Here's a little something to help, they used images of the General of the Children's Liberation to protest the law that was going to have even younger children in kindergarten. Also the tree from last episode really got a national historical classification.
AT PRESENT, schools in Korea are on hold because of a teachers' strike. This happened after 3 teachers committed suicide from being bullied by parents. A lot of the pressure on the youths are set by parents. South Korea has among the highest, if not the highest, suicide rate among young people, mostly related to the academics.
The depiction of how exceedingly stringent and exhausting the educational system in this episode is not an exaggeration. This is the dismal reality for many kids in Asia, where they are only seen, valued and loved when they have excellent academic performance.
This particular episode made a huge impact on South Korea’s government as they were trying to lower the school entry age to at least 5 years old. However, a lot of parents then protested the decision with their signage’s making references to Bang Guppong’s “Children Must Play Now!” line. It got so big to where even the Education Minister backed off due to the response. This episode is an amazing example of how you handle difficult subject matter & turn into something that audiences can talk about it in their own means!

This episode is my favorite in the whole series. Having to go to almost experience the same way those kids experience in their schools. In the Philippines since pre school upto 12th grade our classes starts at 7am, it doesn't matter how far we live from our school we are required to not be late so most students wake up 4am or 5am and taking a cold bath in a cold morning. And in school we have 15mins break but the entire school has the same break time, so the canteens are packed with students and teachers so if we can't buy what we want in under 15mins we will have 2 options whether to attend the mext class late so we can have break, or arrive on time hungry and wait for the 1hr lunch time whick will presents the same problem in the canteens being packed, not all students can bring their own food to school. After lunch it's straight classes upto 4pm and after school we still need to do some group assignments or projects or practice some dance projects, and some projects is making our own freaking movie, when we're doing those types of projects and assignments we sometimes got to go home late. The late time I got to go home personally is 1am, then going to school at 7am 😂 my travel time is 1hr from home to school, if it's traffic it'll take 1hr and 30mins. I just turn out different because if I personally feeling tired while in school I will sleep 😂 doesn't matter to me what the subject is 😂. And last thing here in the Philippines we have jeepneys as means of transportation that travels in a route everytime, and can fit 18 passengers in the back and 2 in front besides the driver, at night you can see students going home so tired they sleep in the jeepneys. Even I sleep in the jeepneys on my way home, and sometimes I missed my stop and had to take another jeepney back 😂😂😂
Damn, that a lot. I was used to commute to school on metro 1hr both ways(6:00,17:30) . classes start at 7am ends at 5pm. But my mom had it rough. She had to wake up at 4am to prepare lunchbox's every day for me, my siblings & my father
this education stuff really is actually quite a real issue in korea, if u ever watch the k-drama 'sky castle' (which is great btw, i recommend) u'll understand even further the depth and how bad this type of system and pressure on the children/teens can get - from society, to the schools and parents, it was mostly made for that reason to address this issue and to highlight how these chaebol families (rich business families, upper-class) play that system and their kids like it's monopoly, and how it affects these kids (even sometimes the parents) mental health and developmental issues. would love to see u watch it someday.
I think something that will help understand young-woo more is that a common sign of autism thats not well known is a very strong sense of justice, so thats why sometimes in some episodes she comes off as weirdly emotional about the case, like the copyright, north Korean mom, or this pied piper episode
Never mind whether it's stuff men do for women or stuff women do for men. The important thing she isn't realizing is that everything the cook listed is something the guy she likes is already doing for her all the time--so that should give her a good indication that he likes her if she could put it together. He carries stuff for her, gave her his coat, walks on the side towards traffic, holds her chair, helps her with the revolving door (which is not even on the list, but he does it).
I cant believe both of you didnt get touched by the appearance of the sad orca in the court room :( Woo said it before to Jung, just like how it's trapped and abused in a tank for show and eats frozen food, that's how these kids also feel, with suicide rate n everything, man it's a super deep scene!
18:16 S. Korea is probably one of the most competitive cultures out there. To them, everything in life must be earned, from your wealth, to your social status, to even your own family. Kids are expected to study damn near 24/7 and adults are expected to work till they drop. This is also why Kwon hates Woo so much. Equality is a big thing in S. Korea, but equity is not as valued. Any advantage someone is perceived at having is deemed as unfair, and so the expectation that you NEED to work hard is hammered into you since childhood.
This is 100% normal. I taught elementary school in Korea for 4+ years. I would run into my students leaving Hagwons (after school classes) as late at 11pm if I was out. Children also ride the public transportation by themselves. It's normalized there. The community looks out for the kids.

