I got onto Amazon to buy one of your books. But just double checking, do all your books include photos/illustrations for each of the drills explained? In the preview, there's only 3 pages where there's none of them. I am getting motojitsu master program vol 2 in an e-book by the way. thanks.
AZ Geek Not only bike riders, for any riders it should be the word. Stupid is everywhere, we should save ourselves. They can be with bikes, cars, trucks, busses and so on
Got my first bike a week and a half ago. I was very slow on starts keeping to the MSF "slowly release clutch and then apply throttle when you start to roll." Starting slow does not make other drivers in Brooklyn happy. Tried the technique in the video and didn't stall or have cars up my a** when the light turned green. My confidence also shot up without the fear of stalling at the light. Thanks. Now time to absorb the other material!
congrats! Go practice and remember the MSF is just an 8th grade level education, much more to learn above and beyond that...my videos can help. I have an entire playlist for new riders.
@@chellewill8119 you'll get there. Then there will be another fear, then you'll get over that. Been riding for almost 3 years now, my initial fears have been conquered, but now there are others. Have fun!
I have been riding since 2004, I'm 50 years old and still consider myself a novice I am so glad I found your channel I have learned and practiced so much of what your teaching on your channel. Your presentation and explanation is understandable.... Thank you soooo much for taking the time and doing it right.
I guess too many people miss the part where I say ensure the intersection is clear first if you take off. Make sure there isn't an idiot about to blow through the light, obviously. MotoJitsu.com
This is the most important point. If you are two seconds late on the start, nothing serious happpens in 99.99% instances. If you dont spot the idiot blowing through the lights at 50mph and he hits you, your chances to stay alive are poor.
Jumping into intersections is always a bad idea. Pick a lane coming out of your lane split, get ahead of that car but dont jump into an intersection! It always looks clear until IT ISNT. Dont hang out in the intersection on a left turn either. Cool skill, but bad advice.
Love your videos and I always learn something new. Being in Florida where lane splitting is illegal, this isn't an issue. Also in Florida and I realize you just said it, the morons here constantly run red lights. I wait at least 2 seconds before I proceed on a green light and even with that i was almost wiped out about a year ago when a girl ran a red light about 3 seconds after my light was green, then yelled at me.....complete assholes in Florida. You're sooo lucky to be in California.
Have to say, thought I was an OK rider - until I started practicing some of the maneuvers that I've seen in your videos. It's been informative, humbling, and confidence inspiring. A genuine Thank You for sharing your experience and knowledge, and for doing it in a way that's easy to grasp, and put into physical application (thankful to have closed parking lots close to home).
@@MotoJitsu , I plan on it sir. Recently bought my 1st on-road bike (2012 klr650), and every day out I find more areas I think I can improve on - especially as this bike is still new to me.
Hello. I was the guy in the blue shirt! Anyway, just wanted to publicly acknowledge how amazing FastEddie is. I met him in person, and just want to say that I learned more in the 30mins he coached me than I have in my years of riding. As an extra, he put me in the back of his GS and we went around the parking lot while he knee dragged! I weigh 190 lbs, and for him to do what he did with all that weight was really impressive.
Hes already said hes made sure to check before just taking off. hes not just taking off as soon as it turns green before making sure some idiots running thru a red light to hit him in the intersection or he wouldnt be here teaching us these techniques...stupid is literally everywhere, especially in the youtube comment sections
Can’t get enough of that take off. I wasn’t expecting it! I can’t stop watching it. I’m learning how to ride a motorcycle late in my 30s, and taking of at intersections and steep hills kinda scares me. Sometimes I do it right, sometimes I don’t and frustration gets me precisely because of my safety, but your videos are very helpful in gaining confidence, which is one of the most important things.
Man can't believe I've been doing lots of these stuff instinctively that you explain in details without realising how much more can be elaborated. You are such an excellent safety mentor & after 31 years on the road with my bikes & car , there's still so much to learn & have fun. 👍👍👍👍👍
Any chance you can do a part 2 and show your tach, clutch, and throttle from 1st person perspective? I guarantee you’ll get a few hundred thousand views!
Why you don't have more subscriber is beyond me, I've been riding on the road since 1979 my first bike was H1 500. I wish back then someone like yourself have shown me all these tips. Great videos,!
As a new rider, this is exactly what I need. Thank goodness for a long driveway where I can practice this and the white/blue belt stops while still hitting 20mph. Keep up the good work, @motojitsu!
Hahahaha...if I decide do lane split....and if I decide to take off quickly, I don't go above 25 or so...it's just the initial jump to get ahead of the cars, I don't redline lol
Your instructions are awesome. Thank you. Just returned to riding after a 25 year hiatus. I am learning to ride all over again. Actually, I am learning to ride for the first time. Never cared about safety, just speed. Two prosthetic hips later, I am now on a cruiser and concentrating on the basics this time out. Thanks again.
Yes, you're the 6th person who said that so far and every one of you missed the part of the video where I say ensure the intersection is clear and the people on the cross traffic are stopped...obviously I'm checking to ensure no one is running the red light...I would be dead if I just took off at the moment the light turns green.
Hi mate, I did hear you mention it briefly in the begining. I just thought it is so important to emphasise this point, particularly for the inexperienced riders who might see your vid. Better they hear it 100 times than get T-boned while practicing a quick take off from the lights. Thanks for the vid.
If people don't know to check cross traffic and are just taking off like a mad men...that's on them. I can't explain every single little detail...my videos would be 3 hours long. And even I don't mention something, it's all just what I do, each person is responsible for their own safety.
