You can be so amazing! I have watched you for years and, yet, you still throw in some nuggets of pure gold! I don't try to flatter with dishonesty, that is for sure, but you make me come back, over and over, to see what else I may have missed....and I am 69 years old!!!! Thank you so much for your interesting, and entertaining, thoroughness!!!
Welcome to this wonderful channel. Emily is a wealth of knowledge about all things makeup & is the kindest human being ever. Hope you hang around and subscribe! ❤️
Bought a small size brush at cvs years ago. It's labeled MUA and it's perfect for my small hooded eyes. Have not found high end even close to same size
I also have a small flat brush from MUA that I use the same way Emily does. It’s probably stiffer than the one she suggested in this video but it does the job!
My skin is very sensitive, when I was looking for makeup brushes I bought a set from Eco Tools. I love the Bamboo handles and they are extremely soft on the skin 🥰 I wash the brushes every week with Unscented castile soap... many years later they are still my favorite brushes to use. Take care everyone 🌹
My DG just got a remodel with produce (huge for a small town)!!! And they now carry profusion. Which is great because my Walmart has never had it. It is nice to see their product in stores instead of just online, or just around the holidays! ♥️ I have bought a few of their eyeshadow pallets for $5.50 and some brushes. I am really impressed!
I did a Show and Tell at work about makeup and many folks were surprised that you could find affordable, quality makeup AND brushes at the drugstore. I love my Elf duo face brush & Total Face sponges and my Profusion eye brushes, especially the small pointed brush! Love you! :)
I like having 3 or 4 of the same brush so that I can use them during the same makeup application without having to stop to clean the brush. It is also nice to have more than one of each brush so that when you have washed the brushes and they are still drying. It is nice to own affordable brushes for these situations. LOVE your real life content Emily. I love that you are realistic with the content that you post
I'm older now, and the technique you showed with the eyeshadow was helpful!! I have hooded eyelids, and I'm going to use that technique!! Great video, thank you. ❤
Drugstore brushes always have me confused where I feel like I have a big mashup of brushes I don’t know what to use them for. So I have been getting BK beauty brushes. I know they are expensive but the way Lisa explains their use I feel like I know what to use them for.
Hey Em! Great recommendations! I would also add the WNW brushes that you can find at the Dollar Tree. I have Rephr, Sigma, PML brushes and I daily use the WNW brushes (white handles) especially for inner corner and packing on shimmer. They hold up for years, stay soft after washes and don’t shed! Completely underrated.
I always buy Profusion brushes at Black Friday. They are fantastic. Apply well. Wash well. To speak of washing, I use the Real Techniques brush cleaner. It's fantastic as well.
@@shanhare76try to make sure your not getting the handles themselves wet. They are only made of wood so when they get wet and especially repeatedly, they will start to crack and the paint will chip off but as long as you ensure to keep the handle part dry they should be okay.
Emily that's why I love your channel, you always teach us something, buying brushes on a budget, I really need that and I have taken your advice not just with brushes but with affordable makeup. You do more drug store and affordable makeup then any other Contact Creator I watch. Your advice pays off and I love you and your channel. Thanks for being you and keeping it real. Luv you.🤗💋 Happy Valentine's Day 💝❣️💘💖💗🌹🌹🌹👍✔️❗
I love sigma eye brushes, they offer so many options and I know what you mean about needing smaller brushes for hooded eyes, otherwise my eyeshadow looks like one giant blob and all the colors mix together!
I tend to wash my eyeshadow brushes quite a bit more often then say my makeup brush that I use for setting powders or finishing powders due to the fact that I use the same product for that step in the process.
Absolutely love the Elf Putty Primer Brush. I use it for foundation and cream blush. Buffs foundation in like a dream and disperses cream blush beautifully. Very soft on the skin and only costs a few euro. A gem of a brush! 🤩
Oh, thank you so much for this informative video Emily! You have no idea how this helps me to understand all these brushes that are out. I'm 53, but still very much a beginner makeup user. Btw, I have an old Revlon eye lash curler that I absolutely love!
My Dollar General carries Profusion brushes and brush sets. In fact I picked up one of the fluffy crease brushes yesterday for a back up. I absolutely love that brush and the other pinched one that you love. Also ELF makes a nice flat brush as well. It is half moon shaped with a clear handle. Great video Emily !!! ♥️♥️♥️
Hi Emily..absolutely loved this video. You cosmetic application is perfection!!! You must have the proper tools to do your job well. Thank you for the excellent content! This look is gorgeous on you and your skin is beautiful!❤
Great video! Thank you for all your hard work. I was watching an older video and had to comment. I just watched your 1/2/24 video, Full face of makeup under $10. Eyelash curler by Shiseido, Cookie Monster hand mirror by Sesame Street!! Only you, Emily! Love you, Girl! ❤😂🎉
I bought that Sheseido lash curler and ended up giving it to my daughter for Christmas. I have smaller, deeper set eyes, and it was more shallow, so I couldn't use it without pinching my eye. I've always used the Revlon one, and it fits my eyes better. ❤❤
The elf small smudge brush has been my go to for years for inner corner and brown bone highlight!! When I can’t find a flat eyeshadow brush I reach for the flattest concealer brush I can find, it works pretty well 🫶
Thank you for explaining the uses of each brush. I have so many brushes and don't remember what half of them are used for mainly because they are not labeled. Ty!
*Eye Brushes* . I asked for a brush video along time ago, this video delivered. I really like my RT brushes but finding the right eye brushes has been challenging for my small hooded eyes. Thank you for the great explanations of "why". Many thanks to you Emily!
Thanks for making these basic tools and methods videos every once in awhile. I occasionally direct people to your channel when I'm out in the world as a good place to start.
FYI ELF also makes a “color switch” tin. Great small size for only $4. I got mine from Amazon and it has a hinged lid which is great for someone like me who tends to misplace the lids.
Hello Profusion…. How about a “Emily’s collection” set of Profusion brushes? Let her curate a set or two…. ‘We want a flat brush”… “We want a flat brush”! 😉We’d ALL buy a set if ‘Em put her name behind it. ❤️😊!! #profusion #affordablebrushes
I was dancing and so happy when I saw the title of this video 🎉😊 Emily you always come through with recommendations and answering our questions. Thanks. I hope someday you come out with brushes and a palette.
