The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

When I seen the scissors on the headstone of Raffaelo Talarico I immediately thought he was a tailor. Those don't look like the scissors that barbers use but instead look like the kind for cutting fabric. I also tried using Google to translate what his stone says and the bottom part says something about leaving his mother in the deepest pain. There is not a photo on findagrave for his stone. Anyways the 1900 census shows that Raffaelo was a tailor and so was two of his uncles that lived with them (his mother's brothers).

Also his mother had 3 children and he was the only child that was still alive in 1900, no wonder his mother was in such deep pain, she had lost all 3 of her children.

It was also interesting to scroll through the pages of that census because page after page it is people that were born in Italy or their parents were born in Italy. There was also a few people from Bohemia and Poland but mostly it was Italy that the people were from and many had immigrated here as it shows how long they had been in the US along with if they were citizens yet. I love genealogy!!!!

My grandmother was a little girl during the Spanish flu. Out of all her brothers and sisters all 10 of them, none of them got sick. She told me how her parents were very aware of how to live through a pandemic since they went through one as young people in Italy. So they never went out without face coverings and gloves. Thank you for you videos. Stay healthy, happy and safe always. Blessed be

There was one stone with the picture of a little girl, my age at the time, that had passed. I used to pretend she was my ghost friend. I know thats where my love of cemeteries came from. Hi Ron! Haven’t had a chance to post yet but I have to tell you how much I LOVE your channel!! I have always loved walking through the cemeteries as a child. Because my grandmother lived next to one, I spent a lot of time just riding my bike around and stopping to look at the pictures if there were any. It always fascinated me as well! The Mt. Carmel episodes are my most favorite and I can’t get enough! I have spent hours watching each episode while enjoying a cup of coffee and walking through with you! Thank you for all you do and I look forward to many more! And thank you to all the viewers who take the time to research these sadly forgotten loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!! 🦃

The thoughts on so many of these people being immigrants is not always true. My great grand parents are buried at Mr Carmel and St Adelberts. All were of Polish decent but born in Chicago. To see their pictures, names and areas they lived could give the impression they were immigrants they lived, ate, spoke the language of their heritage. Some never even spoke English very much because they lived in completely Polish neighborhoods where all their needs were met for food clothing housing church ect. They have very few reasons for leaving these enclaves often referred to as Little Warsaw. On all accounts they looked and sounded like they were fresh off the boat, but in fact were native born American, Chicagoans.

Some of those pictures are so soulful, they look like they would speak to you if they could. Now that I'm older, I have become more understanding of post mortem pictures as well, as I never cared for them but now comprehend so much more how they were important to families of deceased loved ones. It's touching, really.

( St. Mary's) that has a large Italian ' population' , many of the older markers from early 1900's have the photos on them including postmortem photos of children in their caskets. I always found it fascinating to literally put a face to the name on the marker and wonder about what their lives were like.

These immigrants from long ago came here, most through Ellis Island, legally. They took on jobs, raised families, worked for and gained their citizenship. They earned their slice of the American Dream as my Mother's family did in the early 20th century. They helped build this country with the "sweat of their brow" and the strength of their hands. They did not ask for nor were given government hand outs. They only wanted an opportunity, to earn for themselves, a new and better life. Excellent video.

@@stickersdogcat42 We still have an "Ellis Island." It is the process that legal immigrants use to gain citizenship. We do not need hordes of migrants flooding the southern border. They are a severe burden on already strained government resources. Just ask the border states who bear the brunt of this invasion. As part of the legal process, one has to show that they can provide for themselves. The modern day version of the "New Colossus" reads; "Give us your skilled and educated. Please feed, house and clothe your own teeming masses."

Great video!! Love the photoghaphy on the stones of the deceased! Can almost look right into their eyes and read their emotions!! They should do this for ALL graves. A picture is worth 1000+ words.

Beautiful pics and Statues at this cemetery! I love how they dressed in their best clothes for their pictures. I remember only seeing my Grandfather in overalls. He was a carpenter but he did have 1 beautiful suit to wear when needed. Bless them all! Wish I could ask my Grandfather questions today.
    Thank U Ron

So many pictures of the women show older ladies until you realise that many of them are only in their 30's or 40's. Life was very hard in those days. Just shows how lucky we are today.
