Jim's guitar partner at all his concerts, Maury Muelheisen, who was also killed in the crash bought his Mom a house in Pennington, NJ where I worked with the money he earned while playing with Jim. I went to visit her one day around 2008 to give her a photo of Jim and Maury that was taken at the last concert they played before the crash happened later that day. She was happy that I came to pay my respects and all that and she brought me into the house. All of Maury's Gold Records were on 1 Wall in the family room. One of the things I asked her was how did she find out what happened. She told me one of her neighbors called her up on the phone to say how sorry they were as they just heard it on the news. NOBODY called his family...not the Police, Not Jims Management. I couldnt believe THATS how she heard that her son and Jim had died. I wonder how Ingrid found out about it. I spent a couple of hours with her and I couldnt believe how much she remembered about those days of Jim and Maury in the early 70's. She was 92 or 93 at the time and her brain and memory were sharper than mine and I was half her age at the time. Anyway just thought I would share that wonderful day I spent with Maury's mom with the rest of you.
I was saddened when I heard the news of the crash. I knew Maury was from the Trenton NJ area but had no idea his Mother lived in Pennington. I drive through there daily. We live near there in Titusville. Such great, great music, it will never die.

Maury was a FINE guitarist.
Maury was awesome. He really knitted himself in the songs and gave them their signature sound. Especially on "Operator."

In 75, I worked out of Natchitoches , on a seismograph crew , we rode out to the crash site on a full moon night . It was only a short time after and you could see the trees they had clipped after the pilot had a heart attack. It was strangely quiet and a very odd feeling to be in that area knowing Jim had died there .
What speaks to the integrity of Jim is the fact that the Louisiana concert had been booked when he was lesser known and the school had gotten him cheap , as at the time of the concert , he was red hot as his songs were climbing the charts . I dare say his agent tried to talk him out of it due to the prices his concerts were now getting , but Jim told him he had signed the contract and his word and bond were sacred to him and so he came to play his last concert at a small JUCO in Louisiana.
Those who saw him , had incredible respect for him and said Jim had a great time and said it was one of the best concerts they had ever seen , " he was the real deal."
The NTSB did NOT find the pilot suffered a heart attack during the flight. I don't know how that rumor started .. He did have coronary artery disease, and had indeed suffered a heart attack a few months earlier .. His physical condition was probably compromised at the start of the flight b/c of same, as well as the fact that he had run three miles to get to the airport .. (i.e. acute angina episode) ..
I was a newlywed, driving to work on a beautiful September morning. The DJ said that Jim Croce had died in a plane crash. Tears began streaming down my face as I thought of his wife and his little boy! What music have we missed. I still have all my vinyl!!! Still love this man!! TY SO MUCH Jordan!!!
Many years ago I was returning from San Diego on a flight to CT and I sat next to a very articulate elder woman. We soon started chatting and she turned out to be Jims Mom She shared so many wonderful stories about his life. It was a wonderful experience that I will always cherish.
Jordan, you show so much compassion in the vlogs about people who have passed away. The Mansfield Civil War museum was very good and had a lot of detail. Thanks for all you do.
Jim Croce was on the cusp of superstardom following his string of hit songs. Glad you remembered and paid tribute to him. That museum had some impressive artifacts for such a small facility and given when the battle took place.

Oh Jordan, you have done great with this vlog! You are telling us a story and paying homage to none other than the late great himself Jim Croce. He and John Denver are my absolute favorites singers & songwriters of all time. The story of his untimely death brings pain to my heart. Here he was, a man loved by all of those who met him, he was good friends with actor Cheech Marin. He was and still is loved by all of his fans. A very talented and good human being, that had a terrible meeting with fate. Songs like, "Time in a bottle", my momma's favorite, These dreams, Lover's cross, I'll have to say I love you in a song, Operator, Alabama rain, Age are few of my favorites from this amazing singer songwriter who was taken far too young from us. He may be gone, but his music and legacy will continue on. RIP Jim Croce & thank you Jordan for this great vlog! Kiss Jah for me, ok! ☝🙏🏼

Our high school closed down and we went to the auditorium and watched videos of Jim Croce talk in interviews and play songs on small sets. I'll never forget that day. "There never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do, once you find them." 😪 I have a photo of me and my loved one, who was killed in Iraq, in a wooden frame that has some of the words to Jim's song "Time In A Bottle" painted on there with a scene of waves crashing on the beach with a message in a bottle. It says, If I could save time in a bottle. . . The first thing that I'd like to do, is to save every day till eternity passes away. . . just to spend them with you.

