The table is so not used to DM Heckling because Matt is a sweet heart who needs to be yelled at to accept a compliment but meanwhile over on D20 people scream at Brennan that they will eat his ass when he keeps rolling d6-es and Brennan just smiles sweetly as he adds another one lol
“HOW MANY DICE IS THAT YOU FUCK?!”
Also by the end even the rest of the tables heckling him
@@PhantomLantern2814 They are lol, Lou rubbed off on all of them ^^

Shout outs to when they considered kicking Brennan's ass in real life to beat a tough encounter.
“How many dice is that you fuck?!” Is such a Lou moment

The delivery is absolutely world class.
The "where are you weaker" question really just immediately set the tone about how insane the finale was going to be.
Oh absolutely my jaw hit the ground and I KNEW it was gonna be BRUTAL and god damn Brennan delivered
matt: my darling players we will go on a grand adventure
brennan: YOU WILL FIGHT THAT DRAGON SO HELP YOU GOD
To watch the light leave Travis's eyes after "Dad, why is your ring glowing?" Hurts my heart. A gosh darn masterpiece
What does it mean when his ring glows?
@@Lliamhd it glows in the presence of a lie
The quick “why are you like this” from Aabria (I think) sells it too. Just horror at what Brennan’s unleashing.
I love how in such moments Sam and Travis, the irl dad's spirits just plummet
I can't even fully explain why but Travis' genuine, surprised and tearful "I do...I do" after the exchange "This will be our final roll of the campaign" "You have bardic inspiration" gets me so bad.
The last character standing choosing to live with the love and support of his friends who are already doomed... the beauty of storytelling through mechanics
And the thematic beauty of the only survivor being the one magic-less guy in the whole group... never gets old.
@@onilink134and the fact he does the impossible, literally meeting an "impossible" rating check, without any magic beyond the inspiration of a soon to be dead friend, ei. the power of friendship
The beauty of Zerxus screaming at the lord of the 9 hells calling him a child is the perfect choice. Showing the hubris of the entire city by doing that is amazing
"a highlight video that's almost an hour!?" **Remembers the episode was over six hours**
"Ok, that's fair"
I honestly did try to cut it down even further but I was just removing too much good stuff! 😂
@@TheeSweetboy It's all so good!
I love during every game Lou plays while Brennan DM's he always gets so angry and starts to bully Brennan.
so funny, everyone else is quiet and in shock and lous just "HOW MANY DICE IS THAT YOU FUCK!?" and brennan just grins. that's a real friend right there

More like he tries to bully Brennan, only for Brennan to reassert that he is, in fact, inevitable.
lou not having the fact that 30 minutes into the session that they havnt passed 1 second of combat time gives me life
“At the beginning of time, the gods made all the gold there ever will be. There will always be more people...”
Such a raw line in a series full of raw lines every other scene
God just the fact that Patia got her arm severed and pushed back still to not survive rest of the explosion gives me chill
It was a completely insane moment that I didn’t expect at all!
@@TheeSweetboy absolute insanity Brennan was the perfect pick for this one-off
@@Just_Tyree This Mini-Campaign made me purchase Dropout and i've not been dissapointed so far!
Patia would know the regeneration spell exists, so...
@@VeteranVandal its the fact that she still didn’t survive even after the possibility to
I can't believe Brennan backstabbed another of Lou's characters like that.
It’s becoming quite a habit for him!
And somehow Lou's survived both of them.
If I had a nickel for everytime that's happened, I'd have 2 nickels.
Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice
Also the second time he had a fellow pirate betray Lou's pirate. Luckily, this one didn't want to shit in his mouth.
This coup would not come true.
Legitimately I think Sam's "Seelie you Later" speech is his best moment in all of CR, which is saying a LOT
The wall of force before is such a clever move. The speech is so well written especially how he thematically ties the 2 cities to a marriage while playing a divorcee. The delivery when he mentions Laerryn is so perfect you can hear the tears and it gets me too. And then he caps it off with a hilarious sponsor bit
It's just such a perfect representation of Sam as a player and a person. He had a funny bit character and made me feel deep emotion while laughing the entire time.
