The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

There used to be a large green water tower in the center of Mt. Carmel. A huge white cross was painted on the side of it, facing Roosevelt Road. It had a bronze plaque at the base, saying "Built 1927." I could easily find the spot where it stood today, as it was on the highest part of the cemetery. Me and another kid climbed it as kids, on a dare, back in the 60's. I stood on the top of it at 2 Am. That cemetery is one scary place at night. The car's headlights on Roosevelt road would reflect off the tombstones, giving the whole place an eerie glow. When I was on the top of the tower, I could see all the runways at O'Hare Airport. I know many people that are buried there. Capone is there and Frank Nitto [Nitti] a short distance away. Almost my entire family is buried across the street in Queen of Heaven. Mom, Dad, grandparents, aunt and uncle and one cousin, neighbors and many friends. We lived across the street, one block off Wolf Road. Before it was a cemetery', it was a tree nursery. My older brother would hunt rabbits there in the early 50's. I'm the last member of my family left. Thanks for the memories.

Last night, after posting this, I couldn't sleep. Kept thinking about the old cemeteries that surrounded the area where I once lived. I started thinking about two girls I went to grade school with that died way too young, that are buried there. As kids, my pal and I loved climbing the old water towers. They weren't like the modern ones today. They were very old, rusty and and the outsides always soaking wet. Oak Ridge cemetery had one too. Had to climb up a leg, as there was no ladder until you were almost at the top. It was really creepy going up one at night, in the middle of a cemetery. The last one we climbed was the old Broadview -Westchester one, by Roosevelt and Gardner Rd. bridge. A cop decided to take his midnight break, parking his squad underneath it, as we were climbing down a leg. We were stuck up there a good 45 minutes as he sat in the car. Scared the heck out of us. Growing up across the street from a cemetery, I never knew so many important people were buried in it. We moved there in 1950. I really enjoy your vids. Thanks again.

Those photos on graves have always fascinated me. The little cemetery near me, Pease Cemetery in Pease, Minnesota, has only one grave with photos on it, and they happen to be my greatgrandparents. None of the other graves had that, and I often wondered why. Later, as I was older and able to travel further, I found a few more, but not many.
Speaking of stories of many that would never be known, I wish I had written down the stories of many who are buried in that local cemetery as I remember how she said many passed away, but not who the stories belong to.

So tragic and unexpected. Poor little David. I wonder if he had a weakness in his heart muscle, or myocardia? Sudden hits can cause terrible things sometimes. When I was in 3rd grade in Milwaukee, a classmate, Randy, was struck in the head by the person at the bat, swinging back to hit the ball. He was knocked over and began bleeding profusely. I remember his mother coming to the school and getting out of a car. She was crying and looked so frightened. I don't remember an ambulance coming, and I don't remember seeing Randy after that. It's all a terrible blank. He had been one of the most intelligent persons in class.

Such a sad story about the young baseball boy ..it took me back to when my son while playing baseball got hit at bat on the the back of his head thank God he had his batting helmet on and his coach had taught them to turn if the ball was coming at them. He went straight down and I never moved faster out of the stands as I did that day..I thought he was knocked out but he was just stunned and got up laughing... otherwise for the rest of the video the photos and grave markers and monuments were Bellissimo ..bravo 👏 Ron as always.

Regarding David, what happened to him is called "Commotio Cortis" a lethal disruption of the heart rhythm due to impact to the chest. When a person is hit really hard like that, in the chest, it can disrupt the electrical rhythm. If it happens to hit directly during the R-T wave of the heartbeat, it's immediate death in the majority of cases. This can happen to the healthiest people with no history of cardiac issues. It can also cause serious injuries such as tearing organ tissues as well as a tear of the aorta, in which case they would quickly bleed out internally.

So many say how we will not be remembered, and we will just be gone. I’d like to encourage others who think this, though I may be wrong, but I’d like to think that regardless of if we are remembered or not we did live, and by that fact we did impact our world. No matter how small it is, we do make an impact. Let’s do our best to leave a good impact, so that good grows and multiples along the way. I think that is why God made us.

I have to smile when you date things. You're like me, you notice things like just before WWII or during WWI or just after the Civil War, etc. I recall the dates of those events so clearly it seems that they are so important that everything else just fits around them. I'm not a military person but those wars ripped apart so many lives and family, it's like wound in time that never heals.

Second time watching. Just so sad about this kid. I pray his family was able to move forward despite the grief and still live their lives fully. I am sure he would have wanted it that way. It is always so hard on the ones left to grieve and yet still recover.

Maybe about 10 or 15 years ago now, the same thing happened to one kid. Baseball to the chest killed him.
I saw it on the news and then it happened too a few more over time. What happens is when the ball hits your chest, it basically knocks off your natural heart rhythm and you go into cardiac arrest. It also can happen if it’s right in-between the heart beats. It is a very rare occurrence to happen but after it being in the news more, wearing a small, rounded, triangular chest plate over the heart area became more common in kids baseball and probably softball games too. This was not known about, from what I know when this kid died of the same thing.
Again,it is extremely rare to happen, but its worth taking this extra safety measure when playing ✌️