Jim Croche, most of us remembered that sad day, I was young at the time but he was a favorite still have his original album. Thanks Jordan mentioning Rocky Erickson, most people don't remember him but I was a big fan . His story was so sad I'm so happy his fans got him out of there. You got to see him that's so kool . Jordan my parents were at that last concert that Jim Croce played. They both attended N.S.U. just like me and my wife did. They loved his music as I do now for many years. Natchitoches (we pronounce it as: Nack-o-tish) is my hometown. Thank you for visiting it and doing videos about Jim Croce, and the Steel Magnolias filming locations!
Jim and Maury were truly amazing. It makes my chest hurt when I think that they could still be here today.
Everytime I play Jim or Maury's work - I am always amazed at how well they were able to do what they did... I am forever grateful for the first time I ever heard them play, and I promise to play their work until the day I die.

You ever notice all the Musicians that died young were all greats? Croce, Jim Morrison ,Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Bopper, Hendrix, the list gos on. Its almost like they werent meant to live long. They were here to inspire other Singers and Song Writers. Great Video!!

Yes, that is what I can remember reading at the time, that the pilot suffered a medical emergency. He reportedly suffered from coronary artery disease, was overweight, and was forced to run nearly a mile from the motel to the airport, as he had been unable to get a ride. He was said to have been an expert pilot with much skill and several years flying experience, who would not have made such an error otherwise.
The NTSB reports state thar he ran almost three miles, exacerbating his physical state
horribly further.

Jim Croce was so talented. He was gone way too soon. Another one that was gone too soon was Harry Chapin. They were from the same era. I loved both of those guys.
I was in the twelfth grade at Morrow Senior High in Morrow, Georgia, when I heard of Jim Croce's death & as a high school student, this news was just devastating. I loved his music & was so sad that he had died at such a young age & just as his career was taking off. Thanks Jordan for taking of your time & sharing this incredible story of not only Jim Croce, but also Mansfield Battlefield. May Jim Croce rest in peace, along with all those who were killed in battle.

Aww Thank you Jordan for doing this vlog about a man that was sooo TALENTED an BRILLIANT..loved all his songs ...I was about 13 or 14 when this plane crash happened ....an I'm from Louisiana...my uncle had the property where Jim Croce plane crashed ....an got the plane ..an it was so balled up it fit on the back of a semi truck with a flat bed ....but my cousin told me some very horrible things about the crash ..they cleaned up some of the debris ...she found 2 shirts she wanted to believe they were Jim Croce's shirts ...she gave one to me....I wish I still had it....I was in the 7th grade when all this happened. .it's something you never forget!! ❤️❤️
Very interesting Jordan. I urge those who have not visited Jim's son, Adrian James "AJ" Croce, website to do so. Looks so much like his Dad and so talented. AJ at the age of 4years was beat by his Mom's boyfriend and lost his vision. He did regain his eyesight in one eye at age 10. So sad.

I remember this like it was yesterday. Everytime musicians die in a plane crash I think of an old guy I know in Macon, Ga. He's 99 years old and the only surviving member of Patsy Cline's band. Look up his story, PBS did a video on him years ago. If you saw the movie or know he story, he's the guy she told to go be with his family and not get on the plane, that had this one... RIP. I miss Jim and Maury's music, other musicians miss the good heart he had.
Have you heard Waylon Jennings story how he gave up his seat to the big bopper.that plane crash that killed buddy Holley,Richey Valens & the big bopper.the last thing Waylon said to Buddy . I hope your plane crashes.after Buddy said I hope your bus freezes.Waylon blamed himself for the crash.he even had a song about it.called don’t ask me who I gave my seat to or something along those lines.
I remember Jim won a Grammy award and his wife excepted it for him after his death I remember how sad that was!
Wonderful video and tribute to Jim Croce. I live about 90 miles away from Natchitoches. I was 8 when Jim died. I was at my older sister's house. We were in the kitchen, listening to the radio and she was making Macaroni and Cheese with shells instead of noodles. The DJ came on an announced Jim's death. I was already a huge fan as a little boy. I'll never forget that moment. To this day, nearly half a century later, I don't care for Macaroni made with shells. It just makes me sad. I'm still a huge fan of Jim. Never leave the house with out his entire catalog in an iPod. The pine trees really do line the winding roads around here.
To me that man was magical at making beautiful music . When I was much younger back in about 1975 my friend and I bought each other an album, he wanted the American Graffiti album and I wanted Jim Croce’s album. His music is everlasting and can truly touch your heart and soul.
Great video, Jordan. Jim Croce was one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters. I can't think of Jim without also remembering Maury Muelheisen, who was in my homeroom at Cathedral High School in Trenton, NJ in '63 - '64. He was a super nice, friendly guy with all who knew him. Glad I had the chance to meet him.

