A very crude display compared to some other videos but that was honestly the best explanation I have ever seen. So helpful.! Thank you for this!

I disagree on the crudeness, I've seen worse, however I do agree on best explanation ever!

Man thank you so much! Trying to understand input and output in pots was driving me crazy! My HSS wiring is sending the tone wipe to the volume wipe through a cap, i think its wrong even tho the wiring was send by my guitar manufacturer!

@Boodysaspie the tone is ton working or its working slightly, also the volume pot doesnt work, it just goes 0-100, i am gonna fully rewire it to something that makes sense...

Thanks for the great breakdown!!....one question....is there a difference between leg 1 and leg three? Or is it up to us to decide which will be used as hot and which as ground? thanks!

Thank you so much for this. I just recently acquired a CF Martin Stinger and an 1982 Aria Pro II Classic MIJ. Both need new pots so this helps me a lot as right now the wiring in my CF Martin is all balled up.

Its so helpful that you dont bring all that unconscious knowledge that techies bring and assume you know.

There's a Sweatwater page that says you can use a volume pot for tone and all that's needed is a capacitor.. They don't explain it further or have a diagram. Do you know how to do this and can you provide info? Thanks.

so say i have something with a strat bridge claw and the bridge pickup isnt turning down, it works, the tone knob works too but the volume pot does not. would i ground the bridge claw to Lug 3?

What would be the difference between 250k and 500k potentiometers?

    • @ForTiorIJohnny
      @ForTiorIJohnny  ปีที่แล้ว +2

250k dulls the hi end of the pickup more and is better suited for single coils so they don´t sound too harsh. 500k dulls it much less and is better suited for humbuckers since they don´t have as much hi end to begin with.

Cannot believe it only took 5 minutes for me to fix the issue I was having
I never registered the fact that lugs 1 and 3 had to do with the wiper and lug 2 was the output
I was able to fix the problem I had with ease
    thank you

hello, mine stopped working and i tried to fix it but failed, i dont know how to do it, seems really difficult for me, there are 3 wires coming from each pickup (red, black, green) and a yellow cable that goes to the plug; to make it simpler, could i connect those directly to the plug without the tone and volume knots and it would work? thanks a lot

    Hi Mate,
Thank you for your video, I want to ask I am working on a project to have two pick up on my acoustic guitar, neck and piezo. I want to have stereo and mono out put on my guitar. Say I have stereo out put jack i solder two hot to hot stereo and ground to ground on out put stereo jack. If I split the pick up hot and ground and combine both and solder to mono hot tip and same split ground from pick up, join them and solder them to ground of mono out put jack. Will that help to have stereo and mono signal where on stereo I can control each pick up individually and in mono both pick up will be together.
    Please help and advise

Nice vid. Question: Got a new Les Paul copy. Plays, sounds great, but, volume pots don't turn all the way off. Grounding issue? If so, how do I fix that. Thx!

  • @eknight101

Do the value of the pots all have to be the same? I.E. on a standard VVT jazz bass, If I wanted to use 500k or 1meg pots, do all three pots have to be 500k or 1meg respectfully or can I mix up the values? Currently, I'm about to wire a jazz bass with 1meg in both volumes and a 500k for the tone. Will that work? thanks

Thank you! You helped me solve the problem of why my volume wasn’t going to mute. I didn’t have my lug on the volume pot grounded. Once you showed me how the volume pot was supposed to work I made the small change and boom! My pickups sound like a dream and volume goes mute!

I'm installing a Seymour Duncan Invader, and the diagram says to solder a
ground wire together with two others, is a video available showing how
    to do that?

Great video man. Thanks a lot.
Can you explain please the difference in resistances in each pot? Like why some of them have higher resistance and some have lower? How does that affect the tone or the quality of the sound? Also why some people use capacitors of different sizes in the circuit?
It's just so interesting how everything works and how different components have different affects on the sound.
I'd love to understand more how these things work so I can achieve my ideal sound I'm looking for.
Thanks a lot man. Apologies for the many questions :)