“After decades of fantastic posture-“
Sam immediately sits straighter 😂
*dragon growling noises followed by a surprised "oooo-"* "We don't have time shut the fuck up."
"Seelie you later" section was so good. Easily one of my favorite moments in the history of Critical Role. Sam is an absolute classic.
My god he even got the sponsor in.
Sam always finds a way to raise the bar!
If I've learned anything from CR it's that Sam Riegel never misses an opportunity for a sponsor plug
It's one of the very few times I've ever seen Brennan get that close to tears.
40:30 Marisha jumping and hugging Lou and him fully picking up Marisha and spinning is a perfect reaction to a homerule'd roll landing a nat 20.
"To reach a hand down, they have to be beneath you"
Started and ended on a 31 Investigation- this is some of the best work I've seen within the realms of DND, EXU Calamity was done incredibly well and was so poetic and desperate through it all
This series has been my favorite in all D&D. Just masterfully played giving ALL the emotions.
Sitting Lou and Marisha together was an amazing choice. They both react more physically.
Aabria LOVING that story beat when Asmodeus turns on Zerxus is A+ especially after the round table she was WAITING FOR IT.
Sorry but I don't need The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2, I need this, fully animated, all the same voice actors, it would be incredible
Exactly what I was thinking
Well apparently the renewed Amazon deal makes mention of animated movies so…
@@RogueHippie13 I only just saw this. If they made an animated movie of this I would literally pass away
@@RogueHippie13if they ever decide to do a movie, I really hope they make it like 3½ hours long. It's at least 15 hours of game play, and since it's such a short series, every little thing that happens is so important to the story that I couldn't see them being able to remove or change much of what happened and how it happened. I'm also selfish and just want a really long movie lol
I also need this animated, with figurines, and fully articulated doll/action figures. Basically I just want more of this 😂
@9:56 lou is a seasoned veteran of getting annihilated by brennan, this is the EXACT moment he knew the ed gein was gonna jump out, he's already walking away while everyone is screaming and it cracks me tf up every time
This session really did have such a glorious abundance of absolutely Shakespearean lines from every single person, but I can’t help but hold “Zerxus! The bar has been set! Come meet me, brother!” above all others as just a single concentrated ingot of ‘If we are to end then we end in glory’.
Praise Lou Wilson, the one person brave enough to tell Brennan Ascendant to go f*** himself.
The hole part of Sam Silvery Barbing Travis to give advantage to Marisha, and his final healing word, just show how much of a MONSTER player he is! That man is a freaking genius at DND
That silvery barbs almost killed them all though haha. Travis definitely had lethal until he was given disadvantage and missed. I think Brennan recognized that would have made everyone a little salty, so he gave Travis that last chance for a hit.
@@MugOfMilk Remember that Brennan initially said the spell still goes off though. He then had to retcon it due to the counterspell failing (for obvious reasons). So when Sam used Silvery Barbs he was doing it under the assumption that Travis eventual killing shot would not per se prevent the Powerword:Kill. With counterspell being the only way of preventing it from going off it was the obvious tactical play (then again, its really not how Silvery Barbs works according to RAW so we have to assume homebrew either way).
@@johanlassen6448 Looking back it looks like Aabria was the one who said she didn't think it stops the spell, and that was in reference to an attack from mage slayer not automatically stopping a spell. The kill would have definitely stopped it, but she didn't know it would kill. Sam gave him disadvantage for the same reason, he didn't think his attack would kill regardless. You can then hear Travis say he would have dealt 38 hit points after the advantage counterspell fails, and at that point it looks like Brennan decides to give him another chance realizing his HDYWTDT was taken away by the silvery barbs. Brennan made the one more attack ruling to make it more fair. At which point we get the sick natural 20 anyways so it didn't matter luckily haha
@@MugOfMilk He didn’t miss, though. He would have hit Vespin had he not cast shield. The last die really gave Travis the chance for a Nat20 so it’d be easier to roll 35+ on those d6s.
