Is it time for a Comparison/Shootout of the MLA's and their variants? Active Loop Antenna MLA-30 Variants Active Loop Antenna Y-200A Active Loop Antenna MLA-30 plus Active Loop Antenna 2020 K-180WLA Active Loop Antenna SLP-30
Thanks for this comparison. I have the 30+ setup indoors in my attic, and I think it works pretty well. Seems to do better than the long wire I have strung up (in the attic as well). Looking for any easy tweaks to make it even better. Is it possible to replace the bias-tee box altogether with a less noisy one?
My MLA-30 (I.e., not plus) has a green light as well) and has very good reception. I wish lol have to try the higher frequencies on shortwave in order to test the reception. Medium wave has very good reception however, so maybe these were manufactured without the + indicator on them.
Great vid. Subbed! What cable do I need to go from the MLA 30 amp to a 3.5mm input? I have an Eton Excutive Elite receiver. I can find anything online. Also, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be mono or stereo? Thanks.
Thanks for the video! I bought an mla30+ but i notice no difference when the power to it is on or off. Should you see a signal increase when turning power on? Or is it normal there is no difference? Thanks!
there should be a big increase, make sure the power is correctly applied to the Bias T and that the wire going to the antenna is not damaged as it powers the amplifier in the box of the loop.
@@OfficialSWLchannel Thank you very much for the answer! Today I tried it on my old sony 7600 and it works perfectly on that radio. On my icom ic 705 it makes no difference at all if the power is on or off. Strange!
hooked up MLA 30+. Radio was on, connected to the loop. Had the bias tee in hand and plugged into a wall USB, That Bright Green Led + Sound hit me. Thought I had been A simulate!!!
Until everyone sells out of the mla-30, sellers won’t be advertising the mla-30+ because nobody will want to buy the old ones now that they know there’s a difference. :)
You are right! The description on Amazon does not have + in it anywhere but the pictures show 30+. I ordered one for my RSPdx and Tecsun PL-330. I am curious why the PL-330 MW doesn't connect to the external antenna??? Just the internal antenna only.
I wonder if the internals of the MLA-30 and MLA-30+ are the same but merely the gain setting is tweaked a bit to increase the signal receiving sensitivity at the 15,100 KHz (19 meter) as you had shown in your MLA-30 & MLA-30+ comparison vid? As you have stated, this might make for a good vid with you opening both versions for inspection & demonstration. TH-cam poster kurama10goo has kindly detailed how to adjust the gain adjustment here: th-cam.com/video/f7XhuN27daU/w-d-xo.html
I AM A BIT CONFUSED by the voltage differences listed on the two white boxes. The smaller box reads 5 volts at the USB input and the loop attachment box reads 12 volts and there is no input! My QUESTION is: Do I have to somehow make two different connections to the antenna system or do I just slam 12 volts into the 5 volt USB port on the small white box? Thanks and take care
I'm so confused and heartbroken. I bought one that says "MLA-30+ Plus", it has a much larger loop and it says lower range is 0.1Mhz which doesnt match anyone elses. I have no idea what I got and I feel ripped off.
@@OfficialSWLchannel Not the one I got, mate. I got sent something real weird... there's only one review for this one. I think it's some kind of knockoff but there are subtle differences. The loop is almost 2x as big, it's al branded "MLA-30+" but instead of being 0.5Mhz-30Mhz like the plus, it's listed as 0.1-3. I think this vendor took an old MLA-30 (non-plus), printed a new label, and gave it a bigger steel loop.
@@OfficialSWLchannel And yeah I know the MLA-30 and MLA-30+ have the same size loop, I've had both. But this new one I ordered is wonky. China bites again.
Do you think they added a small bandstop filter to weed out 1-5khz range? Would that do enough to help lower the noise floor? Thank you for all your help, Gilles!!
I have an MLA-30 with a green LED. I bought it about a year ago, or so. I now have an MLA-30+ as well.
Is there much difference between the MLA-30+, the K-180WLA and the AMLA150 ?

I already have a K180WLA review on the channel.

I also have the MLA 30 (not the plus) and it has a green LED.
Yes my non plus has a green LED as well

I'm curious if OfficialSWLchannel want to make a video with the comparison between de AN-48X and the MLA-30+.
I have tested both and have videos on the channel ...MLA 30 is better

it does , there is a hidden feature key press that enables PL-330 to connect MW to external antenna
@@OfficialSWLchannel Studying the manual for a second time. Thanks for pointing that out!
@@OfficialSWLchannel I looked in the manual and can't find this hidden feature. It is hidden (from the manual) feature I guess.
the manual does not have the hidden features... here they are

Have you ever tried the MLA-30 mounted for a horizontal polarisation?
Great explanation, now I can order my MLA30+ , also I will subscribe. Thanks.

Don't slam 12v into 5v port! There's an internal voltage booster inside the BiasT to generate 12v from 5v input for the loop.

Can you swap the new bias-t on the old mla-30? , i think they only changed the bias-t circuit

I just received my MLA 30 and it was an MLA 30+.
Hello. Maybe you bought it from AliExpress?
What are the connectors on the jumper that goes to the SW receiver? SMA?
Good stuff thank you for this!!
Both of my MLA 30 boxes I have are green LED lights
Anyone sell a superior bias tee?
Wondering the same thing
I have a blue LED