Yeah, none of them are lawyers yet. Which is why Kwon is so competitive, since he’s up against 2 people who are very smart and have connections. The connections especially he lacks.
I’m black raising 2kids in SK, I love the early schooling, discipline and how they praise learning/teachers here. However I would never subject my kids to the post elementary culture. They post kids scores publicly and the kids bully u if ur too smart or not smart enough. We will be gone before that.
The same sort of thing used to happen in south africa where they'd post the final exam results of matriculating students in newspapers, and it would distress kids so much. They managed to get a bill in place to put an end to that, so that only the child could gain access to their final marks
Tae Su-mi is a candidate for Minister of Justice. Basically the Korean equivalent of the US Attorney General. This would make her the head of the Ministry (Department) of Justice.
That situation IS trash. And if you think it's bad for those kids already, then u should look up on how hellish it gets for them in high school. It's a fckshow for grades. It is one of the best educations in the world, and one of the countries with more people graduating university. But the kids suffer for it
Well, a woman can carry a box, but she is a tiny woman and that was a heavy box, and he didn't need help. If she only would realize he already does this stuff for her . . . because he likes her.
Great reaction video. I feel like he was taken back by her open honesty about her liking him. And in Korea their more respectful and reserved when it comes to opening up to the one you like. I feel he was not being rude to her, just shocked and it took him time to realize that he really does like her. I’m also loving this episode because I feel the other male attorney is just young and not really well adjusted, but in this episode he starts to change his thoughts and feelings and starts to mature more and open his small world to different ways of thinking.
I know they are not going to read this but for those of you are reading this go watch MOVING it's a recent kdrama and.. just go watch it! It's really GOOD!
They call it Mujin academy but I think it’s more like a cram school. In Asian countries (like it’s extremely popular in China, SK, Singapore and Japan) it’s a popular thing where after school hours they have to go to their cram school, private study group. And kids do it until 10/11pm. Middle school student/HS are required to study after cram school. Take this from me, who’s been forced to do cram school in 3rd grade. My classes ends at 3/4pm and I have to attend one after school. It was a different kind of cram school, that focuses on Math and English. (Kumon) Where they hand out booklets and a watch. I have to answer the booklets and time myself. Then if the teacher sees progress I get to level up. (A, B,C, etc so from addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, the fractions and the decimals, some problem solving then algebra up to higher maths.) then they give out Homework like a lot of those booklets. You have to do the same shizz. Time yourself while answering them. Then after Kumon, i have to attend a group study that focus on science. By the time I’m home it’s around 7-8pm already then my dad will have to teach me math again(he’s an engineer). After I’m done with my homework both from school and kumon. Guess, who hates math right now🫡.
I didn't, getting in a relationship with someone with a disability is a big deal. You're becoming responsible so he needed time to think about it and weigh his emotions. Perhaps he was trying to even resist the emotions while liking her but didn't intend to do anything about his emotions.
Junho is not a red flag he's the opposite but since they're not in a relationship yet he's a little jealous of this guy cause she seems to like him & he's not use to see her that close to people but not like in a toxic way, + he's confuse cause they didn't have a clear talk yet & the last time she've run away from him & he's not use to this kind of treatement "cause in drama/Serie it's mostly what men do & not Women" the stereotype, anyway
korean culture, when a guy touches your face, its a sign of affection. some shit like that. lol. this is one of my fave episodes. def. an important subject that the education system in korea is too extreme and needs to be addressed. thanks for the reaction.
Not just of affection, but of intimacy. Koreans are not a culture where people touch each other casually. It was an example of the Korean (and also Japanese) concept of skinship.
Yeah, it's kind of intimate in American culture too; although there is a lot more leeway with premarital sex here, I'd say face-touching is at least an intimate thing and not something you'd do to someone you weren't getting somewhat physical with, even if it would be an early stage.
My favorite duo making me fell all the emotions with this reaction like yo, you guys are fire. That comment about the orca scene and 28:03 made me cackle like a madman
In Korea, it's a bit safer for people to be out at night, however it's been changing I'm sure...plus the little girl could be in a school zone area, so kids are more likely to be out at night for school activities. I remember hearing in Korea in the early 2000s, they let school out at 10pm!! :(
Just like in anime, in Doramas the culture shock is very interesting, these super studious and diligent children are the price to pay for adults "functional in society" there.
I recently subscribed to y’all channel I love everything about y’all reaction vids y’all have the most organic vibes to every vid y’all make I would love to see you guys react to the Japanese anime style Marvel series they did in the early 2000s there’s blade , X-men , iron man , and a solo wolverine story line
I don’t think her mother regretted doing what she did. Feeling bad about something is NOT the same as regretting it. For example, I would feel bad about killing someone in battle, if I were in a war. I would feel bad about his kids growing ups as orphans. But I would not regret choosing to do it. Life is full of choices that are not perfect. feeling bad about the imperfect aspects of what you still consider the right choice is natural, but does not imply regret.
You got to realise that some behaviours might seen sketch in a western context but are pretty typical in eastern cultures and in the global south in general. Because they are less individualistic and more collectivist.
Su-yeon told Jun-Ho that he shouldn't start with Woo-Young if it wasn't permanent. That's kind of daunting for anyone at such an early stage of a relationship.
As for why they live together, they live in a fancy area, which they cannot afford by themselves, and the other girl comes from a rich family, the only natural rich is the boss Jun, who worked all his life as an attorney and its high management. And the f$%* bit%& of a mother of Woo, its Minister of Justice, one of the most powerful positions in Korea...but also one of the most difficult to get, That's why any "dirt" may affect her position.
Why call her names? She did the only thing she could to salvage any realistic chance of a highly successful law career and eventually a political one. Other than abortion that is. In Korea, until just the last couple of years ago, when a child was born, there was no birth certificate signed by the doctor or anyone at the hospital. It was something the parent(s) filed on their own later on. It was possible to go for years without the state and government knowing your child even existed, or who the parents are. So if Su-mi had the child in secret, there would be absolutely no paperwork connecting her to the child. It would effectively be like a closed adoption. The problem was that unless Young-woo’s father essentially disappeared, all of their law school friends and everyone they knew would connect the dots, and it would be an open secret that she was the mother of his child. Eventually it would not be a secret at all. Tae-su was not ready top be an other, she wanted to graduate and get established in her career first. And she certainly didn’t want any ugly (in the context of the prevailing conservative and even somewhat misogynist culture of Korea) rumors been spread about, ensuring that her career, and especially any political ambitions she had, would be derailed. Young-woo's father knew the choices they had, and he could have just told Tae-su to go ahead and abort the baby if he was not prepared to take that deal.
Can u plz watch do, he's the main lead along side haein (Korean actor) It's about a very sensitive topic in south Korea ( life in the military and and the deserted soldiers)
I think she should have just taken up the conversation from before and asked him whether he liked her too. That's the easiest thing to do. Just be straightforward and don't play games.
I don't wanna compare but he basically Michael Jackson not with the u know part..think it Michael Jackson act like a kid bc didn't had a good childhood.. idk it's hard to tell 😢
I mean I would take the case seriously if I was the parents, screw the part where they missed extra cariculars, your bus dirver got finessed and my kids were taken BY YOUR SON? Your school should be shut down that's horrendous, he could've done anything to my child under YOUR WATCH with YOUR SON.
The kid stuff always makes me tear up