Yep. and the fact that at THAT FINAL HEALING WORD, I swear you can almost see from Travis and Marisha what might be the dawning realization that this is the second time Sam motherfucking Riegal has saved the day at the *BEST POSSIBLE MOMENT* with a timely reaction that NO ONE saw coming. First, the inspiration-distraction counterspell on Vecna, and now, him standing in a corner and picking his teeth until he gets the chance to save his wife from the clutches of the void with a perfect line "Do not leave me."
Lou's "It will be done" speech is honestly incredibly moving, you can hear how choked up his character is god I love him
The way Aabria is LIVING for the chaotic evil twists from Brennan during villain rp and immediately turning into a loving puddle in the scenes with Travis’s kids or Quay is sending me.
i've said it before - but if i ever come anywhere near saying anything as beautiful as Brennan's masterly final sentence: "Calamity is here - because of you - it will not last for ever" - i will die a happy DM and man
I love that Marisha, instead of saying “excuse me what the fuck did you just ask me?” Actually spent a moment thinking about it and gave real reasoning whether Patia would have weak elbows.
As much as I absolutely love the chemistry between Lou and Brennan, I cannot get past how phenomenal Luis and Brennan play off each other. Every scene with them was perfection.
I really want to see Aabria as a guest in campaign 3! Her GM work is great but when she actually plays one character she’s INCREDIBLE! The chemistry of this entire group of people is off the charts!
I think I’d love to see any of these people as guest starts on C3. They’d all be amazing!
@@TheeSweetboy Absolutely but Lou is only allowed if he sits next to Marisha. It’s the law. I decided.
@@sandraschafskaese8471 I agree!!
i was gonna say; this aged well :D
@@cl3matis so glad!
I love how Brennan helps Sam out in the Seelie You Later moment mentioning Silvery Barbs as a potential solution because he too wanted to see that rich powerful corrupt official get completely fucked over 😆
"Thankfully, your arm severs at the shoulder as the blast throws you back and you are not pinned to the tree, with some way to survive and witness what is to come" OH MY GODDDDDDD
Yo Travis being a DAD in that moment fucked me up.
31:50 ordering the entire staff of the corrupt government to die with the city they abused is fucking beautiful!
Guys, seriously. Could you imagine Sam and Emily in the same campaign? That needs to happen.
I think we need to include Ally as well
Oh Gods, if all 3 of them are at the same table, I think the world would collapse into a chaos singularity
Let’s not forget Laura
"We almost had it alllllll" 😂
(But I 100% understand putting Emily with Liam and Tal (the CR emo RP heavy-hitters so to speak) Emily can do it all, but that group needed some levity
6:21 the moment Lou smirks and shields himself from the evil to come lmao he knows knows aCoC level uno reverse is coming and he dissociates before he can be triggered lmao
Also Aabria and Travis’ reactions here are soooo satisfying! Aabria and Lou and Luis knew what was coming but Travis Sam and Marisha looked so shocked by how raw Brennan made this moment.
Lou actually looks like. “Brennan… come on man… I really want to come play on CR again… don’t ruin this for us…”
I can just imagine Cerrits wife and children react when he stands in front of them After all of that
I love the response for Lou, "Hey how many dice is that, you fuck?"
If I had a nickel for every time Lou was backstabbed by some one he trusts I’d have two nickels.
which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.
I love looking at the others reaction whenever Brennan is focusing on one of them in the group
They could tell something was gonna come up with cerrits kids for example but the emotional damage as they take it in as it goes on.... fantastic ah I love this
I was 20 min into that episode and I felt I needed a nap, a break, food, just anything this was so intense!
I think the first hour of the session is just one second of in-game time! It was so intense!
It was worth staying up till 4am in the morning to watch the entirety of this epsidoe
Same
If Brennan doesn't voice Asmodeus when this gets animated (not if, when) I will be. Disappointed.