The point you're skipping is that once you launch with your technique you have just committed yourself to be in the middle of the intersection in the next half second. You can check for cross traffic 1000 times and be right 1000 times. But the day will come when because of one thing or another (slight curve in the cross street, some trees obstructing a complete view, parked cars, whatever) you just didn't see another bike or maybe a low sport car like a Miata running the red light at high speed. On that 1001 time you are dead.
this is an area I need to improve on, I'm not great at getting away as quickly as you. I can get away enough to stay out of danger, but still practice makes perfect.
Good advice. May I add one piece myself? When stopping at a red light, pull all the way over the the side of the lane (if going straight over) so that any vehicle NOT stopping at the red light does not kill you. This applies to stop signs and give way junctions, too. I have had this happen. I stopped at a red light knowing that a big truck was right behind me and we were both going quickly. I pulled over to the very edge of the road and the truck - some 20 to 30 thousand kilos of it - sailed through the red light. It would have killed me for certain. It was inches away. Here in Japan almost all (I can confidently say more than 99%) of truck drivers are courteous and safe, and the speed limits are lower than in Europe / the UK, but every so often.... In another comment below, someone mentioned 'right of way'. Cyclists here of all ages very frequently assume that 'right of way' and 'the physics related to stopping a car' are one and the same. I have seen many cars hit careless and daydreaming cyclists on crossings/at junctions. Also cyclists here often ride on the wrong side of the road, especially school children. As many have said, assume that the car drivers are careless and vengeful and that they want to hurt you, even though in most cases that is not true. I like this guy's presentation style.
My goodness... Taking off like that might actually encourage people to race you at the next intersection. I ride daily too (and lanesplit everywhere) but I only try to get a jumpstart to pick a lane, mostly not to annoy people. Annoyed drivers are the most dangerous in my experience.
Well said. This is also a reason not to position oneself in the overtaking position when in a queue of traffic. Better to go in the middle but with a decent gap in front, if not filtering.
Benjamin Smith no offense but I can’t tell if ur being sarcastic or just giving stupid advice no way should u ever ride or stop at a light lane splitting or completely alone in the middle of a lane on a motorcycle that’s literally the place with the least escape routes, the worst line of sight , the least visible and not to mention 90 percent of the highway dubree and road hazards will be caked up along the middle of lanes and in the rain most hydroplane problem areas are in the middle of the lanes .. I hope everyone understands that and practices staying on the the sides of lanes with the least hazards or if both have hazards the least deadly or less traffic or the side without exits or turn outs .
Dude thank God for TH-cam and Good Semaritans such as yourself...Your're saving a lot of new riders and inexperienced riders every second you put out these life saving videos..Thank You Brother and God Bless....
But that’s kinda risqué because someone may be running a red light and could hit you as your taking off. I usually tend to wait a second or two. Make sure no one is running them lights
this happen more often at night but regardless I've seen a hand full of cagers and even a few truckers running lights. vigilance and common sense is key
very helpful! Improved a lot the smoothness and agility after preloading the clutch and throtle. Even for slower take offs. Thanks. Fernando - Brazil - Daytona 675r
I see soooo many people running red lights these days there is no way I'm launching myself into an intersection as soon as the light goes green. I'd rather get swiped by a car going 5 miles an hour than T-boned by a car going 40 . Stupid is everywhere - Best quote everywhere.
First comment! Haha. Hi, Eddie. That´s what I usually do. Just to mention that we all need to pay attention to the cars from left and right intersection, not just from the two on our sides. That´s what it happened to me. Someone passed the red light and I can´t stop in time. All I could do was to try to pass (zig-zag) behind the car and I hit with the right-hand brake the tail light of the car. I´m recovering from my left patella injury. Regards.
1 year into riding and just found you in the TH-cam abyss. There is hope as I also hold my GS with my legs at a light. Thanks for your time and videos. B
Thank you. I'm a noob. I was making a left hand turn today and stalled out. Thank god I didn't get killed. I'll go to a parking lot and keep practicing this technique. I need to learn how much my wet clutch can take. Was taught for years in a car to minimize clutch transfer time. Love your videos. I can tell you a truly a nice guy.
That’s a great explanation of Lane Splitting too. It isn’t legal here so I have no experience with it. Thank you. This will help when I am riding in California.
I love this technique. I do this all the time too. I live in Thailand at the moment where pretty much anything goes. I do it for the exact same reason you do it. And if you think drivers are bad there come to Thailand. If I see a Thai on a bike I feel I am somewhat safe, If I see a Thai in a car I am scared. If I see a foreigner on a bike I feel scared, if I see a foreigner in a car I feel somewhat safe. But here you own the space you occupy only, you can't feel safe around you at all. I laugh at all the western people who drive here and lose their cool if someone invades their space lol. There are so many people on the roads here that this is just how it works. If people didn't drive like this you would never get to where you are going just because of the volume of vehicles. You have to be on your guard 100% of the time on public roads here.
Yeah I've ridden in Thailand, it's intense. I even went down into Phuket a few times. There's an amazing twisty mountain road up in Khao Sok national park, though if you want to ride it like the tail of the dragon, you'll need some luck to not get stuck behind a slower vehicle.
HUMMMM, I haven't driven that section of road in Khao Sok National Park but I am sure it is good. There is so much good riding here in Thailand but yes there is a lot of traffic and you have to be very careful when overtaking. I have driven in Phuket many times. I love the section of road between Surin Beach and Patong Beach, amazing quick twisties with the ocean and the ocean breeze on your side, doesn't get better than that. I also like the trip from Patong Beach to the big Buddah, mostly for the scenery on this one and not the road.
Good stuff Eddie, I was hit once because of not getting out fast enough or maybe the car behind me just getting ahead of himself. Fun thing is I ended up sort of drifting forward with my bike turned like 70 degrees to the left and I don't know how I did it but my reaction was to hit the throttle really hard while in first gear and somehow managed to turn the bike the right way and stay on both wheels. Just had a tiny bruise on my right leg but every time I think about this, it could've been really bad for me D:
I do this every single time now away from lights etc, not only has your instruction helped me pass the two tests you have to do in England they have also made me a better rider!
