It felt like the beginning of a children's storybook and as the game continued to be developed I loved taking part in the real time events. No other game quite captivated me in the same way.
I guess there's a certain 'intensity' to Anno games based further forwards in time. Anno has definitely been a weird mix of constantly working to improve or reach a goal whilst also finding time to catch glimpses of your creation and really coming to appreciate what went into making it. I liked 2070 for seeing residences grow taller and taller whilst seeing the landscape transform based on my decisions and 1800 was an incredible and exciting journey of industrialisation. Steam engines will always make my heart race.
I guess at the end of the day, as much as I would love to see another sci-fi or even post apocalyptic Anno, we are in agreement: Anno is great because it's not following the trend of many other games. It's cozy and yet complex, filled with unforgettable characters whilst you manage potentially millions and through it all it's just content to keep doing things it's own thing in it's own way.
This was great. Thank you. It as like a love story.
Fantastic video! I've had Anno 1800 for a while but haven't downloaded it yet, given my limited phone data plan. After watching your video, I'm definitely making the download happen. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for your kind words, have fun!
Wonderful video! I love how many facettes you point out, makes me appreciate the game so much more 😊 can't wait to play it again. Also, your voice is so soothing, I'll definitely check out more of your videos!
Thanks a lot ♥️
Well-presented and nicely explained. Thanks!
Best city building series. Anno 1800 is exceptional.
It absolutely is!
Anno1404 is an amazing game still! I love it for the exact same reasons you do
That's so nice to hear!
YOURE RIGHT!! I VISITED ANNO 1404 EARLY NOV THIS YEAR & ALREADY PLAYED ABT 40HOURS ATM.
What a charming review 😊 I heard about this game a couple weeks ago and it sounds awesome! My dad and I are waiting for it to hopefully go on sale around Christmas and we’re gonna nerd out! Happy to hear this is a cozy game because I really enjoy those too!
Thank you! This game is what you make of it. Optimise and go to war and it's stressful as hell, but lay back and don't rush it and it's super chill.
Hope you got it, if not its on sale right now ends on the 15th though👍
My mom used to sing that (along with many other songs)!❤ Or something like it anyway.
I played 1602 waaaay backm when I was 6 or 7, didn't speak english, didn't understand the game, but man, if I hear a music piece that 1602 uses, I instantly get a flashback to the good old days. Brings tears to my eyes.
Anno 1800 really nailed the music. When I was hearing the songs for the first time I noticed that I was just staring into the screen, listening to music. This happened only once before, when I was playing Mechanicus and the legendary Children of the Omnissiah made it's way into my ears I was staring yet again at the screen with tears in my eyes and goosebumps on my skin.
Absolutely, the music in 1800 is masterful. When they brought back some tunes from 1404 in 1800 I couldn't believe my ears
I really enjoyed your awesome video!
Thank you!
Tolles Video mit schönen Bildern. Ich spiele zwar keine Citybuilder aber deine Begeisterung für Anno ist schon ansteckend 😃
Das freut mich zu hören, Dankeschön :)
Looks amazing!! It's hard to find a relaxing game that isn't boring to players, i think that's also why a lot of people still play OSRS 20+ years later.
What stands OSRS for please?
@@Cyon2012 Old School Runescape, basically everything before they introduced the wilderness changes in 2007 + things that were approved by the players via poll.
@@Sarnarath Ok, thank you. I have never played RuneScape but if it is relaxing perhaps I should.
I came late to the franchise. Anno 1800 is stupendous! I love this game, but I stopped playing it last year due to IRL issues. After this video, I think I'm going to load up a new Anno 1800 game and give it a go. thanks for the video. It really brought me back.
That's so great to hear, have fun!
I would love to see an Anno 9 split between ancient rome (main) and ancient greece + ancient egypt honestly, I think there is so much to do and unpack production wise and architectural wise and the traveling through archipelagos would seem so natural being set in a "mediterranean sea", and I think it would really fit well with the high contrast kind of cartoonish style (something akin to caesar 3), I guess we'll see if the future brings it to us 😀
That sounds really interesting!
.
Yeah you get me! I love Fallout 3 & 4 for the environment including the music! I get fully immersed!
.
I was the weird 10 year old playing Anno 1602 and I enjoyed it so much! Now my son is 10 and I got us Anno 1800 for Christmas this year. I hope it lives up to my cozy memories...
Aw that's so cute! I bet it will!
I came to know Anno from Anno 1800. It is wonderful!
aww thta exactgly how i feel about anno. Than was lovely thanks. x
Thank you!
I only played the game when it was under the title *1602 A.D.* I never associated the Anno series with that so I never played the others.
Used to love leaving the game running while i went to work, then come back and try to salvage whatever was left of my city.