Thank you! This was a great tutorial on brushes and techniques 😊 I just bought a couple of these brushes last weekend after seeing you use them on repeat. I also picked up an Elf putty blush plus the Elf putty brush to go with it. Love them both!
I have found a couple of brushes from target that I still use every day that help me apply my eyeshadow on my hooded eyes. But these profusion brushes have been such a God send! Love that they are so adorable! I’ve been looking at the face ones to get!
Regarding eyelash curlers, I have had a good experience with a heated eyelash curler from Amazon. I wonder why influencers don't use them. If you ever decide to test a heated eyelash curler on camera, I will be so happy to get your opinion. Love your channel!
You don't have to break the bank to have excellent brushes. The huge sets always have a lot of brushes you will find that you push aside and never reach for. Been there and my grand daughter inherited them. I had a brush declutter and if I hadn't reached for that brush it left the building. O love the brushes I have and a lot are elf brushes. Real techniques has some really nice brushes as well.
This is one of my favorite videos, especially since you focused on the eyes. I've always thought I was pretty good with make-up but have never been confident about my eye make-up and I think it has to do with tools. I have a butt-load of eye brushes but never sure which one is the best for what. This video cleared that up for me!!
Thank you for doing this video! I am newer to makeup and I hear over and over the brushes that everyone uses. I am not so great at eyeshadow looks yet, so I figured that must be part of it. I now have a couple rephr, ABH and Sigma brushes and I am not any better with those then I was with my Elf, morphe and essence brushes, LOL! 😂
Thank you so much Emily!! This was such a great video and extremely helpful for a old lady like me who is enjoying playing with make up in her 50's! Your tips were so helpful!!
I bought that dual ended elf brush at your recommendation a while ago (at least a year I think) and I love that thing! I also love how much you talk about your brushes, it’s made me look at my collection and think about how I can use each one differently or multitask. Great video as always, and you looked beautiful as always too!
I think eye shape is the key for eyelash curlers I have the shu Hemera bu I think that's made for almond shape eyes I find for my round eyes the tweezerman for like 14 is the best. Yes definitely worth spending on that item. I haven't tried the shiseido but I've tried many
Great video, Em! I love getting back to the basics! Another affordable brush brand I really enjoy is Moda. They have some great sales, and some really fun colors and designs for their brushes. So many influences use expensive brushes (which I think they mostly get sent in PR, so why not use them?) but I don't want to spend $100+ on brushes so my drugstore ones work just fine!
Thanks so much for answering my question about a sub for the Sephora 56. I wasn’t sure if you saw that! two great suggestions. I’m usually at Target so I’ll check for the RT one. I still have my Elf blush brush from years ago. I have a very large RT brush that I never use. I find the smaller brushes better for me now.
While drugstore makeup isn't for me I love the Elf Duo Complexion Brush-very user friendly and easy to clean. I also have the Real Techniques which work well. Ty Emily...yes to the little pink puffs to!😅😅😅😅
I started watching you sometime this last year, I'd guess sometime shortly after you released this video. I'm a brush "nerd" and I own far too many different brushes. I've learned quite a bit about how to use different types of brushes from watching your videos. Some of my favorite drugstore eyeshadow brushes are the Sonia Kashuk brushes at Target. I don't see many people mentioning them and I'd love to see you what you thought of them. I really love the way you explain everything. I've learned so much about makeup application from you. I've been wearing makeup since the early 80's, took "modeling" classes, did theater in high school, and you've still managed to teach me things I didn't know. Thanks for what you do!
I started following you and others for the first time mid last year and learned so much from you. Brushes and tools in particular, but products too. I wasn’t a TH-cam watcher and even if you are a seasoned makeup person like myself or so I thought, I learned even more. My favorite long time lash curler is shu uemura. Lasts a long time. Love the elf and profusion and even the powder puff. Thank you so much. ❤
Hey Em! Love ya and excited about this video! I love drugstore brushes and makeup. I'm also loving the relove tubing mascara. Holy grail status for me. I'm on my 5th tube!
I think this is my most favorite video that you have done!! I’m always excited to see that you’ve posted another video! You create the most beautiful eyeshadow looks! I so appreciate your drugstore finds, and don’t feel the need to buy high end. Thank you for all you do! Your girls are so adorable and sweet.
Also! Thank you for recommending drugstore brushes and explaining what each brush does and how to use them. I’ve never really known what brush would work best and how I should use it. You’re a life saver (face saver!). ❤✝️🌸🦋
Happy you explained your brush lingo .. for over a year I’ve been in search of that Profusion crease brush . I’d buy what I though you used , read the wording and thought where does Emily get that . Mystery solved . Thanks !!
Hi Emily, how are you? This is such a good idea and really helpful especially for those just starting. I am a brush fanatic so I maybe adding more after this video 🤭 I have the elf duo complexion brush and the tapered one (your recommendation) which is no longer available and it’s ones of my faves! So happy I have it. I watched the whole game right until the last TD and missed it but woke up literally right after 🤦🏻♀️😄 Anyway, I hope you’re having a good afternoon 🫶🏽
Yay! I hope you enjoy this one!! :D It's been a really good day - dad's bloodwork & oxygen levels checked out well and he got out of the hospital yesterday... followed by a very good night's sleep at home! we're so thankful! Have a great day!!
What an awesome video! Thanks for the great tips! Elf has an awesome flat brush that is available at Walmart for like 2 bucks. I have a couple of them I use daily. Love your channel ❤
Such a helpful video! Not too many do videos on what brush, why, & how to use them! Some of us older ladies need a little direction! Love you & your channel, my fav❤️ Thank you so much 💜☮️💜
Thank you, Em, for these review videos. I’m sitting here going, “Oh yeah, I forgot I had that brush or technique”, etc. I really appreciate you doing them. They are very helpful! God bless everyone!
Fun fact. There is a famous portrait of Lord Byron hanging in London's National Portrait Gallery. It was painted by Richard Westall who was my first cousin, five times removed! Emma x😢
I want to say that I bought the Shisedo lash curler based on your recommendation and I have never been happier with a lash curler. I put off buying this one for years and I finally give in and it was worth every penny. I have tried a multitude of lash curlers and none come close. Thank you for the years of fantastic recommendations.