Hi buds! Just wanted to let you know I was at an intersection today with a kid on a hot rod bike and watched him do exactly what you're talking about - tried to get away fast and stalled it! The bike behind him almost ran into him. Your vid jumped into my head immediately!! Earlier in the day up by Julian, saw a guy on a Harley try to make a simple left turn, oversteer, stall and almost dump the bike in the street. Can't put enough emphasis on training, keep up the good work!!
I always pull up hard to the drivers side in stopped traffic, one day the car coming up from behind rear ended the car in front of me if I wasn't hard over I would have been crushed. But only lately is it law to split traffic in Washington state. But you don't have to try as hard as you on a gsxr 1000
I don't think that law passed. And the law they were pushing was pretty weak. It only applied on divided highways when traffic was going under 10mph and the motorcyclist could do no more than 5 mph over what traffic was doing or something similar. Probably wise to introduce it like that and give people a chance to get used to it before opening it up for other streets.
A big thumbs up for your videos! My wife and I love it. The skill you touch on in this video is a MUST for every bike commuter. The take-off in traffic is one of the key benefits a bike has over a car.
I've been practicing so I can start doing my 4 mile ride to work, but every time I pull up a new video of yours, I realize there's something else I want to practice first. I may not ride to work for a year at this point! But I'm not mad. Thanks for the videos. MSF doesn't even talk about this.
If I may be permitted: At the intersection as you described, you managed to lane-share to the front, BUT you stay in-between the cars until you take off. I personally prefer moving directly in front of a car (either side - does not matter) even though I may be encroaching a little into the intersection, but of course out of the way of traffic still. Pedestrians can walk around me. That way, I "own" the lane and I leave the traffic behind me in the dust on take off (having of course made sure that the intersection is safe to enter and cross after green lights). Why do you prefer instead to remain in-between the cars after lane-sharing to the front?
Sound advice, but in the UK you have to be careful of drivers creeping forward before the lights change, risking running over your foot etc. So your words of wisdom are even more important! Better to have the idiots behind you.
Beginner Rider here I just came back from practicing around my neighborhood. A car behind me tried to overtake me as soon as I left the stop sign because I’m not skilled enough to upshift fast enough from a complete STOP. I ended up turning to another street ahead, and I’m 9/10 certain that I hear shouting from the car as it pass me by. If this was out in the city, I know it could’ve been much worse. This technique is a must know. Practicing on these tomorrow. You came up with the exact scenario I couldn’t find elsewhere, Thank you MotoJitsu
New bike owner first time rider. Need a lot of practice before riding in traffic. Thanks for the tip I’m about to watch all your videos. Great content!!!!
I also want to take off quickly if I split the lane because it just feel courteous, people in the UK seem rather aware and will let you go ahead it you put yourself towards the front, to then move away like a granny is holding them up for no good reason.
We have complete numpties too, get behind the wheel of their Fiesta shoebox and think they're driving an F1 car. Those are the ones to be wary of. You get to recognise the type. Avoid
Love your channel.Been a rider for 30 yrs but not too many miles per year so alot of the time I feel like a newbie.Love all the great info. Some tips come naturally to me +just plain commen sense. Some of your stuff I would have never thought.
Solid tips MoTo. I concur...I treat every car as there is an idiot behind the wheel, on the phone either drunk or on oxy. Because in Cali it’s usually 2 out of those three.
This is exactly why I’ve been watching sooooooooooo many videos I’m not trying to speed but I’m trying to be out . I wanna enjoy my ride and not ever think hey imma die as a brand new rider . I’ve always been aware of bikers but this makes me so much more aware of bikers being that I want to be a biker as well
Over here in Houston, we have a lot of stupid drivers that like to pass red lights all the time. Doing that here will mean bad news for the rider. If you’re in front at the light, you need to look both ways before you take off. I guess all the drivers in your town obey the traffic laws lol. Thanks for the vid dude.
Fast Eddie, I try my best to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but after reading many of your replies I believe that you are just a "SIMPLE ASS" and you sarcasm is full of STUPID !! Ride safe dude!!!!
Yes, but he covered that "once the road is clear". A lot of people calling this poor guy out for trying to help others over for the look left and right, and yes, people in Cali run reds all the time, hence the "once the road is clear", you launch. Common sense is not so common anymore... Riding on the streets for 25 years, riding moto for 45 years. I thought I knew everything, so I decided to test my abilities and hit a racetrack. Thats where I found out how fast I wasnt! Learned more in 1 day at the track than 5 years of weekend riding. Now 56 track days in 3 yrs, the street scares me even more than before. But i know my abilities and my bikes as well, so I am more likely than ever to avoid the idiot moves you do when you "think" you know how to ride.
I've done the same thing for about 26 years brother. I continue to do this BUT, one shinny day in sacramento california, a motorcycle officer a few cars behind me pulled me over for this. I didn't break traction, the speed limit or raise the wheel. I got an "exhibition of speed" ticket. Lucky me.
I don’t even actually ride on the street yet just do dirt bikes, but it’s always so informative to watch your videos and get prepared for when I do start riding street bikes, thanks so much sir.
I mean that’s cool and all, but I’ve been at a light and was ready when the opposite light turned yellow, when my light turned green, I took off fast, got about 6 ft into the intersection and a car ran the red light and missed me by about 3 ft. So yea I’ll probably never do it again lol just my experience with taking off quickly. I’m cool with being patient and waiting 2 seconds before entering the intersection. Like you said “stupid is everywhere”
Trying to be positive, but this is the silliest thing I’ve seen on TH-cam. Bikes 9 times out of 10 will be faster than your average car. There is no need to preload the engine like this, you could easily go just as fast clutching out and giving the bike gas.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun I mean I have a Harley which is slower than most bikes, and I have no problem beating cars out of the gate. Not that I ever try, because there’s no need for that nonsense.