You sold me this game man , I wish there would an anno set in the classical age
Imagine commerce with Phoenicians or Greeks
I'm glad you like it!
I only have Anno 1800 for the PS5, after watching your video I'm going to play during the winter break.
Great decision!
I miss this type of gameplay.
Excellent description of the Anno games. I started with 1404, tried 2070, skipped 2205 and is addicted to 1800.
Thank you!
Thanks for the video, lovely
(re-installing 1404 right now)
Yes, good, let the Anno flow through you!
We used to play Anno has a family, it was so much fun. I remember in Anno 1404, the announcer says in the beginning of a round "Choose your banner" distinctively.
Are you sure about the banner thing?
I only remember it from the earlier ones
@@FWSeba might have been Anno 1602, that was like 20+ years ago, nostalgic af
I got the same feeling for Uncharted waters 2 from Koei 😊
It's like listening you to describe how I feel, how I play this masterpiece. One thing I can add here and I love is that this game has almost no bugs or glitches that will interrupt the gameplay. Also this little reminder every 2 hours, it's such a lovely detail and care for the players.
True, I never thought about that. It's mostly bug free 🤯
@@FWSeba yeah, it's like a masterpiece of game development. Do you play in multiplayer? I rarely find people who wanna play it, cuz it takes a lot of time. But honestly, playing just against the AIs sometimes makes me feel lonely in the Anno world.
@@lyuboslavsalev7522 I have one friend I play multiplayer with, but except for that I like playing by myself
I confess I had to quit playing Anno for the moment but I'm definitely returning to it at some point.
anno is the best for introvert gamers who just want to build in a sandbox ☕
Personally for me Anno 1602 is my "feel good" games of all Anno's in the series.
Its graphics ooze a certain charm, the music is just nice and it's mechanics weren't as complicated or convoluted like in later installments
Anno 801 Set in either Scandinavia or Britain, Anno 900, anno 702 set in China
100000000% AGREE. Love this game. I've only played 1800
2070 was my favorite before 1800 released, imo it is an upgrade of 1404 with different factions which i absolutely love, it still has my favorite OST, when playing Anno i love playing with Hard AI and get punished for playing too slow since to this day Anno 2070 has the most aggresive AI in the series til this day, even in Anno 1800 i have combat overhaul mod to make the AI very aggresive, i guess i'm the exact opposite of you yet we love the same series for opposite reason, i love this series so much!
My hope for next Anno is called "Anno '45" set in 1945s (because it still 9 when you add the number, 4+5=9 silly i know).
You have exactly pointed it out why I love playing this game. I started with 1404, then played 1701, both the future settings and now I am playing 1800 over and over again. It's just relaxing. Although I am German, I do play the English version - just my preference.
Now you got me curious.
My favourite character is 1404 Narrator ( french by Benoît Allemane, Morgan Freeman dub ). The cosiest way to be reminded to take a cup of coffee.
Anno #8 being focused around the time of Henry the 8th... maybe??? Anno #9 simply being Anno 9, sounds prefect... Anno 2025, I'm with you "nope"
Gosh that looks cozy.
I would love Anno 900 for an even more folky- village and nordic setting (vikings sailing to iceland and greenland) 💜
I snagged 1602 by chance and immediately fell in love with the series. Logged the most time in 1701. Unfortunately, my computer wasn't able to run the later iterations l as I switched over to the xbox and PS4. Might snag one of them on the Steam Deck thougj as I'm feeling that itch of leading a group of preschoolers in an earlier century management sim
I can highly recommend 1800! It has so much from the old ones but also refreshing new mechanics
I think that 1404 was killed by those very creepy smiling faces in the corner. I don't know whats wrong with me. They just rub me the wrong way.
I love them 😅
gives me that settlers vibe
Anno 1800 with no pirate and competitors is the calmest game I've ever played. Even Tetris feels more hectic. Yet, beneath calm surface there are so many planning and optimizing production and supply chain. And it's addictive as hell.
Until Ann Harlow cones and ruins your Routes 😂
my bigger problem with anno 1800 is yhat with yhe new world yhere are so many islands that feels stressful to always need to change islands and world to keep the lohistic chain going
That game stressed me out. May e I tried to do too much too soon. But the creative mode seemed too dull. Weird.
Anno games are great but for the most relaxing, that has to be Foundation. An amazing game..
I've been a fan of the Anno series since 1602 A.D. (the game, not the year 😉) If I may add... one of the best of the genre of all time was Industry Giant II, from Jowood Studios out of Austria. Has yet to be matched in it's niche.
hearing that 1404 was your youth made me feel old. Mine was 1602, but I get that you feel 1404 was very well rounded overall.
That's how I play every game lol
Yeah, the futuristic setting doesn't really work for the Anno series. With the DLCs 1800 already reached the 1940s era too. Going back, I don't think any other middle age era would be that much different from Anno 1404.
