    Decent card for Verizon customers. Even though I pay for my bill with the Amex Platinum and have their coverage, I still pay for Samsung Care+ because I have a Galaxy Fold 3 and S22 Ultra. If I had to replace one of those, the $800 that Amex covers wouldn't cover the cost of either phone.

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the biggest gap with all this coverage. They refuse to cover the cost of the full device. They want to cover more like drops than anything else. I use Apple care myself. I'm not sure if I think the card insurances are overrated or not. People love when cards have them but we give them a pass.

    I love this card. To bad I can't get approved for it. This is great for Verizon customers and the Verizon bucks the grocery store at 4 percent back is decent to say the least. Good for if you get a new phone every 2 to 3 years. This card is worth it if none has a better multiplier. Appreciate the video and review buddy.

    This card really isn't a bad option at all if you use Verizon and want that statement credit and a card with some pretty decent earning rates. Kinda cool to see a pseudo store card with some good benefits! They could definitely do better with it, especially with the Autograph card coming in with that 3x on phone plans, but it's a decent option in my opinion still. Nice breakdown RJ.

    Thanks for the info I’ve been a Verizon customer for many years and just recently was offered the card.
    August will be my first month using it. I was using my American Express blue cash back business card hopefully I will get the discount. But I have an old plan. If I don’t qualify for the discount, then I will go back to my American Express where I get 2% cash back.😊

  • @DL-1
    @DL-1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    4x groceries and gas is good. The only problem...not really cash back since it isn't a bank or credit union co-branded card. That sucks too.4 % cash back on gas and groceries is good. Like the Amex gold right? But without the annual fee. Good video. Thanks RJ.

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not bad by any means. It could be used as a cash back card in a sense, freeing up cash you'd otherwise spend on the phone bill. It shoulda been redeemable as straight cash back as well. Also cell phone coverage really hurts it given what the card is intended to pay for.

    • @DL-1
      @DL-1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @E. Max I like cash back. They don't have 1 penny per point redemptions. It's like .8 of a cent per point right? If so, that means that it's slightly better than a 3% card, but a lot more expensive. But if you spend a lot on your card maybe the person can make it even out. Then dropping the 3% point earn on gas is heavy. That's a big earning category. They are trying to cap you. That sucks. That's why people add different cards. I'm personally good right now, but RJ talks about his 5% cards. If I ever need to as more cards, Thai may be where I start.
      Thank you for responding bro. That's a good update. And I appreciate it.

    I know you mentioned that you’re on a family plan, but one of my favorite Verizon hacks is the prepaid individual plans. The cost is as cheap as a discount carrier once you apply the loyalty and autopay discounts but you get the quality and reliability of a main carrier!!

    Pretty much any store or brand that doesn't give minimum 5%/5x back at their own store with their own card can go get rekt. Add the fact that Verizon is one of the most, if not the most expensive plans out there, they need to up the rewards back. I priced a 4 phone family plan and it would cost me about $60 more per month just b/c it is more expensive than what we use now.

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That has always bothered me as well. Especially on annual fee cards like hotel or airline cards. Then they could also do what Hilton does; give a ton of points but the value isn't there.

    I got this card pushed on me as part of buying a new cell phone, but I took it anyway. I was given ONLY $1000 credit line, with good credit, when Cap 1 and Discovery were offering me $7K or more credit line. Synchrony Bank, anything to do with Synchrony bank is difficult to deal with. It may work for some but not for me. No cash back card, just Verizon purchases. SMH!

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  ปีที่แล้ว

      With cards and banks like this, they go for wide approvals and then manage risk with APR's and credit limit. You can have amazing credit but I'm guessing Synchrony also looks at total credit extended for the Verizon portfolio.
      It sucks but it also doesn't as I would only use this card for Verizon. It's enough to pay the bill, maybe not to get a new device with but there are better cards for that as is.

    I normally use my Amex platnium to pay my att cell phone bill because of the insurance. I use the gold card for my pixel since it's on project fi and Amex has had a coupon for the last three months. But with my att bill I have had to change to a bofa cc since I have a high spend on the new bofa card. Once that spend is done will go back to Amex plat.

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every so often Amex gives us a decent coupon. That's the right play, gotta hit those bonus. Which BofA card did you get?

  • @android7764
    @android7764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question. So the pro strat I keep hearing is to get premium cards for the benefits and sign up bonuses and then after a year downgrade to a no annual fee card but what does that look like?
    How soon after a product change could you product change again?
    For example, say I got the Hilton Aspire card, scored the sign on bonus and got a sweet hotel stay. Waited a year and downgraded it to the no annual fee honors card thinking I wasn't going to use it again.
    (Side note for this example, I have maxed out my 5 personal credit cards through Amex)
    Then 6 months later I suddenly get engaged and need to book a honeymoon but I have the crappy honors card. Could I re-upgrade to the Aspire or would I be stuck and have to wait a full year to product change again?

    • @RJFinancial
      @RJFinancial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a few ways to play it.
      1. Bonus hunting - to your point get the bonus, wait a year then downgrade or cancel outright
      2. Sock drawer cards - hotel/airline cards with anniversary nights off set the yearly fee so people keep them
      You're right that you have to wait one full year to product change a card. You can also upgrade a card again. I haven't seen a timeline for how fast you can do this. In this scenario if it's been maybe 6 months or so I don't see why you couldn't. The issuer would like to get you on the more expensive version.
      For this example, it may make more sense to cancel an Amex card to free up a slot then apply for a new Hilton card you haven't had yet, like the Surpass. Or if we're talking other issuers that don't have lifetime language, cancel then re-apply when you need the card/benefits given it's been long enough to churn the card.

    • @android7764
      @android7764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RJFinancial I'm thinking of getting both the Delta reserve and delta platinum cards, then after a year cancelling the platinum and just product change between the 2 levels depending on convenience.
      I was thinking of changing to the Delta blue but then it hit me that I may be stuck there for a year and might cap myself out of opportunities.
      So unless I'm not using the brand AT ALL for the foreseeable year it makes better sense to take a step down than go completely no annual fee.

    I've had the same basic Android smartphone for close to 4-5yrs. Player 2 has something like an Iphone 6-ish. Both work perfectly fine and no one is going to have a heart attack if either gets misplaced. Between having 5 Amex Platinum biz cards with monthly wireless credits from player 2 alone, and low cost Straight Talk plans that *USE* the Verizon network, we're good to go for a while into the future. Verizon itself is overpriced. And new phones are even worse. Go ahead and do your best to try to find the city where 5G was first released. It seems to have been scrubbed from the Internet. But it's the same city in China where they said 'you know what' started. 5G is very prominent in NY and CA -- other hot beds for 'you know what.' The radiation from 5G is unsafe for humans.