Ive seen plenty of riders who do not prioritize taking off with any sense of urgency. They just causally take off, slowing all the traffic they just split past which 1 is dangerous for reasons eddie stated as well as could piss off everyone behind you who are in 2 ton vehicles which is never a good idea.
Sean Wagner I’ve never “taken off slowly” I keep up with traffic. But it doesn’t mean I have to punch it every time I leave a light. Here it’s illegal to split lanes, so there’s no problem.
Not bad advise, just not perfect.... well it’s not a perfect world. I used to bolt out from red lights, but one day I just felt like taking my time. As I began to move forward a youngster blew the red light at about 70 mph. Never saw him coming never heard him coming and would not be alive today had I moved any quicker. Now days I just sort of blend in with the traffic as we move away from the streetlight. I like your comment about staging your self at the right rear of the car in front of you then once the light turns green and they begin to move forward you can split through them after the intersection. Again not bad advice, but it is a little like playing Russian roulette.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun Thank you for your reply and your point is well taken. You are very knowledgeable and I respect your videos in the information that you provide. I’ve been riding for over 40 years and I think you’ll agree that even if we did everything right there’s going to be some knucklehead trying to take us out. I’m doing one more track day in Carolina next month and I think it will be my last. At 60 years old I just have too much to lose, awesome grandkids and stuff you know🤗
I understand..I try to keep reminding everyone, all my videos are only 30% of what there is to say...I can't make 3 hour videos, no one will watch so I just say big points and ideas and hope people will be motivated to try things out on their own.
Brilliant tip. Whenever I filter / lane split and go to the front at traffic lights I always sort of cut across the car at the front at a bit of an angle so they can't go anywhere even if they wanted to, and then if there's time I make eye contact with them or at least look at them in the mirror. Some might say that some people might not like how you've pushed in and cut them off but it's ok, they can't go anywhere unless they go through you and if you're filtering in traffic you have to be able to judge what's going on because it's always a risk doing it but don't go to the front of your going to be slow and hold the cars up when it's time to go, that's not right.
Exactly...There's so many different situations...this is the basic one and what I do...sometimes I purposely don't lane split for a variety of reasons.
I respect you. I have watched every motorcycle safety video I can find and some are legit and some are a sham. I can tell that you are an experienced rider and your technique makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
I won't quite hit it like you do, but it's great info to have. You've certainly mastered that bike. Lol. Be a bit more careful about getting hit, it could be your life.
No, it's not something for every occasion but it is something to learn. You may need to make a quick decision and need to convert from a normal start to a fast one. So sitting there with the clutch held and the throttle cracked open is perhaps not the best way to do it. But do learn how to do a fast one with full control.
Going to practice this, one new thing I'm missing, so far you've been a great guide to me. 40+ first time rider on a 2013 Multistrada granturismo.. I go to the school yard at least twice in between rides to ad a new skill and get more fluent with what I've learned... Thanks keep doing what you do. Alot of people are paying attention
many ways to do this and many different situations would cause you to do this...like if you have to stop due to a car not stopping behind you, need to be able to go.
This video is 2 years old but its good stuff ive had a sport bike for 3 weeks and the number of ppl that try to race me is incredible...i let them win every time because i dont want that ticket and they probably dont know how to drive and i wanna live...but i never thought to rest on my legs before a launch in traffic...good advice brother semper fi
I've been riding for over 50 years and have taken over 25 different instructional riding courses as well as a several professional racing instruction classes and have over 2 million miles in the saddle. You'll use "your technique" for awhile until you end end up killing yourself because of it.....the best thing you said is, "...I'm not telling you what to do, this is what I do..." NO riding instructor ANYWHERE will ever tell you that what you're doing is o.k. ........wrong as the day is long!!!
I know a lot of instructors who are terrible riders..so to assume all instructors know what they're doing it an argument from authority and it's a crappy argument. Sometimes I do this...and if I do, I go about 20mph....that's it.
Took a course and passed 2 weeks ago, just waiting to do the written test then it’s official M1 license. Subscribed to your channel because as a new rider, I like the advice you give on your videos 👍. You’re absolutely correct about stupid is everywhere especially here in California. Looking forward to more videos from you 😆
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun my friend has two bikes and she wants to get rid of one. She has a 2007 Buell and rarely rode , just weekends with her boyfriend until he passed away and she kept her Buell pretty much in the garage since then 👀. I’m glad I found your vlog 😆.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun, I will be riding the Buell once I get my M1. I’m just waiting on my scheduled local DMV appointment, take the written test, pass, then riding my baby Buell👍
I want to get a bike, and probably will soon, but these tips are so useful even for somebody in a car. Its important to stay out of these dangerous situations even in a car, and more important on a bike. Thanks for being so honest about the dangers and failures of riders to anticipate them.
Cool. That helps but in Canada land splitting is not allowed. By the way, I noticed there is always one guy on a normal vehicle each time when I am on the bike, who will go nuts try to race me and try to win. I know they don't stand a chance but then again I don't want to break any speed posted laws. I value my driver's license.😊 So I slow down.
