Stallone should've cleaned up Avildsen's workprint of V, recut it, and included it. There's a good movie in there somewhere just from what I've seen on TH-cam.
When I watch rocky I always watch all of them rocky - creed 3 and always dread getting to rocky 5 and am always pleasantly surprised when I watch it. It's easily the worst Rocky movie but it's not bad. I think it says more about how good the rest of the series is
For me Rocky V was the most boring out of the films big disappointment but i liked the end score music by Elton john was the only thing i liked about it
I enjoy 5 quite a bit, and of the original 6 I would actually place it ahead of 2 (2 is dreadfully boring). 5 suffers from some bad acting from Sage and Tommy, but it has some really good stuff in there.
For all its flaws i love Rocky V but its such a shame they cant have remastered featurettes that do exist ! I think a Sly cut would be amazing but likely too painful for him to do one cause of Sage (plus rights issues) A lovely looking 4k I think never the less of a film that got caught between wanting the gritty roots of R1 combined with the cartoonish aspects of the sequels , ending in a Rambo like message where fighting is the answer to sort out your problems. "My Rings Outside"
I have a deep love 3 my first time at the movies 4 my moma dropped me and a life long friend at the mall to see it my passed in 2020 i believe i saw it again at the $1 theater yeah this was a long time ago 😅 i miss the simple days 6:08
thanks for the cool review Heath. I really appreciate it, as I found out not only how good the new discs are but , did you also mention there was a replacement program ? I had purchased the original 4k box last year, and just contacted Warner Brothers about returning the 4k discs , for the updated / corrected versions. I'm psyched. I am not fond of the later films (despite the critical claim of Balboa.) I'm happy with having just the first 4, so going with the replacement program made the most sense, in terms of personal passion, and financially. If I'm totally honest, I'm really a fan of 1-3..... I think the series went off the rails from 4 on. I will say, that I'm very impressed with the new directors cut of 4, and it does improve on the original theatrical version. I saw the first 5 , all in the movie theater from grammar school thru college, when they were released. 1 - 3 remain my favorites. 1 is obviously , the critical smash, but for me, I do enjoy seeing part 2's story of Rocky getting over the hump , and part 3's story of personal redemption. if you were to put a gun to my head, as odd as it is, I might say 3 is my favorite..... I loved it. Rocky feeling he wasn't as good as he thought he was (from what he perceived as wrongly being carried by Mickey), Mickey's death added to Rocky's self doubt and pain, and yet, Apollo showing up to team up and re-coach him...... bring him back to basics for prepping to take on the super aggressive Clubber Lang...... for me, it was just the ultimate redemption story. Rocky IV's death of Apollo was a deal breaker in of itself but the over the top comic book feel and hokey Cold War sentiments were a bridge too far. The best thing tho, is Stallone realizing he had to remove the hokey family moments and have it as a story about 2 old fighters / warriors , dealing with their own professional and personal mortality , and those ramifications, made the story feel stronger and more personal. I'm happy to keep the earlier 4K box and excited about the corrected audio / exchange program ! Again.... thanks for the review and info !
I've so far seen the first 4 of this collection and I must say that for Rocky III and IV, the viewing experience on the blurays is a lot more pleasant. There is, at times and sporadically, an obnoxious amount of film grain present and it really distracts especially since the blurays never have those issues. Rocky II so far is the best transfer as it gives fantastic detail and smoothness with minimal balanced grain especially in the well lit scenes. Not sure why this is an issue in some 4ks but it seems there were different teams working on these transfers for each film and whoever did II knew what they were doing far more than whoever did III and IV. Also, NONE of the films work with my digital code and have written WB about this and theyve responded with telling me that they are working with Fandango At Home to remedy the problem. But it's been almost a week so far with no response and my code still doesn't work at all.
Seriously? The former 4Ks were quite good already, only missing the original 2.0 Dolby Stereo tracks, to make it a perfect set for my taste. The picture transfer was top notch.
What would you recommend for people like me who don’t have 4k who want upgrade the Rocky films to blu ray? Personally I think the Rocky films have always got the shaft on physical media. I’m sure this 4k set is nice to have but I wish we could get a proper box set with blu rays also remastered like the 4k discs themselves
It's disappointing they didn't include the alternate cut of Rocky V which was floating around the internet years ago--I believe it was called the Producer's Cut but may have also been called Director's Cut for simplicity.
I’m going to wait till it really is the ultimate edition of all the films and the extended versions and all the Extras Then I will definitely be buying it 🙂🙂👍🏻👍🏻
Was tempted to get this on digital. But the fact that Rocky Vs Drago is a separate purchase is off putting. Still have the DVD knockout boxset from late 2006 (that’s how long I haven’t seen these films) Hopefully the updated boxset gets a release in the UK
Does the knockout & ultimate knockout have the same discs? They seem to look exactly the same. Some of the Amazon reviews I've seen for Italian version complain there's no improvements.
I was just wondering in the much cheaper 1-4 version are the disks still messed up ❓ Do they have problems ❓ I know you get two more movie's, but the price I saw was pretty high for adding two more movies ❓
I seen a documentary on Stallone editing Rocky 4 for his new directors cut. He watches it and says things like " No, that's gotta go " .. and he snips pieces here and there. HE adds scenes, he spent a lot of time editing it for the director's cut. It was the highest grossing of all the films. There are a couple of Stallone docs on streaming services. I watch anything Sly. Dont kill me but even the new reality show. He admits its cringe and there are cameras etc but its Stallone so I watch it.
I already have the Rocky: Heavyweight Collection, which is really good and it has no issues whatsoever. That's what I'll stick with at the moment. 4K is great and all, but I'm content and happy with the standard Blu-ray release. This collection is way too expensive. $100 is just too much for a collection that I already own at a fraction of the price. Maybe I'll pick this up once the price drops. Thanks, Heath! As always, I appreciate the awesome content! God bless and stay safe!
Rocky 5 is more of a Rocky film than Rocky Balboa - Adrian is there as well as Mickey. Balboa doesnt really add much to the story. But i want to see the workprint or alternate cut with no cheese.
Can anybody confirm if 1-4 are now in Dolby Vision? The previous 4K release of 1-4 that had issues were just HDR10. Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated.
I think the best movie of the lot is rocky balboa , has a surprisingly wide almost Shakespearean arch, and its very, very well directed, but emotionally my fave always will be rocky IV
I'm not trying to throw shade, and sure my "hot take" will get some hate, but with all the controversy over every release, plus the price point on many of these 4k releases, at least within release date, I'm out of 4K, I have a 4k TV sure, but perfectly fine with Blu Ray's and even many DVDs as my final versions of many older Films, there are a few amazing transfers out there, but for me I'm completely content sticking with my Blu Ray's. Like as long as I can see the movie clear enough to understand what's going on, that's fine in my book
Outside of some 70s Italian cinema and some art house films, I love movies cause of the story, not weather or not I can see every individual hair on someone's head, don't hate that these 4ks come out, anything to preserve physical media, but I find all the controversy over every release really tiring, and that's not why I collect physical media, lol
There is nothing ultimate here. Missing special features, cheap packaging, low bit rates. One of the most iconic francises ever and we get this? The creed trilogy got better treatment...
Rocky is the film which convinced me that Bluray and 4K are just too much at times. When I got the restoration on DVD, it was almost too polished. It isn't supposed to look polished. It isn't supposed to have glaring detail. Stallone took advantage of the lack of resolution to give the bruises and injuries some "realism". Now? There is so much that looks glaringly fake. This was evident with my Bluray. So, when I watch it, I throw my DVD in. As far as special features for 5...? Why? It's becoming more and more evident how 50a% of the features contribute little to nothing to enhance the viewing of the film and are used to jack prices up. Now, others can like what they do and throw their money in any direction they like. But I can keep on pretending I need to spend more to get features that do little to nothing for the film. Oftentimes, I can get the same insight off TH-cam for free. Sadly, films are more about collecting than about the film. To be fair, I know Heath doesn't advocate such. However, so many do now, I stopped watching most channels regarding hard media.
I understand what you mean. Some films don’t benefit greatly from 4k. But many other older films do benefit greatly. Tomatoes tomatoes. Watch want you enjoy.

