I love that you made the comparison to J Dilla. Madlib (producer of this record) worked with him a lot before JD’s passing, and they even collaborated on an album (Jaylib). Needless to say, Dilla had a lasting impact on Madlib as well as the rest of the hip hop genre
If you're enjoying your hip hop journey, you need to hear MF DOOM. Either his Mm.. Food album, or Madvilliany with Madlib. Both albums make you feel like you're listening to Saturday morning cartoons. Classics

Freddie gibbs is probably the greatest gangsta rapper ever and hes definitely up there with kendrick and earl for best rappers of this generation glad to see u do one of his albums. Some rap songs is next hopefully
Love that you reacted to this album! I highly suggest listening to NxWorries album "Yes Lawd!" It has the same singer from the song Giannis, with a very great producer Knxwledge!

this album was by far my 2019 hip-hop aoty! I really wish I could listen to it for the first time again. the production and bars are immaculate. check out piñata or the cold vein next!
Check out some under appreciated albums from the past few years: Parquet Courts - Wide Awake Saba - Care for Me Pusha T - Daytona (this was pretty popular though) Also the new Phoebe Bridgers album, Punisher, is excellent if you’re looking for a nice cry.
You should do a reaction to some Tricot. They're a really cool Japanese math rock band. I would recommend their album "3" or or their newest album "Pitch black"
No hate to bandana... but I genuinely believe that piñata is so much more organic sounding and is fleshed out with amazing instrumentals that gives off a lush and psychedelic feel, you’ll love it!
Oh, I don't know. I mean, I'm sure you think that (and obviously I haven't heard it) but if I were to do Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' someone would say "It's good but you should have done Kid A". The Mercurial Number Six only one way to find out :) and btw thank you! I find that you are one of the most genuine musical reactors I’ve seen in TH-cam recently!
Im still in awe of the production of these albums. The mental image it produces is madvillain sat with a stack of records, frantically flipping samples, looping beats and producing 'in one take', chopping things up on the fly just as frantically, erratically and masterfully as freddies rapping. Even throwing on a comedy album to take a breather or changing his mind after hearing a sample and mixing to something else. Its crazy to say but it feels freestyled by both rapper and producer. Its organic to the point where the depth of mastery is exposed. Its not looking at a monet. Its watching someone freehand a monet in ballpoint pen.
Someone suggested that you should listen to "Veteran" by Jpegmafia. This would be mistaken. Jpegmafia's newest album "All my heroes are cornballs" would be of far greater interest to you. The "cornballs" album is the Finnegan's Wake of hip hop albums. Truly worth your full attention. Also, this is a fantastic video, really.
I've been thinking about the point you made about music and comedy since I watched this video...not sure what I've been thinking but I appreciate the take and agree
krunkformula I really can’t think of a weakness for Piñata. For me the production is weird and obscure so it doesn’t get boring but the beats are still super catchy, and Freddie floats over them perfectly. It’s a project for me that I can listen to over and over again and it flies by every time and doesn’t get boring.
@@rikmascle4940 imo there are a few songs on pinata I don't love. Pinata has higher highs but Bandana is more consistent to me. Not that Pinata is worse not what I'm saying at all but I do feel like they are both great in their own ways
@@rikmascle4940 and I love obscure production i do think the production on pinata is more true to madlibs style I pretty much listen to madlib beat tapes exclusively lmao
You should totally listen to Anderson .Paak’s albums- Malibu and YesLawd are great neo-soul albums, Oxnard is classic g-funk and Ventura is full-on soul
There is so much you still need to listen to man you can go in so many directions from Piñata to MF DOOM stuff (Madvilliany of course but others good as well. I recommend Vaudeville Villian by DOOM alter ego Viktor Vaughn) to Quasimoto The Unseen, to Beat Konducta projects and thats just in connection to this album. Love following your journey!
I notice there is a ‘hard’ factor that many people simply don’t recognise at all, and it’s in instrumentals too not just lyrics, many times you find it in simple patterns and flows and I feel like people see appreciation for that simplicity or repetition, specifically hip hop music, as simple mindedness. Complexity can be impressive and should be appreciated when pulled off well, but people forget that music is really only about that good feeling you get when something is fire, and rap music definitely makes you feel that, obviously more so if you can closely relate to person, hence the clear cultural divide between those with and without this specific faculty. Shit is hard