Do you have any recommendations to get tailgaters to back off? I'm considering using a stick of dynamite or police spike strips for the ones that really piss me off.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun a bit of lung butter first thing in the morning...it does wonders on their windscreen...they usually back off pretty quick haha or (assuming road conditions are safe) just roll the bike from side to side like your warming the tyres, that backs them up a bit too
In my younger days I used an egg to deal with a stubborn tailgater. The tailgater HAS to stop, because windscreen wipers make it worse. I now use hand motions and ride zig-zag in the lane. That usually works.
came back to this vid to say this finally bashed into my thick skull the need to sync your throttle control with your clutch as one smooth movement - especially when starting from stationary! seems so obvious but I just had the best two rides of my first few weeks of riding thanks to this!
awesome explanation. easily the best friction zone video i’ve seen. short and gets straight to the point. hard to stall after seeing this one. just hold keep the revs up and slowly release clutch. that simple. great video brother
I disagree with almost every advise given in this video. If you stop behind a car, dont do it towards the middle of the road as people tend to not see you there. Instead claim your space on the lane and leave plenty space in front of you to escape when needed. And then the revving of the bike.. this is basically saying, i want to race you! Also, taking off this ridiculously fast will some day crash you into a car that thinks its oke to run the first second of a red light, which is see almost daily. So, just take off faster, but not like Rossi in GP.
Dude you just made me more afraid to ride my motorcycle.... Just because lane splitting is legal doesn't mean you should take advantage of it, there is a good and not-so-good time to take advantage of that. I'm not sure I would want to park myself in between two cars at a traffic light and then throttle it once the light turns green as there may be somebody coming from your left or your right cheating the yellow light. You're better off parking behind a car and give yourself Buffer room to escape if a car behind you appears to not be stopping...
@@MotoJitsu i always split lanes (filtering we call it over here-uk)the problem we have is angry divers cutting your space turning towards you and actually trying to knock you off ..... i d prefer to hold my bike with clutch bite and rear brake for safety . Brilliant vids by the way really changed my approach to riding keep em coming
Thank you for this! I'm a new rider (in Canada) and this is exactly what I needed to see. You make it easy to understand, thanks again!! I watch all of your videos and please keep them coming!!
In NYC, I do this a lot. Otherwise, there are obvious problems as you explained. Excellent video. I'm on a 1990 Goldwing and thank God it's smooth and powerful. Once I open the throttle, I can be in the next county. Love your channel. Excellent tips.
Glad to hear it If you have a minute, check out my website MotoJitsu.com. It was the links to my App, books, merchandise, affiliate links, courses I recommend, and so on. Thanks!!
Good video! Talking about not knowing what the cars around you are going to do..... 2 years ago, I stopped at a stop light and while sitting there the left lane (turn lane) light turned green and the lady behind me (in the right lane) decided it was time to go and ran right into me! Bike and I hit the ground, broke a mirror and damaged my rear fender and I got a hell of a bruise on my ankle. You never know is right!
Good morning eddie~Very useful survival infomation. There must be a lot of dumbs in states too. haha.:) I also use this way to decrease any risk of dangerous situation though, ive also experienced dizzy moments by another stupid cars which were still passing fast intersection from my right or left sides couple of times, even though the traffic signal already chanegd to the green. Here are many other types of stupid dumbs in korea. Btw are you ok with yours eye? Sorry to say but u look like a panda :) have a good day~eddie
도시탈출 - No matter how many "dumbs" you have in Korea, the U.S. is the "land of opportunity" so we have MORE, LOL! And as we ALL know, "You can't fix stupid"! "...u look like a panda..." Priceless! 😁
hahah~ yep yep~ i totally agree with you. Have you ever heard Japnanse word "Otaku" ?those who really get into only one thing. we also have this word in Korea." king of the king in otaku world is an American otaku." haha :)
This is why I always wait in line behind traffic - I feel more comfortable and safe doing so but I always stay to the edge of my lane just so I have an escape route like you have shown in the video
I'm here binge watching your videos while I work and I think this this one of the main things that I will need to practice. Adding this one to my playlist as well. Thanks man
I've always said to watch crash videos! It worked for me, before and after purchasing my first and only bike. This guy gives good safety tips. Most I've already heard from taking the MSF course so many years ago🙀
This was super entertaining and awesome. I've been unable to ride my bike because I was 65 miles away from my house on a twisty road 2 saturdays ago when my front break pads decided to completely give out.. Yes I should've checked them before my ride, but they were working fine before my ride so I wasn't worried about it. I somehow got home safely and havent ridden my bike since, and I don't plan to until I install my new quality brake pads, and I also bought quality steel braided brake lines for my front and rear to ensure this doesn't happen again. However I am currently going through some major riding withdrawals while I wait for my new stuff to come in and am doing constant research on improving my riding ability, awareness and overall smarts. I literally cannot wait to fire up my bike, feel the brakes, listen to my exhaust (love the sound of it) and try out everything I'm learning. Perhaps it's good that I'm getting this time away from the bike to learn new things to try out by watching all accessible videos of yours. Thanks
@@MotoJitsu Sorry I was tired when I wrote this. I meant my brake line gave out, because I immediately got low on brake fluid, but I also have hardly any brake pads left as well. When I got home, my dad told me I had pretty much nothing there. I ride a 2006 cbr600 and I cant remember the last time I've changed either of those things out. I just started riding 2 years ago, 17 years old(18 on friday), and I'm still figuring everything out. I apologize for any confusion.
Ride to your own abilities and make sure theres always an escape route should be the positives here. No point in giving people shit over they're opinions on riding styles etc. If it works for them, cool. If it doesnt for you then ignore it. Best thing about all the vids for me is that i take snippets of useful info that may help me and tell the rest of the bullshit to fuck off. Think Bike, Think Biker!
Everything you said is absolutely correct. I can't tell you how many times I'm looking in my mirrors and see some jackpot literally a foot or two behind me at a light. I usually give a good rev with my R1. I've been riding all my life. Though lane splitting is not legal in Texas. I always stop as close and in-between the cars ahead of me at traffic lights. I also prefer to ride in the left lane as people are either turning into or out of side streets and parking lot's. And yes people love running red lights in Texas so make sure it's clear and safe before you go. But go. I live in Houston TX . We made the worse drivers in America three years in a row. So... If traveling through Houston. Be extra cognizant of traffic around you. Shinny side up. Thumbs up for the vid.
