Ukraine wasn't initially "sandwiched" between NATO and Russia. NATO slowly crept up to Ukraine's borders, we couped their leader who wanted to be neutral (Yanukovych) and installed our puppets, then NATO began speaking about letting Ukraine join. So Ruasia invaded because that was a problem just like we always knew it would be. Look up "not one inch eastward" and "nyet means nyet." You can find our promises to avoid NATO expansion and how much of a problem we knew expanding it would be.
@@lorenzotheauthor4 all of E.Europe was sandwiched. Most of it went west, with only BEL going east, and it's not because an excess of honesty and integrity from RUS. Yanukovych didn't want to be neutral, he knew he had to pick a side and wanted to go east. West and east were going to share borders eventually one way or another.

If you're saying Russia would've just swallowed them back up and reconstituted the USSR that's a fun thought exercise, but what really happened is that the West swallowed the former Soviet states after promising not to.

Ukraine is a nato partner though? so when one of the nato partners is invaded although not legally obligated to come to their defence nato will for it's best interest? is that not the function of all of these alliances? Like they don't have article 5 but we have some form of shared interest in cooperating and thus helping one another?
I'm just a little confused if we zoom out really this is still "communism" vs the west, like russia/china they present themselves as communist countries although that is probably only a part truth. Like the real question is does America still like to lead the world with capitalism or has it turned out that capitalism is just as broken as communism was and now we have problems at home we can't be bothered to defend our ideals beyond our borders cos everything is broken and in actuality things would be better if we could come together as a whole in peace and harmony?

There's a 12% profit margin, not counting the speculators and share price gains. (100 Billion in profits, only for 'defence', annually)

This is so dumb. Remind me the last time a NATO nation was invaded by another nation? Strange how before NATO, for two thousand years the European nations would go to war 2 or 3 times each generation, or once every 6.5 years.
Everyone knows Ukraine will end in negotiation. The problem is Russia is demanding, that before negotiations even begin, before they will consider a single solution, Ukraine must first permanently abandon their claim to all the areas Russia currently controls, 2 major cities Russia has never controlled in the war, and the returned of Kherson. The largest city Ukraine recaptured during the war, where there were those incredibly moving scenes of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians swarming the town square to welcome the liberating Ukrainian army. To even suggest those people be forced to go back under Russian domination is truly disgusting.
