    You're going great! Things happen. Night work isn't easy, that's why I did 12hr day shifts, and others did the 12hr night shifts. Concentration slips a bit at night, unless you are a night person. Try to check your rotating parts a few times a day. When you work into the night, check all your gear before dark. Spin, and shake your rotating gear to check for faulty bearings, loose bolts, etc. Check hoses for leaks, and look over everything in general. I used to have a lot of bearing failures on tandem discs. The sooner you notice the failure, the better. Pump some grease into hard working bearings if needed. I've seen combine harvester bearings catch fire at night on wheat harvesting. Mechanically block all hydraulically lifted gear when working on it. I have a nasty "dent" in my right ribs, plus a deep scar on my right arm for not following safety procedures with raised equipment, plus had my left foot badly squashed, and torn up by not shutting down equipment when working on blockages. I've ended up on the operating table twice getting sown up. Took me a long time to get the message! IT'S ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST! Eat healthy food, and snacks. Nibble on fruit, nuts, sandwiches, salads, etc. We ate while driving. No meal, or coffee breaks. The Case Steiger tractor had a refrigerator installed for our food in Australia. Driving trucks on the USA wheat harvest, I used to be addicted to Silk chocolate soy milk...drank it by the quart. Air conditioning dries out the air in the cab, so you need a lot higher liquid intake. You're doing just fine! Expect equipment failures; just try and catch them sooner rather than later. Best wishes, and take care

    I have never,ever have seen any farm guy or girl explain how farm equipment functions in such detail.

    Then Dad shows up,oh crap!

    This gives me so much hope for America and our farmers. So nice to see someone so young take an interest in and master these skills.
    Thank you for sharing how you feed America and I wish you tremendous success in farming and with TH-cam.
    Also kudos to your family for sharing these skills with you.

    Good job getting at fixing your mistakes. Funny that you wanted to fix it before anyone else found out. That's how we all think, we just don't have a TH-cam channel to tell everyone. Love it. Keep up the good work!!

    This was great. Dad didn't seem too bothered. I really liked seeing more of the equipment and the maintenance. I'm a little surprised that this equipment fails this way and the operator has to be so careful to not go backwards with the implement down. It seems like there could be a lock-out or some mechanical way of preventing this problem.

      Well. You can't protect everything from all the wrong ways it could be used.
      Shouldn't go 80mph with a trailer. Shouldn't put a cat in a microwave.

    Hey Laura, my Wife and I are liking your channel. I work in the chemical industry, when people want to come into this industry or others, when they've farmed it's nice because we know in all likelihood they have a great work ethic and have a general understanding of how electro mechanical systems function and how (mostly) to repair them. My Wife asked what your Major was, you may have already mentioned this.

    Today's tractors are so much nicer than what I drove. I drove many that didn't have cabs. Baling wheat straw without a cab in 95 degree weather with no cab. And in the days before portable music.

    • @HootMaRoot
      @HootMaRoot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guessing back then you had to have someone travelling round with a banjo for your musical entertainment lol

    • @Kingfisher1215
      @Kingfisher1215 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HootMaRoot are you trying to draw a parallel between Deliverance and me? Or is it that the banjo is somehow connected to country people? Have you ever been to a bluegrass festival? Or listened to say Steve Martin play? Now a more pertinent question, have you ever done farming or ranching? Have you driven a tractor?

    • @HootMaRoot
      @HootMaRoot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kingfisher1215 why so serious
      I spent most of my childhood working sheep and the land, bloody hell most of the tractors I used back in the 90s had no cabs or radios

    Farming isn't easy work. Stay hydrated and keep energy up. Back when I did asphalt, I would shovel asphalt by the ton pile daily. Never bothered to calculate it but some of the intricate jobs would have me spreading 20 piles or more in an 18+ hour day. In the summer heat it was nothing to drink 3 gallons of water and not have to pee but maybe once or twice.
    Slowly working through the videos! Keep killing it out there!

    Probably a good call on waiting. I forget how many times I got the job of fixing what my father messed up because he world try to fix it while exhausted. This is the first time I got a good look at the closer wheels; those sure have changed since the Allis-Chalmers 600 series I used to run - a rubber tire with a single rib that packed the furrow and was the mechanical drive for the row unit.