YES I KNOW RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After hearing her talk about "hot villains" I had to watch Aabria during the "I was right" bit at 5:40 and man was she really feeling Asmodeus 🤣
It really speaks to the strength of both the GM and the Players that the Highlight reel is STILL almost a -second- hour long
I love that Lou and Marisha are each others emotional support people
You forgot to keep in "We're off Keto!"
"I didnt do anything WRONG." Oh holy shit!
i have watched the entire final episode of calamity two or three times, and a handfull of different clip/compilation videos of certain moments countless more. it never gets stale, it never hurts less, and it leaves me feeling both completely satisfied and longing for more! someone call up the LoVM crew, cause i can and will throw all of the money i have at my disposal at a kickstarter for a full feature length film of EXU: Calamity
I saw this comment in another highlight video. Watch Lou from 6:31 who didn't move for 1 minute. Only his eyes said "He's doing this, again..." And that at 9:56, Lou react before everybody else. Because he knew what Brennan was about to do D:
“This motherfucker right here. This guy. “
9:18 and this moment of Lou playing peekaboo to hide from the immersion until the body horror😅
and only getting up to wipe the shivers off his arms after that lmao I love him.
Who do you think dealt more emotional damage to Aabria in this campaign? Brennan or Sam? :D
I think Sam!
yes
Sam
Sam for sure
I was listening to the podcast version while working. And I had to fight off the tears that were forming like God damn
Who won?
Me too!
This entire mini campaign basically made me love the entire Realm of Exandria.
I need all the critters to peer pressure everyone to come back for EXU divergence where we see the divine fate be created and the divergence begins!!!
Watching Lou 110% expect the twist at 6:20. Has absolutely no reaction to it
That is a Lou Wilson who survived "A Crown of Candy." Here for it, but knows what Brennan is capable of
The way he cuts his eyes at him before…
9:55 "and he pulls the back of your head and rips the skin off of your skull" 😳
16:00 the whole family scene was gut wrenchingly well done damn
And Sam says he dosen’t know the rules....
Yea, the bs. I think he forgets from time to time.
Gotta commit to the bit
When I DM'd, my favorite thing to say to a player was "how do you want to do this. Always makes someone's day
Travis more often than not comes in clutch with these nat 20's.
"shoutout to Sunny" I missed that up til now

Aabria and Travis were perfect next to each other, but so were Marisha and Lou! Marisha jumping into Lou’s arms, and Lou spinning her around at Travis’ Nat20 against Vespin was adorable 🥺
I loved Brennan as DM. I loved how short and powerful this mini series was.
This was as intense as the c2 finale FUCK
15:25
Holy shit....
Travis's face, the dialog, the tables reaction, the f*cking *LOUD AS F×CK* silence
Oh. My. F*cking. GOD.. these guys are good...
This mini series was the best bit of DnD I have ever seen in my life
Watching the cast's reactions keeps me coming back again and again
Going from quay dying to mentioned cerrits children made me panic so much!
Cerrit saving the kids, and then being the sole survivor of the Ring of Brass, was GUT WRENCHING. Travis and Brennan had me SOBBING 😭😭😭
When the funny moments take an hour to show
I honestly tried to cut it down, but I felt like I was leaving out so much of the moments that I enjoyed!
I can listen to Seelie's speech for DAYS ON END
Ok but can we talk about the vespin fight circumstances!
Everything played its role and i don't think there was any other way for that to happen
If the first attack had gone through travis would need a 35 without double damage which would be hard to hit
Without silvery barbs the shield and that second attack being on the exact armour class the shield would not have triggered leading to once again travis rolling for 35 without double damage
Given the way the dice rolls went that was almost definitely the ONLY way for them to stop the power word kill
Except if the counterspell had worked of course... I mean what you are saying is that given the way it played out it could not have played out any other way, which - no offense - is kind of a no shit sherlock statement.