What I'd like if the next Anno game would go way back to the roots of civilization. The first foragers settling down at a suitable location, discovering new technologies like domesticating animals and growing crops. And then each tier would push them forward in time, up to classical ancient era.
What I'd do away with in a sense is boats tho. Replace the flagship with scouts, and trade ships with caravans. And the sea with untamed wilds. Where islands are habitable areas. Of course the sea can be a part of the game too, but later, when the people can build boats big enough to cross it.
The neat thing they could do is the area you build at could determine what kind of architecture and needs your people need. They could advance in the analogue of hellenistic, egyptian, mesopotamian, far eastern, etc styles. Kinda like how 1404 had the occident and the orient on the same worldmap.
Sounds interesting 🤔
Never give this video Spanish subtitles. Truly cursed.
Thanks for a cool introduction to anno for someone who's never played though
Okay 👀 You're welcome!
You should try Anno 1800 the board game!
This guy gets it.
Very nice game ^.^
Nice Narration on this video. I have this game in my library and have played it a few times. Seems to be a bit of a resource hog on graphics, but I will agree with you, It is a relaxing game
It's very well optimized though, and especially CPU heavy. So maybe turn down population density and draw distance to improve FPS.
Oh and thanks! 😅
@@FWSeba I will try that. Thank you :)
I started out with Anno 1602 after Anno 1503 had been out for a year I think. My mom let me pick one of the cheaper ( a bit older) games at the local games store one day and I chose Anno 1602 as I was already a fan of RTS games and enjoyed Age of Empires 1 & 2 immensly. I though I just picked another rts game which seemed interesting. But what I got was something completely different. And despite me being too young to be good at the game, skipping the tutorial text and playing it too much like I would a normal RTS so I never got far and my cities went bankrupt I still loved the game for its concept and atmosphere:P
I liked it so much that I saved up money to buy Anno 1503 a year later. And holy shit it still has some of the most beautiful isometric 2D art and graphics I've ever seen. It might look a little bit static by todays standard. But the colour and details is so great. And it still looks mostly full of life and movement everywhere. And the atmosphere and soundtrack was a step up from 1602 which was already great!
I like the newer Anno titles too. And Anno 1701 was kinda a remake/reboot of 1602 I felt. But Anno 1503 is still my favourite. Escpecially now that I'm old and mature enough to actually understand and play the game properly. And I think it deserves a remake as well.
And by remake I mean keep it mostly as it is despite visually improvements true to the original games tone and atmosphere. But there is room for a lot of quality of life improvements to the rescource, trade and micro management. And also the military part. I feel like a game like Anno 1503 doesen't benefit from individual soliders. But rather platoons or companies like in Anno 1701 or Age of Empires 3. As the warfare conceptually was great but tedious in practise.
To me Anno 1503 had the most classic RTS influence, but is/was also the most free form city builder where the relaxing mentality of "lets see what happens" truly shines.
It's so cool to hear all of you guy's stories connected to Anno!
2070 was a good game and when deep ocean DLC was added it opened the game up so much. But nothing is as good as 1800.
I played Anno 1404 a lot, and I love the game but I think it can become really overwhelming with all stuff happening in late game.
You are more eloquent in a second language than most native English speakers!
Thank you :)
I have not played this game, nor have I finished the review. I don't need to. Having played Civ since.. well, since it played on a Mac SE30, I can empathize. Different games true! But I celebrate someone who approaches their fav city builder game the WAY I do. Nukes, caravels and howitzers be damned! Take your spies and missionaries and stick 'em where the sun don't shine! Just give me a happy populace, good trade and growing amenities and, well - I may not win, but I'm.. cozy. All good. Thanks FWSeba!
No, thank you!
Very good video
Thank you!
1602 AD is very fun, except when you find gold, then, unless you get cocky, you will eventually win, but it still takes some planning, and execution.
Looked at it on Steam. all I will say is I'm happy to wait until they are done with it, and it finally gets placed into a GOTY version with all DLC at once if the price is right.
Man, i seen this game and thought thats right up my street so i bought it and came to the conclusion im just thick😂
It takes a lot of time getting used to if you're a first time player, stick with itnl!
I played 1604 the most :-D So long ago...
I bought this game years ago.
Every so often I decide I'll try it out.
Then, about 20 minutes later, I give up.
That's how long it takes for me to realise I don't know my password for their website (which is unnecessary), for them to send a new pasword to my email account, to access that, paste it over, try again, and 'Congratulations _now_ you've only loaded the web page, but bear with us please, in no time at at all you could be playing the game..... Oh. He's gone'
Yeah that's Ubisoft for you right there. Let's hope they fix it by the next iteration
Great music and your voice =)
Thank you!