When does bad boys 4 come out on 4k
Im glad i waited it out. Now ill wait even more when the price goes down. Patience is key.
Stallone should've cleaned up Avildsen's workprint of V, recut it, and included it. There's a good movie in there somewhere just from what I've seen on TH-cam.
That would be interesting..
Considering it was a video tape, idk how much it could’ve been improved.
The film we got is fantastic and I'm not kidding.
Since Stallone not directed Rocky V. Dont think they Will let him do anything to that movie.
Yea, but, to me and quite a few others who agree, it’s already a great film.
Rocky V till I die!!
Am I the only one who is fine with Rocky V? It is a fine film. Not great but not a disgrace.
When I watch rocky I always watch all of them rocky - creed 3 and always dread getting to rocky 5 and am always pleasantly surprised when I watch it. It's easily the worst Rocky movie but it's not bad. I think it says more about how good the rest of the series is
I love Rocky 5. Don’t understand all the hate it gets.
For me Rocky V was the most boring out of the films big disappointment but i liked the end score music by Elton john was the only thing i liked about it
I agree.
I enjoy 5 quite a bit, and of the original 6 I would actually place it ahead of 2 (2 is dreadfully boring). 5 suffers from some bad acting from Sage and Tommy, but it has some really good stuff in there.
I would love to see an official release of the Rocky V workprint cut. But I think that's a bit of a pipe dream.
Thank you for this particular video. I have been questioning this for myself.
For all its flaws i love Rocky V but its such a shame they cant have remastered featurettes that do exist !
I think a Sly cut would be amazing but likely too painful for him to do one cause of Sage (plus rights issues)
A lovely looking 4k I think never the less of a film that got caught between wanting the gritty roots of R1 combined with the cartoonish aspects of the sequels , ending in a Rambo like message where fighting is the answer to sort out your problems.
"My Rings Outside"
Still waiting on the envelopes for the replacement discs…..
I don't think they'll do another box set with the Creed films - if anything, they could certainly do a stand-alone Creed box set...
trust me they will. they will do a box set in about 5 years with Rocky-Creed 4 along with Drago spinoff. probly cost $200 but they will do it.
I have a deep love 3 my first time at the movies 4 my moma dropped me and a life long friend at the mall to see it my passed in 2020 i believe i saw it again at the $1 theater yeah this was a long time ago 😅 i miss the simple days 6:08
Th first one is my favorite but all are good except 5 is a weak link. Rocky 4 new cut also has a much improved editing on the the fight and training
thanks for the cool review Heath. I really appreciate it, as I found out not only how good the new discs are but , did you also mention there was a replacement program ? Why is it so hard to include legacy bonus features when those versions are still on the market? :(
I got the 4-pack for cheap, i only wanted Rocky 4 anyway 😎😁
What's the heat with Rocky 5? I thought it was a fine film when I saw it years ago.
I heard a new RAMBO 4K set is coming with new transfers.
Seriously?
The former 4Ks were quite good already, only missing the original 2.0 Dolby Stereo tracks, to make it a perfect set for my taste.
The picture transfer was top notch.
Im glad i waited for the new Ultimate Knockout collection