Thanks for watching everyone. Check out MotoJitsu.com/shop for my books & new merch :)
I got onto Amazon to buy one of your books. But just double checking, do all your books include photos/illustrations for each of the drills explained? In the preview, there's only 3 pages where there's none of them. I am getting motojitsu master program vol 2 in an e-book by the way. thanks.

"...stupid is everywhere" --- never more wiser words than these. This should be the mantra for all bike riders. Thanks for the video and tips.
AZ Geek You’re welcome!
AZ Geek Not only bike riders, for any riders it should be the word. Stupid is everywhere, we should save ourselves. They can be with bikes, cars, trucks, busses and so on
Exactly!
My old favorite is "drive like you're invisible", got told when learning to drive a car, but I think it's especially important on a bike.
Exactly!
I have an entire playlist for new riders.
oh christ, i had a miserable time getting my new bike home from queens as a new rider. I have a lot to learn
Here is Aus they have us ready with a slight amount of throttle, clutch at friction point and foot on rear break so we can launch
It is my #1 fear to stall at a light with a bunch of cars behind me. It's the reason I haven't left my neighborhood yet.
Thank you soooo much for taking the time and doing it right.
thank you!!!
I guess too many people miss the part where I say ensure the intersection is clear first if you take off. Make sure there isn't an idiot about to blow through the light, obviously. MotoJitsu.com
Nah they just skipped ahead to the bad ass skills👍
Meanwhile me in India
Are you challenging me??
This is why I installed dual flame throwers on my bike. One for each side.
weenermeat Sweet mod!
Haha, dual exhaust on a powerful bike
weenermeat 😂😂👍
get a rear one as well !
Clearwater guys are also developing water jets. And what gets me excited is... even that will be expensive too.

Hey hey!! Glad you came out!! Whenever you want to come practice again, just let me know!
Hes already said hes made sure to check before just taking off. hes not just taking off as soon as it turns green before making sure some idiots running thru a red light to hit him in the intersection or he wouldnt be here teaching us these techniques...stupid is literally everywhere, especially in the youtube comment sections
Lol yup...you're one of the few who noticed I said that.

Started street riding recently, and found myself doing this instinctually. Great to hear your explanation!
:)
Check out MotoJitsu.com for my new app, books, merch, etc. You subscribed yet? Notifications on? Like the video? Get to it slacker!!! :)
Man can't believe I've been doing lots of these stuff instinctively that you explain in details
without realising how much more can be elaborated.

no other way to do it:)
As a new rider, this is exactly what I need. Thank goodness for a long driveway where I can practice this and the white/blue belt stops while still hitting 20mph. Keep up the good work, @motojitsu!
Thanks!
Finally I have an good excuse to power wheelie away at every intersection :)
Hahahaha...if I decide do lane split....and if I decide to take off quickly, I don't go above 25 or so...it's just the initial jump to get ahead of the cars, I don't redline lol
Sorry officer, I had to power-wheelie in case my tire explodes. 😂
Lol, I like this idea
🤣🤣🤣
What size motorcycle you have? If you have a 600 u can clutch up but not power wheelie
An added bonus with this technique is you avoid the "take off wobble" I see this all the time, because the forward momentum makes you more stable.
Thanks again.
you're welcome! :)
Been 20yrs for me too, things have changed a bit!
Great idea - provided you've DOUBLE CHECKED that some car isn't about to run their red light and wipe you out.
Pracctttiicccceee! lol
Yes, you have to be aware of everything.
My goodness... Taking off like that might actually encourage people to race you at the next intersection. I ride daily too (and lanesplit everywhere) but I only try to get a jumpstart to pick a lane, mostly not to annoy people. Annoyed drivers are the most dangerous in my experience.
Michiel Fermie It’s just an example...if people do decide to race, at least I’m far away from them!
yes I agree once you annoy a car warrior they know you are on a bike does nt matter if you re 6 4 235lbs navy seal you loose
Takes only a second to check n move off. You learnt that during learner phase.

Obviously, I said that in the video.
this happen more often at night but regardless I've seen a hand full of cagers and even a few truckers running lights. vigilance and common sense is key
Yes!
Luis Garay "risqué"? That means "indecent and liable to shock, especially by being sexually provocative". Don't you mean "risky"?
But he covered that. He said there were cars stopped @ left & right. Important! These cars block red light runners.
very helpful! Improved a lot the smoothness and agility after preloading the clutch and throtle. Even for slower take offs. Thanks. Fernando - Brazil - Daytona 675r
You're welcome! Cool bike!
I see soooo many people running red lights these days there is no way I'm launching myself into an intersection as soon as the light goes green. I'd rather get swiped by a car going 5 miles an hour than T-boned by a car going 40 . Stupid is everywhere - Best quote everywhere.
Yup
Exactly!
Totaled my bike by doing just this. Super upset about it.
Taking off?
MotoJitsu jumping into an intersection without checking.
Regards.
Alfredo González of course! Must make sure the cars on cross traffic are actually stopped or stopping.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun BTW, nice to know your eye is ok.

I can tell you a truly a nice guy.
thanks!
That’s a great explanation of Lane Splitting too. It isn’t legal here so I have no experience with it. Thank you. This will help when I am riding in California.
J T You’re welcome!
Exactly!! I'm always aware of people and what they may do, I need to escape!
If you ever come to Thailand let me know and I will take you on some cool bike rides.
Heck yes!
Sheesh, got lucky!
You watched that video where the girl rights her bike by hitting the throttle. Amazing.
I do this every single time now away from lights etc, not only has your instruction helped me pass the two tests you have to do in England they have also made me a better rider!
:)
Thank you!
The more I watch these videos the more I fall in love with that bike.