@@johanlassen6448 well yes but its not something that (i atleast) realized before rewatching the clip but other than the counterspell working the nat 20 was the only possible way for them to succeed
Except for you can hear Travis say would 38 damage have killed him, so he had apparently rolled above 35 damage even with the crit. So funnily enough if he had not been silvery barbs it would have technically played out the same way, but the silvery barbs was still an amazing play, and it gave us an amazing nat 20 moment.
@@jamesmcnair671 It would have been 38 with sneak attack, which he didn't get because silvery barbs. There was no way of any of them knowing before hand he would have done just barely enough damage if he had hit. He wouldn't have hit anyhow though. AC was 17 and he rolled 17. Defender wins ties.
i think travis summed it up best. sam. fucking. riegel.
I wish before the end Clip you would have included that cerrit survives and then the "why do we tell stories" part comes after it
If only I had the skill to make animations, I want to see that ending play out on the screen so frickin badly
Oh good, I get to hurt again.
Brennan is such a great DM
6:45 not Lou watching this knowing full well it was gonna happen
I feel like they all needed self care after that
Lou is amazing!!! Perfect monologues in a high brim accent.
I absolutely love the “and I squeeze their hands” bit
any one who wants to use my idea can. My head cannon now: Occasionally in modern day Exandria/Tal dorei? (i never remember which is the world and which is the continent), a heroe, or group of heroes will show up. Plunging into fights against agents of the betrayer gods, demons and devils. Giving no quarter, asking only for occasional bits of knowledge and seeking no reward other wise. Coming from all back grounds and social status, from martial to mystical and everything in between. No one is sure of their true purpose but they always fight against evil as best they can while searching for something. Bound by oath, creed, and purpose they seem to have no connection to each other. But if one is observant, one can find on all of them what appears to be a simple brass ring, always etched with at least one phrase. The Brass Ring Endures.
I think that sence serrit survived and said "the brass ring endures" we will probably see some form of that organization in the actual crit role campaign in some form or capacity even if its only the player characters hearing about it, but thats just a guess
not labelled as the brass ring, but ive seen a theory floating around that maya (cerrits daughter who has an aptitude for history and was given patias orb with her whole life in it) maybe started the cobalt soul? i dont think I've even seen a full post with the theory laid out, just a few things in comments and fics but it's really appealing to me and idk if theres anything in canon to oppose it!
@@rey4391 according to official sources the cobalt started about 100 years before the start of campaign one i believe. But there is nothing sropping any one from changing that for their campaign 👍
In modern day, It's a magical item called the Brass Ring of Endurance.
@@drakhoon Maya Agrupnin could have helped start the idea and died prior to building of the Soul? The Cobalt Soul’s emblem is encircled with a brass ring. Just seems too familiar for them not to do anything with. I hope it’s clarified soon.
I swear Critical role needs to be sent my therapy biLL
6:36 gives me MAD chills
I didn't even watch ExU but I'm still brought to tears
Lou experiencing the full bard Riegel with Loquacious speech is a mood, everytime Sam takes a role like that magic is made.
I think this campaign meant so much to me because I fell in love with Matt’s world the moment I started watching actual play, but brennans DM style keeps me coming back to actual play
When they animate this, they need a 3hr extended version.
Absolutely fucking incredible.
Oh just the highlights huh?
~1hr long
Sounds about right for an EXU ep.
I need Lou and marisha in more things
They really should make this whole mini series for Amazon prime.
The glee in his face as he’s decimates the party OMG Dungeous Masterus Horribilus
Never played D&D but between this and D20, I think I wanna start
the way the highlights is literally an hour
Everyone really brought their A game
Hype man Travis is the best
We need Brennan to play someone in either Legend of Vox Machina or the Mighty Nein animated shows. But the question is who tf is worthy to have Bennan Lee Mulligan play them?
I just realised wall of force would have prevented power word kill. Even though it's not classes as an attack it requires LoS to kill a target. And wall of force is classed as granting total cover to a target even though it's invisible. Meaning he wouldn't have had LoS and power word kill would not have worked.
Oh! That's probably why Aabria asked about line of sight in that moment!