Hi Emily 👋 I have 3 of the elf dual ended. I use it for everything. My favorite brush. Would not have found it without you.❤❤❤
ohh yay! So glad you love it too!!
I have a backup too, couldn't be without it!
I also love that brush and have several of them!

aww I'm grateful for you too, Nancy!! Thanks for being here & happy Valentine's Day!

I always buy Profusion brushes at Black Friday. They are fantastic. Apply well. Wash well. To speak of washing, I use the Real Techniques brush cleaner. It's fantastic as well.

I got a set of Japonesque eyeshadow brushes from Wal-Mart back in 2020. Best brushes ever.
10:01 I love tried many powder blush brushes and the ELF blush brush is by far my favorite
Wet and Wild makes a very good lash curler I’ve been using it for awhile
I’ve started using detailed concealer brushes for my metallic eyeshadows - there’s usually a small flat brush for acne!❤
Thank you for recommending Profusion brushes. I love the Firm Blending Eyeshadow Brush so much, I could do my whole eye look with it!
I have a lot of high end brushes including Wayne Goss, Rephr, Sonia G and Bk beaty but more often than not l reach for my Elf brushes over them.
You are right , I use all drugstore brushes , I got the blush brush from elf because of you and works great❤.
The elf small smudge brush has been my go to for years for inner corner and brown bone highlight!! When I can’t find a flat eyeshadow brush I reach for the flattest concealer brush I can find, it works pretty well 🫶

I have a red Wet N Wild eyelash curler, I think I bought it over the holidays. but its my favorite!
Happy Valentines Day to everyone! 💖
I use a lot of Real Techniques, Sonia Kashuk (Target), Profusion and Elf. Also have some Morphe & IT brush I love for setting powder.

What an awesome video! Thanks for the great tips! Elf has an awesome flat brush that is available at Walmart for like 2 bucks. I have a couple of them I use daily. Love your channel ❤
Hi Emily, love you and your videos!
I feel like a lot of looks recently have been neutral. Can you give us fun pop of colour. Bright green or lilac 😍
Thank you for all the helpful tips! ❤. Loved the look!
I love your videos, you are so knowledgeable. Thanks Emily!❤
You are a gem in the utube space Em!! Your tutorials are easy to follow and understandable. Thank you!!!😊❤
I bought the dual ended brush from elf today hope i like it as much as you do!
GREAT video! Thanks so much for the obvious thoughtful care you put into your tutorials! 💖😻
I LOVE this video. I’ve watched it several times, rewinding the blush and eyeshadow. Thank you!
Profusion has great brushes! Also, Ulta brand brushes are great too.