i will get it once the price comes down to 60 dollars. i have all the other collections .
I saw a recent interview with Sylvester Stallone and he was asked what is his least favorite film he has done, his answer was Rocky V.
Was tempted to get this on digital. But the fact that Rocky Vs Drago is a separate purchase is off putting. Still have the DVD knockout boxset from late 2006 (that’s how long I haven’t seen these films) Hopefully the updated boxset gets a release in the UK
I have just brought them from Italy, as it was the cheapest. They’re always on the Tv, as ITV4 have just been showing them.
Plus is there no audio issues on Rocky II & III?
Does the knockout & ultimate knockout have the same discs? They seem to look exactly the same. Some of the Amazon reviews I've seen for Italian version complain there's no improvements.
Also, is anyone having issue with Rocky 5 and Rocky Balboa digital copy. Mine is not working
I believe I read that WB has not provided those to online retailers yet. They’re late turning them over.
Heath is correct. Maybe another week before we can redeem the set.
Will Rocky 4 Director's cut ever come to Blu Ray?
I was just wondering in the much cheaper 1-4 version are the disks still messed up ❓ Do they have problems ❓ I know you get two more movie's, but the price I saw was pretty high for adding two more movies ❓

Thats a different set - and with Creed 3 .. theres no Rocky linking

Enjoyed!

I don't think Creed will be added to Rocky boxset. Probably it will have its own trilogy set.
If they don’t include Blu-ray’s then I’ll wait until the box is 60 bucks.
Did you watch the video here???
Is it the same as the individual versions?
Can anybody confirm if 1-4 are now in Dolby Vision? The previous 4K release of 1-4 that had issues were just HDR10. Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated.
Does the bonus disc only cover the making of Rocky v Drago?
No, it covers all four movies.
I think the best movie of the lot is rocky balboa , has a surprisingly wide almost Shakespearean arch, and its very, very well directed, but emotionally my fave always will be rocky IV
Balboa was under rated

I think all the Rocky movies stink
Shame you wasted your time watching a review of something you don’t like.
Me too, especially the first one. Rocky 1 one really sucks! 👊
You A Hater so why you even on here?? You got 1-4 to pick and you gotta like one. If you don't like I said you just a hater..