Was fun while I had it :)
7:07 wow wow wow what a take off. As a kid, that's what fascinated me the most about bikes
It's easy you slip the clutch
I always pull up hard to the drivers side in stopped traffic, one day the car coming up from behind rear ended the car in front of me if I wasn't hard over I would have been crushed. But only lately is it law to split traffic in Washington state. But you don't have to try as hard as you on a gsxr 1000
Yup, we all have our own methods.
Thanks!! And hello to the wife! lol
I've been practicing so I can start doing my 4 mile ride to work, but every time I pull up a new video of yours, I realize there's something else I want to practice first. I may not ride to work for a year at this point! But I'm not mad. Thanks for the videos. MSF doesn't even talk about this.
MSF is basic info, much more to learn beyond it. MotoJitsu.com/courses
Most of the time the cars are all the way up to the stop line or cross walk, and it's illegal to have any part of your car in the crosswalk.
Sound advice, but in the UK you have to be careful of drivers creeping forward before the lights change, risking running over your foot etc. So your words of wisdom are even more important! Better to have the idiots behind you.
True that!
"I need to get the hell away from stupid, 'cause stupid is everywhere" hahaha 😂😂 lol

I just came back from practicing around my neighborhood.

Oh yeah? Look both ways before I take off, never thought of that before, why should I do that?

Yup, I do that too...this video is what I do sometimes, if I lane split.
Trying to be positive, but this is the silliest thing I’ve seen on TH-cam.
Bikes 9 times out of 10 will be faster than your average car.
There is no need to preload the engine like this, you could easily go just as fast clutching out and giving the bike gas.
The bike is sure, but the riders aren't unless they practice.
Here it’s illegal to split lanes, so there’s no problem.
not every bike is super bike.....
Again, I make sure it's clear before going...and only if I feel I need to. I would be dead if I blindly took off every green.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
7:06 damn it you made me jump man ahahaha
Carlos Garcia lol!
LoL... if I do that on my bike I will be doing a wheelie
If you go full throttle it may...my bike would too...not full throttle when practicing.
I won't quite hit it like you do, but it's great info to have.
You've certainly mastered that bike. Lol.
Be a bit more careful about getting hit, it could be your life.
No kidding, I imagine everyone's out to kill me and I ride like everyone's drunk.
No, it's not something for every occasion but it is something to learn. You may need to make a quick decision and need to convert from a normal start to a fast one. So sitting there with the clutch held and the throttle cracked open is perhaps not the best way to do it. But do learn how to do a fast one with full control.
And remember, again, when I do this, I only get to 20mph lol
Going to practice this, one new thing I'm missing, so far you've been a great guide to me. 40+ first time rider on a 2013 Multistrada granturismo.. I go to the school yard at least twice in between rides to ad a new skill and get more fluent with what I've learned... Thanks keep doing what you do. Alot of people are paying attention
many ways to do this and many different situations would cause you to do this...like if you have to stop due to a car not stopping behind you, need to be able to go.
This video is 2 years old but its good stuff ive had a sport bike for 3 weeks and the number of ppl that try to race me is incredible...i let them win every time because i dont want that ticket and they probably dont know how to drive and i wanna live...but i never thought to rest on my legs before a launch in traffic...good advice brother semper fi
thanks!
Never be the meat in a car sandwich!
lol exactly!
Go to Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and you'll see people taking off like 5 seconds after the lights turn green 😂😂
They do that here, they cheat the one’s behind them from getting through. I think many are texting on phones.
I've been riding for over 50 years and have taken over 25 different instructional riding courses as well as a several professional racing instruction classes and have over 2 million miles in the saddle. You'll use "your technique" for awhile until you end end up killing yourself because of it.....the best thing you said is, "...I'm not telling you what to do, this is what I do..."
NO riding instructor ANYWHERE will ever tell you that what you're doing is o.k. ........wrong as the day is long!!!
Then don't do it.
I know a lot of instructors who are terrible riders..so to assume all instructors know what they're doing it an argument from authority and it's a crappy argument. Sometimes I do this...and if I do, I go about 20mph....that's it.
zulu just dont lane split. simple lol
2 Million miles? Wow That's unbelievable! 40,000 a year consistently, again WOW!
Exactly!
Took a course and passed 2 weeks ago, just waiting to do the written test then it’s official M1 license. Subscribed to your channel because as a new rider, I like the advice you give on your videos 👍. You’re absolutely correct about stupid is everywhere especially here in California. Looking forward to more videos from you 😆
Awesome Eva! What bike do you have?
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun my friend has two bikes and she wants to get rid of one. She has a 2007 Buell and rarely rode , just weekends with her boyfriend until he passed away and she kept her Buell pretty much in the garage since then 👀. I’m glad I found your vlog 😆.
Ahhhh ok then....so you're riding the Buell?
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun, I will be riding the Buell once I get my M1. I’m just waiting on my scheduled local DMV appointment, take the written test, pass, then riding my baby Buell👍
I want to get a bike, and probably will soon, but these tips are so useful even for somebody in a car. Its important to stay out of these dangerous situations even in a car, and more important on a bike. Thanks for being so honest about the dangers and failures of riders to anticipate them.
Thanks for watching ❤️ MotoJitsu.com for my App, Books, Merch, Discounts, etc. 👍🏼
That’s a nice boonie cover, rah brother
That would be interesting to see, lol..I would either accelerate or slow down and change lanes and let them pass.
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun a bit of lung butter first thing in the morning...it does wonders on their windscreen...they usually back off pretty quick haha or (assuming road conditions are safe) just roll the bike from side to side like your warming the tyres, that backs them up a bit too
de-escalation by letting them pass is definately the way to go. wise words!
Thanks!
