- Okay, let's try this again. FIRST.... Thank you to Katherine and Nae for commenting and letting me know the embarrassing FAIL of uploading the incorrect file to TH-cam late last night.... :: sigh::
Thank you guys so much for commenting and letting me know! You saved me and many others from having to sit and watch that horrible RAW footage.smh... ( Send me your email and you are getting a Starbucks gift card for having to sit through that and watch me be so un-lady like... LOL... but no seriously. Send me your email :-) )
Back to this video I hope it provides you some insight how I spent my 12-13 hours working in the ICU. As mentioned working in critical care is unpredictable, but this is basically the structure to my day.
Don't forget to let me know how you structure your day. If you have any questions please leave it in the comments section.
Thank you!

Hello, and thank you for the video. I will definitely watch this again and take notes. I am a new nurse. I just finished my internship. I am feeling extremely overwhelmed, to the point where I get depressed just thinking of going back to work. I know it will get better, but I am having a difficult time right now. Every shift I feel so scatterbrained, and I am just running around trying to get caught up. I am hoping your video will shed some light on how I can better organize my nights. Thank you!!
That depressed feeling will hopefully go away. You will feel more confident and you will learn some muscle memory for some things and spend less time "figuring" things out. With more time you will learn how you can be efficient. Don't forget to ask for help if you need it. I will try to think of more tips to help new nurses out. :-)
Sounds like you are always busy. Thanks for sharing your day!
Thanks for this video! I used to have a routine that i wanted to follow daily but it never worked out and was making me stressed when different priorities had to take place. Now I have a checklist that i use so that i dont get overwhelmed & still accomplish all that i need to for the pt and next nurse. I do what i can but I had to remember I cant always do it all in my shift. So I just ask the next nurse to try to get whatever done for the patient, & they do the same when I come on. Bedside nursing is a 24hr job...3 yrs later and i still have guilt leaving things for the next shift lol
flippcrazy I don’t think that guilt feeling will go away. I asked peers how they managed it all and the stressed to me that it’s a 24 hour job and that it’s part of the job. Im feeling better as long as I really tried my best. My peers were telling me I’m going to run myself into the ground if I don’t learn how to get through that. Obviously if I have a critical patient, code, or just a really high acuity patient I feel better because I know I was caring and doing everything to keep them alive. On other days with more stable patients I can only try my best.
You complete 1 full assessment per shift and focused assessments as needed but you do vitals every how often? When doing interdisciplinary rounds what do you recommend to always have prepared?
You're welcome girl nw!! As nurses we gotta have eachothers backs!!! Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming bc I love listening to them on my ride home in the morning after a long night shift!!! ♡♡♡
Don't forget to send me your email for the egiftcard :-)
This video is so much better than the first one you did. Thumbs up for me👍😊
HAAHAHA THANK YOU for commenting.. I would have gone with my day without knowing the wrong file upload.
Please send me your email and your getting a starbucks card :-) ( Thanks for being brave enough and watching the new upload)
iFitnurse you're welcome! and I don't drink coffee, but can it be a Walmart gift card instead? 😁 Sorry not trying to be picky. Here's my email address naecharles32@gmail.com
Nae you should receive it within the next 4 hours. Please let me know if you do not receive it by the end of the day. :-)
Great, awesome! Thanks iFitnurse 😊
iFitNurse thanks 😊
Hello! Thank you for this video I really enjoyed your full explanation about a typical day at the ICU. I am a student nurse and I'll be graduating on December! I'm so excited! However I am stuck in 2 decisions, I can't decided wether being a Med-Surg nurse or a Pediatric nurse (I know totally opposite fields) lol idk if you have any advice for me or any comments I would greatly appreciate it :)
Thank you and congratulations on your RN license! 😊
If I’m right, you said you live in Tx right? I wonder if we work at the same hospital?? My hospital does bedside report also and we both got our BSNs from UTA 🤔
I work for an HCA facility so I'm sure they have a partnership with UTA... Work sisters!
iFitNurse how did I not know you work for a hca facility. I do too 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾.
iFitNurse ahh okay! Haha I’ve just always had this suspicion that we worked for the same facility and/or system hehe. I work for the Baylor system.
I loved this video by the way!! You are routine goals. I also have my own routine that I like to follow, but it’s not always possible unfortunately.
In your icu you only assess patients once? We have to chart an assessment every 2 hours 🤔
Ronyelle Shannon I shift system assessment per shift and you can do focused assessments when needed.
I'm a new grad and I'm always feeling behind , forget something , and get out late. Not sure if Trauma/general surgery is too much for me (although I like it)or if it's just going to be like this for a while. I'm always looking around thinking am I the only one struggling? Hopefully it gets way better because I don't want to transfer.
How long since you started working?
Stick it out. With more time you will get used to it and your time management will improve. On rough days I too feel like I am all over the place. I think it will get better, because in my two years I feel that I have definitely improved, but not where I really want to be.
yes I will try my best...night shift is a stuggle to adjust to as well.
Audrey U I've been on my own for about a month
Great video as always Girl! What are your favorite Starbucks drinks to order?
Thanks for watching! Grande Americano with Light Heavy Whipping Cream and 3 Stevias.. ( sometimes I order it with 2 butters mixed in)... During the summer Vanilla Frap with no Whipcream.. and if I just need coffee... Pike Place with Cream :-) How about you?
iFitNurse Americano with white mocha sauce. I know you’re on the keto diet so the white mocha sauce is not keto compliant but it is so so good.
I don't like leaving my patient's room dirty for the next shift nurse to clean, let alone not doing my job on taking care of my patient. If pt needs to be cleaned or turned, I'd make sure it is done before I do bedside report. But that's just me.
Thanks for this video! Is there a particular brain sheet that you recommend?
Hey Diana on my Etsy shop you will see a few different versions that I used. The Nurse Report Sheet with 1 Patient Per page or the sheet with 2 patients per page are my go to.
