      Hey, y'all! This is ~almost~ raw audio from the microphone. I touched it up a ~little~ bit in post-production (which I had to experiment with in order to arrive at this review's conclusions) but what you hear from this video's microphone audio is pretty close to being achievable straight out-of-the-mic. The only major adjustments I made were adding a minor compressor and somer audio gain.

    Did bro just post a review of this microphone without even using it with a XLR cable? Isnt the whole point of having a XLR input to make the audio better, maybe you could of made a comparsion between USB and XLR, so people know what sounds the best? But, I guess this particular microphone is not targeted for such audience and only has it as a "gimmick" to sell more? So you think you get the full packadge like the sm7b and sm7db+?

    • @itstheBMAC
      @itstheBMAC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I reviewed this microphone by focusing on the DSP features that this microphone offers. If I wanted to solely use an MV7 with XLR, I'd use my MV7X - and that's what I'd recommend to others as well. Comparing USB-C to XLR would not be a fair comparison in this video because the XLR audio would be raw, unprocessed audio, while the USB-C audio would be enhanced with the DSP features built-into the MV7+. Hopefully that makes more sense for you now as there is no "gimmick" here. I'm simply explaining the features that the MV7+ offers over the other options with a focus on the DSP which is, for all intents and purposes, the "point" of this microphone. For the record, by the way, there is no "SM7dB+" - just the "SM7db."

    • @CarbonRacingYT
      @CarbonRacingYT 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't call the addition of XLR a "gimmick" lol. Just because this particular review didn't include a demonstration of the XLR, it's all of the sudden a "gimmick" lol, some people just don't use their brains sometimes! 🤦
      For $279 this looks like a total bargain, unless you are an SM7B snob and think that the SM7B is the end all be all mic. In all honesty the SM7B is out dated and in need of an upgrade.

    • @drgandalfai
      @drgandalfai 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CarbonRacingYT it might be outdated yet it's the go to much for major artists, Podcaster and more. That also doesn't cost thousands. It is pretty much the end all at this time.

    I'm having a hard time deciding between the Shure SM7dB and this microphone. Is there a true sound difference? It would be lovely to hear a side by side comparison of those two!

    • @itstheBMAC
      @itstheBMAC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's hard to directly compare them because the SM7dB is usually used for achieving more "raw audio" that is processed in post-production. The MV7+ is meant to be more "plug-and-play" where you can add all of the microphone effects such as compressor settings, auto level settings, etc, within the MOTIV Mix app which makes the whole process a LOT easier if you don't want to have to deal with editing the audio in post. Does this make sense?

    • @Fade_Bloodlace
      @Fade_Bloodlace 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@itstheBMAC Yes it does, and I appreciate your response. I'm starting to do voiceovers and I have complete freedom to choose whatever system I want, (so I don't mind extra gear and post production), I just want to make sure it sounds as good as it can. But I think they are close enough that the advantages of the MV7+ (in portability and versatility) are weighing more heavily in its favor. I'm not sure that my audience will really notice the difference - only us audiophiles will. 😉Thanks for this video and response. It really helped me make my decision.

    You forgot to mention that the MotiveMix Desktop App is still in Beta now, so you can't change any input/output settings and format.
    Also if you try to connect MV7+ to your iPad, you can't record in Stereo. Mono only.
    And you can't connect it to an iPhone with an Apple cable (iPhone just doesn't see MV7+) You need a cable from Shure (sold separately:)

    I was not sure if something is wrong with my dt770s or this mic is making some strange noises. They're pretty quiet, but I can hear them when you speak.
    After relistening to some parts of the video, it really seems like the mic makes some noise and it is most probably due to it clipping, because the gain is too high and you are speaking very loud when being very close to the microphone itself.
    Also, background music is a bad thing, if you're making a microphone review. People want to hear how the mic performs, not to listen to some lofi

    • @itstheBMAC
      @itstheBMAC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There was very little clipping, if any. I have a pretty dynamic voice when filming and the microphone can only do so much at setting an “Auto Level” when my voice performs this way. Furthermore, this is a review - not a microphone test clip. Background music was therefore a stylistic choice that I 100% stand by. If you want a straight example of what the microphone sounds like in an isolated recording situation - not in the tutorial situation I personally use this microphone in - Google and the TH-cam Search Bar are your friends. I review products based on how I use them, otherwise I’m being disingenuous. Thanks anyway for stopping by.

    Only USB connection able to have the new features? How about XLR

    • @itstheBMAC
      @itstheBMAC  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will need to connect through USB-C to your computer in order to take advantage of the DSP features.
      From Shure:
      The MV7+ does not support power via the XLR connector. The MV7 will only power up when connected to a supported device via USB or Lightning. The XLR connection provides audio directly from the microphone capsule, just like other professional dynamic microphones, and does not include any processing selected in the Motiv App regardless of whether the mic is powered or not.

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      XLR is an analog connection where USB is digital. They cant interface with the mic audio for dynamic features with XLR for that reason. If your trying to edit XLR audio, youre better off using 3rd party audio editing software no matter which mic youre using

They did that with the MV7-X being XLR only, which is what I bought a few years back because I could care less for the USB side of things and saved quite a lot of money. Just food for thought for Shure. I doubt the tooling would be that big of a deal to not include USB-C and/or the headphone jack. The idea is that it lets you know when your mic is “hot” and not on mute. At least we get the ability to choose a “low” brightness setting but, yes, those who want to disable the light altogether probably should be able to.

      @@itstheBMAC Perhaps setting it to a solid color that blends with the mic color is possible? Damage control at least. I also see the RGB lights are not possible when in XLR mode.

      @ Honestly, if it’s that important to bypass the lighting when connected via USB-C a little “gaffer’s tape” would be perfect. It’s black, doesn’t leave residue, and can easily be removed and will blend in!

      @@itstheBMAC I could have articulated my point better. I'm just comparing the processing on the usb output to the XLR, which I understand isn't completely fair. I don't think it sounds bad but I'm not a huge fan of the tone, noise and lack of body when using USB (vs XLR to a decent interface), and I feel like it's nice that they included it, because it adds versatility to the mic (like using it on your phone, on the road or something along those lines, but there is a lot of hand/cord noise if you try to use it hand-held)
      I personally wouldn't use it primarily on usb, knowing I could be outputting xlr to my interface. And if you are looking for a USB mic specifically, you can spend less.
      Thanks for the video.
