Im loving this valentines day themed short film. I personally interpret it as a metaphorical representation of the most toxic of relationships. The two characters seem to love each other so much yet they hurt each other so deeply. I think the constant change of “outfits” is supposed to represent a transformation in Enya’s character. She is always trying to change for drew, she seeks validation from him. She sheds her skin over and over but it never seems to be enough for him. She clearly expresses her emotional connection to each outfit, but drew is quick to dismiss her. He makes fun of her past trauma and keeps gaslighting her. With the end of act three we see her go through a sort of metamorphosis, reaching the peak of her transformation. Enya is able to become her full self, expressing every aspect of her personality with a loud mismatched outfit. At this point things get really heated. Drew is more upset than ever but enya doesn’t care this time. She is who she is and she wont let drew step all over her anymore. Once again drew attempts to blame the abuse on his own trauma, but enya isn’t having any of it. This is when drew storms off. But as we get to see, enya doesnt run after him. When drew comes back in the end, he does so on his own. He asks her: did u get that?” And enya replies: “yes”. Indeed, she did... A really powerful story!

This piece is clearly influenced by the 1929 film Triadisches Ballett by Oskar Schlemmer. The three acts, with three different colour schemes representing three moods. The first and second act, joyous and playful, representing traditional society and sentimentality. The third and final act taking on more sombre tones, and a darker mood. This embodies modernity and flaneurism in the modern city. Drew's 'Did you get that' is clearly a nod to the voyeurism of 'Berlin: Symphony of a Great City' (1927) by Walter Ruttmann. This is a great piece bringing Weimar film into the modern day.