I remember hearing in Korea in the early 2000s, they let school out at 10pm!!
:(
The reporter Lee Jun Bum is linked to Kwon as it was shown in episode 7 (the case about the tree).
A THIRD GRADER?! You gotta be shitting me-
We've had a couple of episodes about too much studying causing damage now.
Just like in anime, in Doramas the culture shock is very interesting, these super studious and diligent children are the price to pay for adults "functional in society" there.
They really should watch “it’s ok not to be ok “
I'll wait for you guys to watch MOVING kdrama!! its fricking dopeee
The Pied Piper took children when the villagers didn't pay for his ridding the village of rats.
28:17 this is the moment where i knew i would go to battle with this man
This episode is quite a journey.
I'm so glad i'm not the only one who has mixed feelings on the love interest. mans is so bad at communication
Just wondering, have you guys watched Link click?

Let's gooooo! I'm so excited!
I'm going to need all three of you guys to watch the K- dramas "thirty-nine" and "Tomorrow" with Lupa! Do it!
If you didn't notice, Atty. Tae Su Mi had a big smile of admiration for Young Woo in the courtroom scene when Young Woo was presenting her case.
When this episode started I was so worried it would go in a different direction. So glad it didn't!
@@fordhouse8b its of what she does later, so she is lowlife for now.....
calling her a b is too much, don’t you think ?? weirdo

It's expensive in Korea.
YASSS time to watch and eat some good food 😎

I think she should have just taken up the conversation from before and asked him whether he liked her too. That's the easiest thing to do. Just be straightforward and don't play games.
