She’s actually rlly fucking smart, the show didn’t just follow the ‘fashionable women are weak’ stereotype, she was strong and independent and probably better at evilness than Olaf was 😌
It's kinda scary how sweet she presents herself to the children at first. I remember watching for the the first time and they almost even convinced me (who read the books before watching) that she was only a shallow rich woman and not murderous villain. She really is a Vile Fashionable Dame wouldn't you say?
Alternative Ending : Hooky leaves Olafs troop and adopts the Bauldelaires. He teaches Sunny more epic recipes and they open a "Father and Daugher" restaurant when Sunny become old enough
She was definitely a bit more clever than Olaf was, at least in her first appearance, but she gave a few hints. "Even though I am unbelievably wealthy" was meant to lure them into a false sense of comfort because she wouldn't need their fortune, and "let's stop talking about depressing things like people getting kidnapped" was meant to keep them away from finding the Quagmires. Just a couple things, anyway
The only actor who ever tried to balance her character and making it there own. Amazing, perfect, talented, never the same I love her so much and I’m so depressed more people don’t know about her talents.
She is an alert on children(and adults as well) why we should give value more for reading, ethics and not so much for financial wealth, bourgeoisie's "in" lifestyle with vague pleasures. yet they pull off it without the typical misogynistic depiction of golddigger thankfully. I've seen a lot of people just like her (but less extreme) outside the show, in fact I've just seen them today so, the message is *unfortunate*ly what we need in our life full of people who will do anything for their selfish greed.
I'm just gonna say it. Esme was a way more fun/engaging character to watch than Olaf (or any of the other villains). And that's huge props to Lucy Punch for her own spin on Esme because I found Esme somewhat bland and one dimensional in the books. She (and her soundtrack/theme) are honestly one of my favorite parts of the series.
I’ll be honest. No matter how many times I hear the Ersatz Elevator’s theme song, there’s always this little part of me that half expects “the Baudelaires are taken in by people who are rich” to be followed up with a less polite rhyme regarding Esme
She is so ICONIC omg i was OBSESSED with her character for months and would dream about being her. She was the my main reason for watching through the seasons because i loved everytime she was on screen. Which is probably why I haven't bothered watching the final season because i cant deal with the fact that she is gone
Allow me to play Devil's advocate for a moment here. Esme only wanted the sugar bowl to complete her tea-set. She didn't want the CONTENTS of the sugar bowl. Therefore, if Beatrice and Lemony had simply moved the contents of the sugar bowl into a different container, then Esme would have had her completed tea set, and would therefore have never indulged in a life of villany and revenge. Beatrice and Lemony Snicket were entirely at fault for the Schism and for the Series of Unfortunate Events that followed!!!
“I’m going to run around in panicky circles.” “This couch belonged to the king of Arizona.” “I’m always happy to help! I’ll just slip into something more terrifying and be right down.”
Idk who this actress is But she ATE this role up. She reminds me so much of Esme in the books but still has her own twist that makes her iconic. I love it
Wow. Lucy Punch not only completely nails this role, she is *lethally* sexy playing it in a way I’m not used to seeing in family movies. Seriously, when she revealed herself to be evil with that wicked, mocking laugh, it sent a shiver through me from my head to my toes. That was pure dominatrix energy. And that black lipstick she was wearing during the auction, with those piercing eyes and that sultry grin full of malice … let’s just say I had to pause to get a hold of myself, and possibly of a few other things. I’m not saying I’d turn villain if she came to my door asking nicely … but I’m not exactly confident I’d be able to say “no.”
She’s actually rlly fucking smart, the show didn’t just follow the ‘fashionable women are weak’ stereotype, she was strong and independent and probably better at evilness than Olaf was 😌