In my younger days I used an egg to deal with a stubborn tailgater. The tailgater HAS to stop, because windscreen wipers make it worse. I now use hand motions and ride zig-zag in the lane. That usually works.
Hey here, just make it simple, just full throttle and release the clutch, eazy peezy
Perfect! lol
came back to this vid to say this finally bashed into my thick skull the need to sync your throttle control with your clutch as one smooth movement - especially when starting from stationary! seems so obvious but I just had the best two rides of my first few weeks of riding thanks to this!
awesome explanation. easily the best friction zone video i’ve seen. short and gets straight to the point. hard to stall after seeing this one. just hold keep the revs up and slowly release clutch. that simple. great video brother
Do you have some domestic issues or was that the "closet door"? ;) =P
lol jiujitsu!
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun
Oh, is that what they call it these days...? Lol...just messing...good tip! 👍
When your girl wants your honest opinion about how she looks in that new dress, and you actually give it to her.
"I didn't ask you if you wanted to dance - I said you look fat in those pants"
WHACK!!
lol
lol
I disagree with almost every advise given in this video. If you stop behind a car, dont do it towards the middle of the road as people tend to not see you there. Instead claim your space on the lane and leave plenty space in front of you to escape when needed. And then the revving of the bike.. this is basically saying, i want to race you! Also, taking off this ridiculously fast will some day crash you into a car that thinks its oke to run the first second of a red light, which is see almost daily. So, just take off faster, but not like Rossi in GP.
I never rev the bike...people don't race me, and if I take off, I only go 20mph. If you disagree, then don't do it lol
It's more dangerous to sit behind a car on a bike, look up the Berkley lane splitting study they did.
@@lindseymckirdy1830 Thanks!
Thank you for this!
I'm a new rider (in Canada) and this is exactly what I needed to see. You make it easy to understand, thanks again!!
I watch all of your videos and please keep them coming!!
Thank you so much Tina!!! I really appreciate it!
In NYC, I do this a lot. Otherwise, there are obvious problems as you explained. Excellent video. I'm on a 1990 Goldwing and thank God it's smooth and powerful. Once I open the throttle, I can be in the next county. Love your channel. Excellent tips.
Great video Fast Eddie. It’s true!! A lot of stupid out there. This was some smart info, and helpful! Thanks! Be safe! 🏍😎
Bickerchick4125 Bickerchick4125 Thank you! Please share!
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun will do!! 👍🏻
Awesome!! When you going to practice your fast starts?
Fast Eddie’s Motorcycle Fun soon, I’m looking to get out next weekend, or possibly during the week.
That's the spirit! Let me know your progress! Email me at fasteddiemotojitsu@gmail.com
Stupid is everywhere...love this video.
Glad to hear it
If you have a minute, check out my website MotoJitsu.com. It was the links to my App, books, merchandise, affiliate links, courses I recommend, and so on. Thanks!!
A major heads up on that guy running the yellow.
Really? Never thought of that before..I said that in the video..and if the guy is running the yellow....that means it's still red for me.
@@MotoJitsu Understood. Not trying to be a douche.
I gotta say this was an eye opener. I always stop right behind the car in front of me. Never again! Thanks bro!
You're welcome...use good judgement always.
👌🏼
Good morning eddie~Very useful survival infomation. There must be a lot of dumbs in states too. haha.:) I also use this way to decrease any risk of dangerous situation though, ive also experienced dizzy moments by another stupid cars which were still passing fast intersection from my right or left sides couple of times, even though the traffic signal already chanegd to the green. Here are many other types of stupid dumbs in korea. Btw are you ok with yours eye? Sorry to say but u look like a panda :) have a good day~eddie
도시탈출 Yes, stupid people are everywhere! My eye is good, no pain and vision is fine :)
I have never heard of that, no. What does the second part mean?
That looks like fun, safe or not. lol.
It is!
That's a great point. I feel the same way when I ride I stay away from cars they will win if they hit you.
be able to move! :)
This is why I always wait in line behind traffic - I feel more comfortable and safe doing so but I always stay to the edge of my lane just so I have an escape route like you have shown in the video
Good on ya...watch out behind you Marissa...people don't stop or notice us much.
I went through my practice tests thinking of you man. Didn’t last long haha over nervous and all thought I’d fail! NOW LOOK I PASSED FIRST TIME 💪🏼🏍🔂🌐
nice!
@@MotoJitsu THANKS MAN YOUR A STAR 🌟
This channel is an absolute godsend for new riders like myself, so many techniques to learn, sometimes overwhelming but super informative and helpful
Very informative! I just switched to a real bike with shifting and am having a hell of a time figuring this out. Thank you.
And keep in mind the MSF is like 8th grade...I have a lot of videos well into the PhD level education
@@MotoJitsu it was a great start up! It helped me a bit understand most of the crash videos I was watching at the time🧐
This was super entertaining and awesome. Thanks
Your pads decided to give out? What does that mean?
@@MotoJitsu Sorry I was tired when I wrote this. I meant my brake line gave out, because I immediately got low on brake fluid, but I also have hardly any brake pads left as well. When I got home, my dad told me I had pretty much nothing there. I ride a 2006 cbr600 and I cant remember the last time I've changed either of those things out. I just started riding 2 years ago, 17 years old(18 on friday), and I'm still figuring everything out. I apologize for any confusion.
A great concise video. I have survived 5 decades of riding by assuming that every car that can will try to hit you. Never trust their blinkers.
you're welcome...think how much more you'll learn when you take high level courses motojitsu.com/courses
Exactly!
Exactly right!
Will this practice glaze your clutch plates faster?... Just wondering. I started doing this a year ago after I saw this video. Excellent advice 👍🏼
Depends on how you're doing it and how often...and this is one way to take off fast, certainly not the only way.
Didn’t mention very important part about making sure cars aren’t running the red light from your left or right