I still remember the shock I felt when I heard about Jim’s death. It affected me for a long time. He will always be my favorite singer songwriter. I still light a candle for him, and all on board the plane every September 20th.🥺👍 I learned to play guitar from him albums.

I never realized how little I knew about his death. I was quite young, but I clearly remember learning he had died in a plane crash, but any further details I never knew. Even very young I loved his music. Still do. Thank you, Jordan. He was an amazing talent who was gone much too soon. After John Denver passed my dad said he wondered about all the songs that would now never be written. The same can be said about Jim Croce. Very sad.

I lived at the small airport in Cottage Grove Oregon where I lost my two big brothers in a plane crash at the end of the runway on August 21, 1973. Your video brought back sad memories of that but even so, I cherish the memories of growing up living at an airport. Not the usual childhood. My father was a pilot and flight instructor. So tragic. Very sorry for you and your families loss. I am the baby of five, three older brothers. I remember exactly the moment I heard the awful news. Chicago is our home, in 73 I was 10 years old. The 7 of us were on a two week (Brady Bunch) west coast vacation. That day was DisneyLand. I was in the front seat between mom and dad. My dad does not like any music other than classical or opera. Our rented car only had AM radio. He was PO'ed and grumpy because he had to listen to AM top 40. I was in a happy place. They played Bad Bad Leroy Brown, then they announced the news of his death. My heart instantly hurt and tears welled.I was about to share how I felt, when Dad made a callous comment "No Big Loss" type of quip. I was so ashamed and angry because his lack of empathy based only on how he felt about my music was wrong and selfish. I held back my tears and my feelings. I never again let his opinions faze me. I adored my father, but that moment I realized he was not perfect. Did your father teach you to fly? Sounds like you had a wonderful childhood. Thanks for sharing your story and your loss. How old were you in 73?

I'm 45 now going to be 46 in May first week the 6 it was my dad favorite singer he pass away last year in June 8 2021 my dad was 83 years old. He had Parkinson desase and low blood pressure and heart desase. This is great doing Jim he's a Philly guy like hall and oats and Todd that sing "Hello it's Me". I grew up in the 70's with jim's music. I wish we could have hooked up Jordan while you was in natchitoches. I know where the crash site is supposedly although there isn't a marker. Great video and neat seeing places I see regularly on video. Hope you got a meat pie at the french market by the interstate. I just wanted to add that he was playing a make up concert at northwestern. The original one got cancelled and he promised to do the concert another date which is the day he died. Man I wish he could have been with us longer.

Thank you for not passing these locations by. Never knew what had happened to Jim Croe. Still remember some of the words of a few of his songs. That little airport is very different from the typical airports. Seeing the swords , etc, from the civil war almost in person, reminds us just how real the war was and not just stories in books. Learned a lot . Never know what will happen in a day. Everyday that God gives us to live another day, we need to thank Him every morning remembering not everyone lives to see another day. I moved to Florida in 2004. My first job I had was delivering medical supplies to out patients. One of my regular stops was a women named Evelyn DiBartolo who was Jim's aunt. She mentioned that she was Jim"s relative. She had all Jim's gold records on her living room wall. I told her how much I liked his music and even though it was over 31 years ago at that time that he had passed I expressed my condolences. If I'm not mistaken Jim was originally from Philadelphia. R.I.P. Jim.

