Dear Professor hope you will be enjoying good health and spirit. In fact this is a valuable video series regarding the Migration Management Sciences, you are contributing a lot in the body of knowledge. Department
Dear Melissa, thank you for posting this video, very helpful. However, I am confused about the definition of asylum seeker that you briefly touched on. The definition of asylum seekers matched the situation of refugees, as they are outside their countries of origin and seeking protection. Whether they are granted a stay or not, is a matter of procedure and it should not reduce refugeehood.
5:03 Excuse me, if they tend to move to closer points to their homeland then how does it come that for example ppl from Afganistan, asylum seekers tend to move to west? They have quite a lot to go in order to arrive at their wanted destinations which may be probably in Germany?
There can be different reasons for that, for example a particular openness to asylum seekers in specific countries like Germany, but also other factors are at play, for example friends, family, or other contacts that already reside in Germany and that people want to reunite with.
Thank you for reaching out. I understand the challenges of the asylum process; however, this channel is unable to assist with asylum applications as it has no affiliation with the relevant UN bodies or legal aid organizations. I encourage you to seek support from organizations such as the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) or local legal aid services.
Thank you for providing useful information once more. However, I would like to add several points and possibly see what you think about them. First of all, when saying that we are seeing the highest number of refugees since WW II, that is, to my knowledge, in absolute numbers, not relative to the world population. Is that correct? Second, I should like to add that OECD-countries generally take economic profit from refugees, integrating them into their labour market, which is far less certain in coutries like Kenya with its gigantic camps. On OECD coutries, a recent - not so recent - study has shown the beneficia effect of large numbers of refugees on the economy and tax balance. see here: advances.sciencemag.org/content/4/6/eaaq0883 and for an interview with the research director, here: news.cnrs.fr/articles/the-beneficial-effect-of-migration-on-the-economy
