What an ignorant title, worthy of unsubscribing. You’re saying the menu is Woke from an era well beyond the years of todays current political culture. Look up FUDD in the dictionary and look to see if your picture is in there…

On the osmotic raisins it just describes the dehydration process. So the grapes are dried by either covering them in sugar in the drying process or having a sugar solution in the drying ovens so the osmosis process is used to accelarate the drying process.
Since they dry a lot faster osmotic raisins are softer and plumper than convection oven only or sundried raisins.

After watching your videos for some time now, I was convinced to try a MRE. One of my military buddies gave me one of his (chili with beans) dated 2009. That being said be people have different dietary preferences and/or restrictions. So the Veg. option in MREs seems like progress to me! Hope this changes your view on it Me Ancient. Love your videos. @MeAncient  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I'm just old and when I was active duty, the Marine didn't tell the Marine Corps what menu he wanted. I think we did alright back then. Personal choice was, by and large, left out of the equation when we signed up to serve. That included food choices. I would argue that a military with too many personal choices cannot have the esprit de corps it needs to do what the military is supposed to do....break things and kill people - before they break your things and kill your people. That's all I'm saying. TFW

Veggie burgers can be really good as long as they are not pretending to be meat, like those silly "beyond meat" burgers, etc. My sister is a vegitarian and she gets delicious veggie burgers such as teriyaki flavour which is awesome. BBQ could be good too.

This is where things get complicated by Naval reorganization. In about 2005 or 06 the medical and dental were merged together. Dental was expected to cross-train and be able to fill either role but this was not true of the medical staff until about 2011. So yes, I was a doc, but my primary role was dental. However, I did several rotations in the medical clinic.

When I heard "vegetarian" I wrinkled my nose a bit, but that hamburger doesn't look bad at all. Anyway, I prefer a "real" hamburger on the grill, but I guess some people will have a reason not to eat meat, and even if they are in the army its their right to not eat it, even if I don´t understand it... Woke and anti woke are just excuses to label people in my humble opinion, divide to conquer like the Romans said.

I love your stories and experiences that you bring and I am definitely closer in age to ACE then yourself, so most of us have had that friend who went through a "no meat" stage, but I look at this meal as I would a "halal." Its not the military going woke, but just trying to be accommodating and I respect these people's sacrifices for the country, just I did yours in the 1980's. We're all American's whether we agree on everything or not and we're closer together then not, despite what the media and the fringe of both sides would think. Are the MRE meals that you sample the same ones that troops use, by the same manufacturers?
Or, are some manufactured for civilians?
Just wondering..it doesn't make a lot of difference.
I wouldn't mind stocking some for emergencies like tornadoes and power outages but I wouldn't have a clue where to start. So, instead I try to keep a supply of canned soup with meat and a butane burner with a case of butane. Canned soup is easily recyclable. I am wondering what other type of budget survival foods you might recommend.

Found this explanation of "osmotic" online.....
"The main cause of perishability of fruits and vegetables are their high water content. To increase the shelf life of these fruits and vegetables many methods or combination of methods had been tried. Osmotic dehydration is one of the best and suitable method to increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. This process is preferred over others due to their vitamin and minerals, color, flavor and taste retention property."
So basically they are further dried for preservation.

My sister unfortunately can't eat meat anymore due to a rare side effect of having her gall bladder removed. I've tried some of her fake meat, you put some sauce on it and it's not bad. As you pointed out the taste and texture are close but not quite which for trying to be something it's not is actually impressive.
Might have to see if there are any of these kicking around for her the next time we have a big family camping trip. Might not be able to have actual burgers with us but potato salad and a one of these burgers on a fresh bun would be a good substitute.

Hey Me Ancient, great video. I'm surprised that the tomato based BBQ sauce, was still edible as well. When I was a kid, we called the potatoes "MatchSticks", I think that's even what the packaging called them, not sure. They were always really crunchy, and very salty, but tasty. Yeah I remember the TV antennae days, we had ours configured that we kept a pipe wrench hanging by it, and when we wanted to "fine tune" the reception, we'd open up the window, and use the pipe wrench to turn the entire pole that the antennae was attached to. Maybe it was silly looking, but it really worked well. Don't worry about the negative comments, Father God gave everyone their own free will. He stated his opinion, and I won't agree with it, or else we'd both be wrong!! Keep the videos coming, God bless, brother.

Yeah the fruit tends to go bad in older MREs. I've had old raisins that tasted, off. They tasted metallic and were mushy. Raisins shouldn't be mushy. The applesauce goes dark and tastes off too. And I had old pineapples once. Pineapples are supposed to be yellow. Yellow would not be a color I would use to describe the ones I ate. Brown. They were brown. Tasted fine though. Tasted like old pineapple you kept in the fridge a bit too long but not rotten yet. Also, I love the two pieces of wheat snack bread to make a bun instead of making an actual bun.