I remember I was on the school bus when we found out Jim & his people had crashed & passed away. Even my parents loved the records. Thank you Jordan , to think his son can still hear his father’s voice. It was a very sad time that his wife & son were left alone .
Jim Croce was another that was gone to soon. Along with the other's on that plane. The list just continues to grow , sadly and painfully. I'm grateful that you took the time to show the airport, very small indeed. And that you took the time to explain what happened to such a young Talented man. The History of the War wad truly sad but interesting. I just don't understand why we must fight to the death over ground that will never really belong to us. Love your channel. There's a documentary done by one of the giants of the documentary industry, can't remember if it was a "Behind the music" documentary, but it covered the long road to get paid for Jim Croce's music finally to Jim's wife. He was being screwed by the record label. It took years after his death for his wife to receive money. Imagine he's making millions for the record label and he and his wife were struggling just to pay the electric bill!!!

I used to work at the airport in Nashville. It's happened before where a pilot has a heart attack while taking off. It might be more common than we think. That's one of the reasons theres two pilots in the cockpit .
Thanks, Jordan, for another great episode. This one wound through a number of historical sites causing us to think about how short life can be and perhaps giving us a little push to be more grateful. Remembering those entertainers and others whose talents continue to give us such enjoyment is easy in today's world, what with TH-cam and other sites. Luckily we can dial up one of Jim's songs whenever the mood strikes. His words give us an insight into his character and love of life. TIME IN A BOTTLE is my favorite song he wrote. I remember listening to him when I was a teenager. Some of my best memories have Jim Croce's music on the radio in the background.
I'm in England and I only know Time In A Bottle, it's a beautiful melancholy song and Jim sang it with such tenderness that it made the song a hit all over the world. I never knew he had died and under such tragic circumstances. So devastating for his young family to have been left this way, I hope they have had beautiful and happy lives. Rest In Peace Jim.

Thank you for stopping and showing the battlefield relics, they are very interesting, Historical, to say the least. If I might add, when I heard about Jim Croce's passing, I was on a flight from Flint, Michigan to Las Vegas, Nevada, where I spent better than 35 years before moving back to Flint, where I now reside. I've always loved Jim's style and all his music. I was really saddened upon hearing about his demise, but we will always remember him in our hearts. Thank you, Jordan, for sharing this video and memories of Jim Croce with all of us. RIP Jim Croce, God Bless. BTW, Jordan, I have one more thing to say and that's when you say "Good Bye", that is so final, my Sisters and I always said, "we'll talk again", 'see ya later'. Jordan thank you so much for this vlog ❤...Jim Croce came out on the radio during my first year in college...when I heard his first song I was an automatic fan...I had all of his 8-tracks and a couple of albums
..one was with him and his wife Ingrid together...I had just started my 3rd year of college when the crash happened...his music 🎶 was down to earth music...I went by the crash site and airport on my way to New Orleans in 2010...he was the reason I learned guitar 🎸 ...my first of 6 guitars I now own was a Ovation Balladeer...but I think one thing about your video was mistaken...his next show was at Austin College in Sherman/Dennison area of north Texas...it's believed the pilot had the heart attack because he was overweight and had run a distance from a nearby motel to the airport about a mile or so distance ...why I don't know (the pilot is buried at a cemetery in N. Dallas)...Jim Croce also did that show as freebie...it was a make-up show from a previously scheduled show at NWS college he had to miss...about two or three dates after the Natchitoches shows he was to scheduled to play at my Alma Mater...Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Tex...his death affected me more than the loss of any other entertainer or actor...P.S. after all of these years I'm still trying to learn how to play "Operator"...I bought the Jim Croce entire works songbook in 1975 when I bought my Ovation guitar...and since then I've replaced the first book with a 2nd...the first one was wore out!!!😂
He was also suppose to host the MIDNIGHT SPECIAL about a week after the Crash. I saw some Unused tickets for the show on EBAY...they went for HUNDREDS of dollars.

A great singer-songwriter. And Maury was the tops, an EXCELLENT guitarist. He had that 3rds/6ths thing really down. The restaurant is excellent and Jim and Ingrid's son is a really fine performer in the Jim style.
What a cool vlog,! Loved the 13th elevator remember them well. So sad about Jim Croce what a talented musician. I always like to learn about the southern part of the war, coming from Connecticut of course we learned more about the north. By the way the man who invented the saw for cutting off limbs, kinda gory, was from Willimantic where I grew up. Thanks for an interesting vlog😎
