  • Washing cloth diapers when you are a crunchy or pursuing a natural lifestyle can be hard! It's hard to have a natural or crunchy bent, but still, clean your diapers well!
Hard water also affects a cloth diaper routine. But, you can still remain a crunchy or natural mama and have a wash routine with products that are plant or naturally-based.

So you can’t use dr bronners to clean cloth diapers?

It's a great question because castile soap like Dr.Bornners is a great alternative to many chemical products. There's two problems with Dr. Bronners and cloth diapers. First, it needs to be strong enough to lift away human waste and there just is not enough evidence to support that it will. Secondly, soap is not generally safe for your washing machine and with continued use of any soap it might break down. Having said all that there is one Dr. Broneners soap that continues to make a splash :) in the cloth diapering community and that is Sal's Spuds. There is actually a write up on it in the Fluff Diaper Detergent index (I'm going to add that link to the video description). They still will not recommend it, but will give you a general guide if you find yourself needing to use it. Another option some people decide to do with castile soap is to hand wash the diapers. I personally will use castile soap to spot wash my cloth diapers, but not fully clean the diaper. I still firmly believe that a detergent and soap are completely different and it is more safe to clean human waste with a detergent. Long answer! :)

Did you say you use TWO CUPS of the detergent per diaper load?

I had to go back and listen and I totally did say 2 cups! I should have said two capfuls. Goodness I'm surprised I didn't catch that.

Ok that makes much more sense! I was thinking "how does that not end up costing $100+ dollars a month in detergent alone!?" 2 capfuls is more reasonable. Thanks!
